Recap
What began as a slugfest became a pitcher's duel in the late innings, as dvldog overcame a bundle of homers and some poor fielding to overwhelm GDavis and clinch a spot in the Fantasy RBI World Series.
GDavis took an early lead with 2 unearned runs in the first inning - with two on and two out, Glenn Davis hit a grounder to Jack Clark. Clark bobbled it, then made Reggie Jackson come in and field the ball, and the result was a 2-run, 3-base error. dvldog struck back quickly with a dashing display of doubles in the second. Rich Gedman, Wade Boggs, Dwight Evans, Reggie Jackson, and Kirk Gibson had RBI doubles interrupted only by a Bert Blyleven single, producing 6 runs and a big early lead.
GDavis responded in the 4th with an impressive power display. Willie McGee and Dave Henderson led off the inning with back-to-back homers, and Gary Gaetti and Tom Brunansky added solo and 2-run shots, respectively. Bill Doran then bobbled a two-out grounder by Lou Whitaker, leading to two more unearned runs.
After an exchange of 2-run homers in the 5th, it was all dvldog. Doran atoned for his earlier miscue with a game-tying 2-run single in the 6th, and his 2-run homer in the 8th gave his team the lead for good. Juan Berenguer and Willie Hernandez shut down GDavis from there on out, and dvldog continued his rise to the top.
