The "chat" button at the top of every page will now be colorful if there are people in chat. You can also get a list of who's in the channel just by holding the mouse pointer over the button. I figured this was a way to show if there are people chatting without breaking the board layout, since the notice on the board index is kinda barely visible.
Thanks to Gerlost for the new button!
And yes, this thread sucks.
Ooh, this is a most solid idea. Works like a charm...
Can you make it turn a different color if there's wimmens in chat?
i'm in chat right now testing out that new button thing. this is fun. it would be more fun if someone was in chat to enjoy this with me.
Hmmm, I just tried going into chat (using IE) and all I got was some blank screen with a "FLOAT" button on it.

yes, only different
LOVE the new chat button but have noticed something. It only shows who is in the room if you're on the main forums page. If you're in any other section it still flashes but does not bring up who is in there when running the mouse over it.
EDIT The names pop up when in the News and NCAA Wrestling forum and the main page but not the others. Hmmmmm...
looks like Mclane's broken his one week alcohol abstinence.
Yeah, I've noticed the list of who's in the channel is a bit shakey. There's really nothing I can do about it though. The information is always sent, but sometimes it won't come up on the first try. If you don't see it, try moving your mouse pointer off the button then moving it back again a moment later.
Shit, I wish. I did have a margarita at dinner last night. Fuck, it was tasty.
But yeah, I"m an idiot. The chat button thing seems to work sometimes and not other times. I think it's just fucking with me.
Your stoopid.
Despite being a huge Jimmy Buffett fan, I've had about 2 margaritas in my life. Both I gulped down so I could drink something I actually liked.
a guy i know can beer bong a full blender of margarita. everytime he does it he smashes his fist against his head to fight the brain freeze
This is really funny i would like to see something like this. >:D
El Presidente margaritas from Chili's one of the greatest beverages ever!

yeah right! like anyone really believes it.
OK, it's broken again...I'm in chat, and the glowing button/list of people in chat thing isn't working.
Fix it!!!

How do I do this, Java is installed, and I can even run the Java Web Start application, but still no chat, Chat used to work at work, not sure what the problem is, I'll play around and see if I can figure out how to enable it.
You might need to play around with IE security settings. Control Panel -> Internet Properties -> Security -> Microsoft VM. Unless you're using Sun's VM, in which case I have no idea how it interacts with IE's settings. You might try playing with \Program Files\Java\(version)\bin\javacpl.exe.
Then again if you're trying this at work your firewall could be screwing you. You might ask coworkers if they've noticed anything suddenly "not working" recently.

this has many possibilities . . . and could get you a sexual harassment complaint
Oh, remember also that you don't have to use the Java chat. It's here only as a convenience. You can join the chat with any IRC client (mIRC, X-Chat, whatever) on server irc.everywherechat.com in channel #dee-nee.
Not working.
What the fuck ...
Apparently they dumped all their registered users and channels again. Should be working now.

Yeah, it should be working. But it isn't. And I'm
jacking off alone in chat.
You sonsabitches have the door locked or something? I thought since there is a nice sized crowd in the chatroom perhaps I'd grace you all with me presence. I've tried two fkn browsers and neither of them work. One just gives me a blank screen and the other (Firefox) totally just up and quits on me. I wanna come in , please let me Loser sonsabitches... who needs ya!
I had to follow the link at the bottom of the chat page to download some Java applet, and then come back and log in. It took several minutes to follow the labrynth. Did you get the red x?
The only links that show up for me are the same ones that are at the bottom of every page...
SMF 1.1 RC1.
Lewis Media
Otherwise the chat window that opens is pretty much blank with a "float" button near the bottom.
i had to download a couple differnet things and do a search for some of the shit it said my system required. took me about half an hour of dicking around with it one night to finally get my dinosaur of a PC to let me play along.
Wow, the new chat button is a real eyesore when it's blinking...
Anybody know who "JerryArr" is? I have never seen that username before, but he's been in chat all morning.
JerryArr = me

Agreed, but it's a great way to drum up chat. I talked to wulf about possibly kicking out idle users, as it only gets annoying when someone forgets to log out and the chat button stays on all day..
JerryD arg chatting pirate...
Fuck you annoying chat button. You mock me because you know I cannot access the chat session, even though I have updated Java and asked the matrix to solve the mystery.

You should update; Firefox 1.5 has been out for a while.
Tools -> Options -> Content -> Enable Java -- make sure it's checked
Quote from: nightwulf on 02/02/06, 06:34:33 PM
If it is, and Java's not installed, you should be seeing a "additional plugins required to display all the content on this page" notice. Also check the URL about:plugins and see if there's anything there to handle Java.
If nothing else, grab the latest install from here (http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=22&PartDetailId=jre-1.5.0_01-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg). (use the Windows Online Installation).

Not possible. Well it is, but users who are connected to the server but not in a channel are blacklisted and eventually K-Lined (because anyone who's not in a channel is suspected of being a drone). I swear I'm not making this up (http://www.everywherechat.com/faq.asp##30). Granted there's a relatively painless process to take care of it yourself should that happen to you, but still ...
So, uh, I guess the better option would be to have anyone who's been idle for, say, an hour not appear on the "who's online" list as reported by wumpst. No idea when I'll have this done. I fucking hate Tcl.
I.m goinmg im, warn thy neighboors
Malnu stopped in chat last night around 1am, didn't say anything. Had a feeling he was too drunk to type...
I think right around when he logged in was when he went downstairs and saw that his walls had been written all over in chalk, so he was busy laughing at that stuff until he called it a night.
these should probaly go in anything goes but heres some pics I took at 6:30 this morning.
edit: took out a few pics due to their borderline NSFW nature. Sorry I sliped up a bit.

What exactly is the picture of that is on the dart board?
Odd you should ask. It is, in all seriousness, a picture of my scrotal area when I was wearing a toga.

its true! Although the last dartboard I had had a Tom Brady picture on it.
Are you implying that my scrotum looks like Tom Brady?
I would probaly say the other way around.
I respect your scrotum alot more.
One thing I know, you will never hear about any tuck rules with my scrotum.
That is great you tacked your balls on a dartboard so people can throw sharp objects at them.
It was the most logical thing to do with a picture of my sack.

I'll use the non-graphical POW since I've been abusing it lately. Kane better be coming to Dee-Nee Chicago with Malnu, or I'll be pissed. Lips and I will even make sure to get the Over the Top soundtrack...

CHAT IS NOT WORKING AGAIN....
the button is not flashing and it does not show who is in chat!
There are 2 people chatting in dee-nee chat.
nomaaa-notawake, Boothead`idle
That works for me. You should just download mIRC from here (http://mirc.com).
Boothead, please disconnect from chat when you are done so the icon stops flashing...
I think Boothead and Nomaaa are busy studying for a test.

You are way to late. Nightwulf the chatmaster fixed it last night. Now please do as gantry said and log out of chat so the button will stop flashing. Thank you chat again soon.
I did not know that a flashing icon offended people so. Sorry.
Well, wumpst is now removing anyone with 'idle' or 'awake' (as in nomaaa's "notawake") in their nickname from the list of who's online. This should cut down on the flashing.
How dare you leave chat, MikeD?
If you do not mind me asking, why is it a problem to idle in there? Is the flashing button really that annoying? I would think that it would promote people to join the chat and such.
Dee nee chat isn't something that happens often. But when it does, it's usually fucking awesome. The flashing light and not really being in chat taints chat.
