Title: overrated statistical players
Post by: pedriqrules on 05/22/02, 12:01:09 PM
This comment was brought up by someone else in another thread, but I thought it was deserving of its own thread:  Who are the players in the game who have really good stats but absolutely suck?

Kirby Puckett's name was brought up, and i'd have to agree.  I would also list candy maldanado--worst 4 hitter in the game,  glen davis for houston, who else?  maybe ripken could even crack the list.  I don't like him very much.

-  armas' 43 homers are misleading...
-  cal ripken's stats are nice but he plays like dick schofield.
-  denny corbet, and all the other pitchers with microscopic ERAs are overrated.
-  jack clark doesnt have pop like he should.
-  don baylor is not what his numbers say he is.

on the other side of the ball,
-  tim laudner is totally clutch... despite his listed avg. of .200.
-  dewey evans is way better than his 24 homeruns indicates.
-  cant forget all the subs with subpar numbers cause they all rake.    subs have the advantage of clutch hits in their first at bat.
-  ryne sandberg, a guy who most people remove for subs, has shown that he deserves to stay in the lineup over the likes of uno huevo kruk and tgwynn.

id say puckett is the worst when it comes to this....buckner should have more power (not that he plays ever)....and i agree about the pitcher's era....

brookens is the ultimate overachiever on the game...laudner is second in command....and madlock hits like hes a king...as well as rupert...

Robby Thompson is way overrated.  10 homeruns my ass!  His stats when I use him are .000 avg 0 hr

Bobby Thompson got a couple of drunken dingers for us last night...

I would say the five most overrated stats are

1) Puckett - No contest
2) Kevin Bass - Great #s, great speed, lefty but terrible
3) Geena Davis - 31hrs, what?
4) George Brett
5) Tony Gwynn - bats about .150

that .370 average does not transfer over to simulation...  seems like when he was younger he did much better in rbi... kindof like armas... maybe he will eventually regain his mojo.
