By the way, there was a Canseco reference on "Arrested Development" last night - Jason Bateman's character is visiting his dad in prison, where he plays on the softball team, and the dad has a line similar to the following: "You think you have it hard? We play (some other prison) next week, and the word is that they're getting Jose Canseco!"
I think Canseco could be servicable as a part-time DH. Not sure if he'd bat over .250 if he played full-time, but you could have worse players on your team. The attitude has to die down at some point, I'm sure all the time away has humbled him a bit...

Ruben Sierra is the man. He's serviceable and was the best option. When he played for the Rangers he was a force to be reckoned with, a to 10 MLBer.

Yeah, Torre hasn't never been of a fanof Sierra. He's not exactly the brightest guy in the world but he has a pretty sweet stroke. I'd take him over the burdened Raul Mondesi.

I also saw HoJo at spring training in 98 when he was trying to come back. He had always been my favorite player when I was a kid. I saw the Mets play at Baseball City against the Royals and I sat two rows right behind his parents. I could tell it was his parents because after the game he came up and talked to them. His mother was knitting the whole time except when he came up. Then she would put down her knitting and yell "Come on Howard." I think he struck out a couple of times and didn't get any base hits.
Also I met HoJo a couple years ago when he was the Brooklyn Cyclones hitting coach. They were playing in Pittsfield Mass. and I had my girlfriend wear my old HoJo jersey. He saw it and came right over to us and talked for a while, posed for a picture, and signed my HoJo game bat I had bought years back. He definitely went out of his way to talk with us and was a really geniunely nice guy. Made me glad I had picked such a nice guy to cheer for when I was a kid.
Yeah, HoJo is one of the nicest and most friendly players I've ever seen. I actually got my autgraph when I was 10 and he gave a speach at my school. He ran out of 8X10s but just kept signing anything kids would give him. I had him sign the back of my notebook, ripped it off that night, and my mom framed it. What I remember most about that day was he stopped and talked to every kid he gave an autograph to, asked their name and everything. It's always nice when a player takes the time to give back to the fans, it made my childhood.
