Gantry has a list similar to this on his website. The difference is hopefully what will compel you guys to vote - it is the opinion of the masses.
If it becomes obvious that this post is a failure, I will end it in shame and think of something more pathetic to post.
This is somewhat an extension of my last poll and will influence whether or not I do a poll for an RBI Hall of Fame.
The Ground Rules:
Voting should be based on how well you have done with a particular player. Voters should have played with every player in each category - (I mean really, how long have you been playing this game)
In a Purist spirit, the All-Star teams are not included.
Voting will be done by positions.
The number of polls used to determine a winner is subject to change, and probably will change.
How is the Winner Determined?
If one player receives more than 15 votes and holds a plurality, voting will close and he will be declared the winner.
This message will be posted, along with any modifications, on each new post throughout this series of polls.
The winners will be posted on a separate post, as well as on this post.
I think everyone here knows my feelings on Lou Whitaker.
SUCKS!!
Pretty easy one for me as well, it's all Sweet Lou. He and Doran are the only two hitters I keep in, and Doran blows...
Tommy Herr fans might want to sub "Blank" Morris at the #3 spot, it'll do wonders for ya...
Bobby Thompson got a vote? Now I've seen everything...
Sorry, it was me.
Not only did I not want to vote for Lou Whitaker, I wanted my vote to stand out as a non vote for Lou.
The only good thing Lou does is bunt.
Dammit, I hate that guy.
Whitaker, basically because there's no one else to vote for.
Sweet Lou is the king of the Grand Slam (thanks to the lefty hit).
I gotta go with Sweet Lou on this one. Granted, the guy tends to piss me off from time to time but it's not like there's a whole lot of competition at the 2B spot.
Sweet Lou all the way. He's a fucking RBI legend in my mind. Another one that isn't even close.
This position is REALLY bad...
My Top 3:
1) Lou Whitaker
2) Tommy Herr
3) Bill Doran / Gritch Tie
Son of a Grich is way better than Herr in my opinion. At least Grich has a little pop.
While he is a horrible, horrible RBI player, I believe it deserves mentioning that until Doug Mientkiewicz homered last October, Steve Lombardozzi jointly held the record for longest last name of any player to homer in the playoffs (11 letters; Mientkiewicz has 12).
sperling, who is that guy on your avatar? He looks like a young Eric Lindros wearing tights.
That guy is Steve Blackford, 165 pound All-American wrestler for Arizona State. It's eerie because that pic looks EXACTLY like Sperling, most friends probably wouldn't notice...
Now this on the other hand looks exactly like pots, because it's his senior year picture:

Lou and Trammel so far.
Where's the troll on this poll, I thought Bill Doran would get at least one vote.
Thompson's worse than Doran. At least Doran has some speed. Thompson's the worst player in the game as far as I'm concerned.
I knew my boy Sweet Lou would be vindicated someday. Whatever 2 losers voted for somebody else should be banned from RBI. Dee-nee to Lou Whit!

Don't mess with me Dove, I voted for Thompson. I'd do it again.
VGP, way to stick to your guns. But I also have to question the logic behind voting for Thompson, let alone keeping him in for a single AB.
Is this not a reasonable way to vote?
Actually, I thought it was Hunter Thompson, not Robbie.
VGP, since we're on the subject of Fear and Loathing, what's your favorite moment in the movie? Mine has to be when Johnny Depp counts down and then throws the orange at Benicio in the bathtub. I just about piss myself every time I see it. It's such a brilliant movie.
I always love when they're loaded up on ether, walking into Circus Circus.
If you read the book after seeing the movie, it's impossible not to hear Johnny Depp's voice as Raul Duke during the monologue.

worse than marc sullivan? that fudger can't even spell his name right.
Sully sucks no doubt. But I think RoThom is worse for two reasons.
1. Sully is a pinch hitter and Robbie is a starter.
2. You know Sully's sucks from his stats. RoThomp's stats are misleading causing you to think that maybe he's just in a slump. When the slump lasts 10 years you finally realize he's a dud.
My buddy once hit two homers in two games in a row with Sullivan. We were playing a five game series and needless to say, Sully was the MVP. Both his homers sealed the games. I hate Sullivan.
I agree, Sullivan can get you the pinch-hit dinger. Thompson is way worse. But IMHO the worst player in RBI is......
Steve Lake
God he sucks...
wow...that's interesting. I wouldn't say he's close to good or anything, but not sure I'd say he's the worst.
Clearly this will have to be our next poll question. :)
FYI...I don't think Sully is the worst, either...he just was first to come to mind when somebody said Robby T was.
Off of the top of my head, I'd say Santana is the worst.
Santana is complete ass, but I have a special spot in my heart for Steve Lake. Both have equally poor resumes...
Sweet Lou
Is no one gonna comment on the Potsie picture? I mean seriously...did all the Jack Daniels permanently alter your hair color?
By the way, I'm all Detroit...all day.
Don't worry lips, it's his main profile pic now. That picture will never die, Dee-Nee!
I'm not sure what's more impressive, the fact that there were 28 votes for a poll about RBI baseball, or the fact that it was so decisive.
EDIT: It should be noted that the "Warnig: 120 days" thing doesn't seem to be working.
Billy Doran would receive my 2nd place vote.
i'm a doran man, although i apparently voted for someone else at some point...i might have been the wally backman. either that or the puhl is closed.
If a choice is bold, that's who you voted for.

Then even though he has zero votes, I voted for Barrett.
apparently i didn't vote. is the puhl closed?
Thompson
I am a little surprised at the lack of discussion over Potsie's photo.
Yeah, ShitPaw would lock these puhls after the results were finished. Man 2B is a crappy position for RBI
Yeah, I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw the actual names.
Even with the All-stars you are just adding Sandberg and Randolph, it's like they did a 2B power subtraction
sweet lou was a world champion for the oc in last year's fantasy league. so he's got that going for him.
Including All-Stars, I still only start two 2Bs in the game. Shit, I can make a decent case for swapping out Doran as well...
Good thought, Gantree. I usually let Doran and Lombardozzi bat (although they both suck--I typically don't see the point in wasting a PH bonus because the alternatives suck, too--so I save the PH bonus for a clutch AB).
Although I also declared Whitaker to be the best, I more often than not sub him out right away. I usually leave him in while the SP is a lefty, but as soon as a R comes in, he's out.
The rest never see the outside of the dugout for me.
Except on the rare occassion that I strike a deal with Riley. We grew into the habit of trying to negotiate these guys into the line up. I often will offer Riley an "A" ball (no movement, no add'l speed, and right down the plate) to the Randolphs of the RBI world. I'd rather take my changes there than with McGwire and actually pitching to him (esp. with a R pitcher).
