Post by: Baines on 01/09/06, 08:43:35 PM
Saw this while messing around on the AP wire at work:

PORT ST. LUCIE METS--Named Gary Carter manager

and for shits and giggles:

KANSAS CITY BRIGADE--Signed QB Steve Bellisari

Make sure I'm reading the wikipedia page right since the names different slightly:

Carter got named to be the coach of the Rookie league team?

Port Saint Lucie is different from Rookie ball, Rookie Ball doesn't exactly play full season. Looks like the Gulf Coast Mets just play at the same stadium. But I could be wrong.

You were right on Attezz, the Port St. Lucie Mets are a Class A Advanced team.  Missed their link on the previous wikipedia page:

Apparently Ricky Bones is Carter's pitching coach, haven't heard his name in awhile...

Tuesday's transaction of the day, not RBI related but close enough...

Cleaned up the Gary Carter page (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Gary_Carter), updating his info for the St. Lucie Mets.  Also added his new position to the WATN and this nugget to the Hall of Shame:

On his 34th birthday, Carter was in the lineup for a game against the Phillies. He went 3 for 3, driving in the Mets' only run with a home run. With 2 out in the 9th, Carter ended the game by getting picked off by Steve Jeltz's hidden ball trick.

St. Lucie is playing in Clearwater in early June.  Maybe I'll go to the game and annoy Carter about RBI.  Or maybe I'll just go and get drunk like I always do.

Make sure you ask him about grooming tips for his luxurious mop o' hair.
