Does anyone have a name for that stretch of wall in foul play that the ball always bounces off when it hits it? I love this wall. For some odd reason, i am fascinated by it. Am i just a psycho, or does anyone else feel this way?
I dont think we have a name for it, but we always notice when it happens.
are you referring to the wall that the ball hits in the stands and then bounces off the heads of the spectators? i must say, the fans in tengen stadium really need to do a better job of paying attention to the action on the field.
now that i think of it, those walls are probably where the bullpens are located... between the bleachers and the stands along the foul lines.
Very good observation, gwynn. Actually, if you look closely you can see the relievers getting warmed up.
I'm a little lost here boys, which wall are you talking about?
the one that is next to foul poles... in the stands... you know the one that hard line drives bounce off of and dose the spectators in the grill.
Ah I get it now... There really isn't a wall though right? Pretty much bounces off the end of the screen...
There is a wall there. The stands in foul territory are lower than the outfield stands. There is a small wall that rises to the higher elevation. I think "Shit Happens" can be seen written on the one in left field if you look closely.
I've got another new term. Whenever we hit a ball that looks as though it should be a homerun, but instead hits just above the top of the wall, we call it a "Metrodome", in honor of the plexiglass walls they used to have in Minnesota. This one is more obvious, although less rare, on would-be ground rule doubles where no matter how high the ball bounces over the wall, it hits the plexiglass and stays in play.
Another play that needs a term, you guys can make some suggestions: when you hit a towering fly ball and you are able to get the batter passed 2nd base before it is caught, also a rare one, needs right combo of power to hit it high enough and speed.
I forgot to mention this one during the World Series, is the ground ball that a right hander hits between the secondbaseman and the first baseman, kind of looks weird like he PUNCHeS it to the right side, I've been calling it "The Ecstein, I cant' spell his name, David Eccstein the Angels short stop who about 5 feet tall he does it all the time when he hits just punches it in that hole.
Joe might know the correct spelling, I dont' have time to look it up right now got to get to school.
