Everyone's favorite unused resource (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) is now at an updated software version. I have also required that user's login before they make any changes. Since there are only a couple changes a week and most by me, I got sick of changing the 2-3 daily spam edits. There are other measures to combat spam, but this is easy and getting a login is still free...
If the db gets used more in the future I'll come up with a more robust spam solution...
What are spam edits?
Since it the RBI Database uses the Mediawiki software (same as the Wikipedia), anyone can edit any page at any time. Since there are no restrictions, spammers have found out ways to abuse this software and add links to their spam/viagra/porno sites automaticlaly. So the Mets page was constantly getting spammed and I got sick of removing the content...
Requiring people to login first stops most of the automatic Wiki spam programs out there, hence the update...
Does stuff like that happen at Wikipedia as well?
Wikipedia is 100x worse, they have vandals. People who just edit pages and add false stuff on purpose or just wipe them out. But they have thousands of people online watching recent changes so they can get away with it...
That didn't take long, two spam edits already.
A few months ago someone who apparently didn't like me went in and talked shit on me.
Should I be hurt or honored?
I think your page is perfect the way it is, you should be honored. I learned a lot about you:
