How many of you would be interested in joining an original Tecmo Bowl tournament?  Let's assume a format similar to the COTUT: 16 players, $50 entry fee, double elimination series tournament, prize money to 1st-4th.

I know there's a cult following of this game out there and I'm trying to guage how many people from the Dee-Nee community might be interested.

If it were Tecmo Super Bowl, I'd do it, I don't have a copy of the original, and I don't think I've played it since before Super was released.

There is a group of  tecmo forums, and they have a forum dedicated to the original.  I'll find the link, I don't have it in my "favorites" since I changed jobs.

$50 is out of control. You're gonna need 16 guys who play that game as often as they masturbate. With RBI out there, there isn't time for another game. Anyways, drop it to 20 and you might get more commitment. However, you might also have to find, or start, a TSB website, such as this site, to get more interest.

We can have the tournament in my basement where I have the rest of my dead buried, ala John wayne gacey.

I'd come out for it, Beales.

I'd say Ultimate would, too.  He acts all cool like he's above these tournaments, but then cries when he can't make 'em.

Tecmo Bowl (which is better than Super, IMO) isn't tough to re-learn.  Pick up a controller and shake the rust, Ult.

I've never played Tecmo Super Bowl, so that's why I'm more interested in the original.  But I think the game is super easy.  There's like, what, a grand total of 7 offensive plays?  And even fewer defensive plays.  Simplicity in it's finest form.

I was thinking Tecmo Bowl might make for an even better tourney than RBI (in terms of all-out fun).  The reason I say this is because our defensive capabilities in RBI are so great that there is so little scoring.  In order to provide such a level of defense in Tecmo Bowl, you'd have to be a psychic and pick the perfect defense for your opponent's offense every time.  I just think that'd be less likely and there'd be crazy scores in a Tecmo Bowl tournament.

Please elaborate.  I can't think of anything I like better about the original.

I like the original better, but they are similar in many ways.  I feel that the original, since there are only 4 plays, is more of a "chess match" than Super.

...and the players are a little bigger in the original--I think that is a selling point (moreso that the players in Super are too small).

And in Super, it's really tough to return kick offs...returns are usually only 5-10 yards...that blows.  You can return kick offs a lot more in the original.

and Super has random fumbling--i hate that.

also, in the original, if a WR is covered, it's usually an interception.  in Super, it's still random--the WR will still catch the ball very often.  frustrating.

Joe Dirt hit the nail on the head....the original tecmo bowl features less random crap......so there aint no JJ's all day from Montana to Rice, or unstopable shit like that.  The original is a chess match like game....i have played easily over 200 head to head games in my life and the games that go on inside the game are great.

on a side note though, tecmo has a few glitches like the herschel walker curl route thats almost unstopable...if walker can get into the curl part of his route even when the defense picks the play there is almost no chance to pick off the pass.   the slants are something i can pick off about half the time, but some of the curls are dang near impossible to intercept.......something to think about before lining something up without rules ahead of time.

our tecmo bowl league limits how many of those you can throw a game to just 2, and never on 4th down o rinside the opponents 10 yard line.  we came up with a handful of other modified rules to make gameplay a bit better

i posted a link to this page from the tecmo repository message board.... to visit that board follow this link, http://www.knobbe.org/mx/index.php?page=2

and the original version of tecmo bowl has its own forum as well, with some slow but decent traffic.

Who are you paying to pleasure your wife while you go to these tournaments?

I'm not that skilled in Tecmo, but are you saying there is a way to stop that play when SF runs that route across the middle?  Sperling does that EVERY time he's in trouble (even when you pick it on defense) and he catches it everytime.  Your defender just kind of moves on his own out of the way.  Am I crazy here?

Gantry, i asumming yer talking about the slant that craig runs across the middle.....the key to picking this off is to move your defender up near the top of the screen once the ball is snapped.....best to use a MLB.....and once the ball is on its way to craig you have to come DOWN and BACK at an angle into its path.  if you try to come at from underneath then the thing happens where yer defender kinda squirms around the wr.

so just get up there near the top but not all the way to the top, then down at an angle behind yah.....blam..INT bitches....then when its on a play where you called the same play as him, you got a good shot at returning it for a TD.

if yah can, try and practice it vs someone else a bit just have em call the shot gun play and you do the same then get a feel for where you need to be.   craig also runs about the same route on pass 2 as well.  then when you play him, you'll be sure to fuck him up pretty bad.  Works real good with Singletary cause he's so dang fast, but Fredd Young (SEA) and mecklenburg (DEN) can nget the job done pretty well.  Offerdahl is also a guy with decent wheels to get in the right spot tosnag this one.

i cant pick it off all the time, but nate used to go to that when he needed some yards, but over time i got pretty money at swiping that one off......now nate is too scared to try to go to it when i pick his play.  usually he tries it in desperation last gasp time...and anymore i get it and the game is over.

Now bring on this damn money Tecmo Bowl tourney!  Angry
