Interesting article about Nolan Ryan, 1987 pitchers, and Joe Morgan's stupidity.

That is amazing - in general, Ryan had the misfortune of being on some rotten teams, but I never realized it was ever that bad.  Wow.

And yes, I agree that Joe Morgan is a moron.  Every time I read something he's written, I want to punch him in the mouth.

I really really really hate Joe Morgan.  But after reading his statement, I couldn't want him to die any more. How can you possibly say that ERA means less than wins? If a pitcher has a 1.00 ERA and gets 0.00 run support then that sure as hell doesn't mean he's not a good pitcher. As Joe says, ERA is like BA, it's a personal number and doesn't matter much. If BA isn't that important then why is Ted Williams' .400 season such a magical record? Because it's extremely f'in hard to do, that's why. ERA is super important, Nolan Ryan is a beast (think Robin Ventura) and Joe Morgan is a moron that needs to run into oncoming traffic. In addition, I also like Al Leiter, but I too don't find it necessary for him to show us how to throw a 2 seam and 4 seam fastball. I think the names are explanation enough.
