One of my dreams, achieved.  FINALLY, after three painstakingly long days...and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of screams, yells, continues, burrito-deaths, GHOSTS 'N GOBLINS is defeated!!  Yes, I finally did it.  This was by far the most frustrating game that I have ever played.  I don't think any Nintendo game, or any game for that matter, will ever annoy/frustrate me more than this game has.  I seriously don't know how a 12-13 year old kid could have played this game for more than three hours without giving up, back in 1986.  Bottom line, this game is just the WORST...or the best at pissing me off.

The game is no longer.  It has been destroyed, and rightfully so by me.  Why?  Because it was beaten...and I wouldn't want anyone to accidentally go through what I have...in the past 72 hours.  Finally, the game is retired.  I never would have thought it would have been me to retire it.  About a year ago...after wasting a day getting to the end guys of Level 6, and beating them with a dagger...I found out I didn't use the correct weapon.  What happened?  I was forced back to Level 3.  At that point, I never wanted to play again...especially after reading up on the game.  What does one person have to do, to beat this game?  He has to go through the game twice...and beat the end guys with a freakin' flying shield.  So the game laid dormant for a year until two days ago, when I woke up feeling the need for a little Ghosts 'N Goblins.  That feeling turned into a personal vendetta.

Anyways, the game has been beaten.  Enjoy my personal video...

That was beautiful.  That game really is horrible, except for the engrish at the end, which is a treat to read.
I'm just happy to see something destroyed.  My 2nd player controller found that out last year after I lost the Super Bowl on Tecmo Super Bowl (best rage game).  My roommate absolutely sucks, and he beat me (Eagles) with the Bills by 1 stinking point.  I averaged beating him with the Patriots by 40 points or more, and this loss was due to contoller #2 having the last of its major malfunctions.  To sum it up, the directional pad was not working (I got 5 safties on myself) and the A button would jam.  This is unacceptable and means for termination.
So when the game ended, I picked up the controller and tore it in half with my bare hands.  It was more than satisfying to teach that monster a lesson.
So once again, cheers.

The video did turn out quite well, perhaps we should finally make videos of the last two tourneys, eh?

Now the pressure is on me to beat Battletoads, quite possibly the only game on the NES that's more diffucult that Ghosts n. Goblins.  Dah Nah!

PS - Lips spent his final night playing only one level, and it lasted for about 4 hours.  At first it was fun to watch him die all the time, but by hour 3 his screams were getting louder and I was getting scared.  I'm just glad it's over...

I know the pain you feel. For some reason, I bought Ghosts and Goblins when it came out.  It didn't take long before I gave up on it because it truly was impossible.
How long in game hours did it take to win?

Thanks guys.  To answer your question vgp100, an un-godly amount of time: about 18.5 hours.  Man...that's almost as much time as it took me to beat Dragon Warrior, back in the day.

I'm glad you destroyed the game. Nobody should go through that again. Ever.

And I actually took down Dragon Warrior awhile back, it was quite fun.  Save games aren't nearly as frustrating because you can take a few days off and not worry.  With GandG, Lips had to keep the game paused in our family room whenever he stopped.  You don't want to let that sit too long because it will lock up on you...

Another terrible part about GandG was that whenever you died, the title screen put the option to continue at the very bottom.  One quick press of the start button and it would all start over, you needed to select twice and start.  Very very stupid....

Yeah...everytime I walked into the house for the past three days, the Nintendo red power light was the first thing that I looked at.  Next, was making sure the game still had some juice.

As for the programmers of Ghosts 'N Goblins...they must have been psychotic!!!!  First off, for the difficulty of the game.  Secondly, they must have put the "Continue" as the third option (not selected)...just to get an ever bigger rise out of kids.  If the game wasn't tough enough, they made people to remember to constantly push Select-Select-Start.  ASS!!

As for Dragon Warrior...when I said "back in the day", sorry.  I meant really back in the day...when I was a kid, playing every RPG that came out.

You were quite the RPG fan back in the day, I remember you had a special fondness for the Phantasy Star series.  Well, looking at the rest of the NES Victory page - http://dee-nee.com/misc/neswin.shtml - I say you are in charge of Legacy of the Wizard.  Sort of RPG-ish and I don't know anyone who has ever beaten that game.   Both are up your alley...

I won Dragon Warrior back in the day, myself. For some reason, I decided I needed a subscription to Nintendo Power. That game came free with the subscription.  Nothing was better than getting rid of the leather armor. Why would anyone wear leather armor anyway? It'll barely stop rain.

GDavis, I'm not sure I know how to respond to that . . .

That's not you, is it?!

The first thing I thought of when I saw the first pic was "Oh boy, Seanbaby would love that" - his site is solid, though I haven't viewed it that often lately...

I'm ususally not too judgemental, but that guy in video spotlight may be the biggest dork ever.
There was a story on MTV about this guy who is the self-proclaimed best Pac Man player ever. He said he beat the game and dares anyone to challenge his record. He said he's moved on and has and even bigger challenge ahead of himself. He won't say what it is, though. good luck.

His next challenge is to not be such a dork.  That's why he wouldn't say.

I can't stop laughing at the part where "Mario" tells kids that they can pass a game if they really want.  Classic!!!

Two things:

1)  Lips with the finest display of Nintendo anger I've ever seen...excellent.  It took me back to the day when I was a frequent controller-thrower

2)  I would like to meet the people who actually felt it necessary to seek out "Mario" for advice!  I have a hard time believing that his phone ever rings without some sort of mockery on the other end!
