We can call this Round 1/Season 1/Part 1.  If you guys want to propose some ideas, or post your rankings; we can combine them some how to get an Official Ranking - all of the teams are about the same, so it'll be hard to say who's the best without getting heavy opposition.

The solution to the BCS problem is a playoff system - I think it would also work here.

I would include my rankings; combine it with a playoff system for the best 8; and combine that with some kind of tournament (all of this would be simulated of course) - I am definitely open to an expansion of this project - it is an opportunity to drag this thing out and hopefully gain interest from prospective new members.

I think it's a great idea, simply because I'm one of the Great Eight.

Dvldog, you're gonna make roms with each of our eight teams?  Or roms with the two all-time teams?

I'm assuming you want our teams in the same format as the all-time teams were voted with.

I'll post my all-time team in a little bit.

This is good.  I feel like I'm joining some exclusive club or something.  I'm honored.
VGP, good call with the Old School quote (I see Blue, he looks glooorious.)
GDavis, I'm a prolific poster/loser.  Dvldog is actually going to overtake us both soon.

I've pined for this numerous times, but does heaven include ROM-created RBI on NES cartridges?

This could be tricky, but I'll go off my head:

1) Chili Davis
2) Kirk Gibson
3) Darrell Evans
4) Reggie Jackson
5) Lou Whitaker (subbed for Ruppert)
6) Alan Trammel
7) Matt Nokes
8) Doug Decinces (Spilman/Sheridan Time!)

Bench:

Ruppert
Spilman
Armas
Sheridan

Staff:

Clemens
Blyleven
Hernandez
Beringuer

Since I'll have so many studs in the lineup, I went with Armas on my team because if you want a righty for one AB, it would be Tony.   Ditto with Clemens, I'm thinking straight pitch for this team, Clemens gets the nod over Krukow.

Thinking a lefty starter could hurt this team in straight pitch....
Title: Re:All-Time Team

I'll stick with the same team name and color scheme as my team in the fantasy league.  Here's the lineup:

Vince Coleman
Alan Trammel
Darryl Strawberry
Kent Hrbek
Gary Gaetti
Chili Davis
Lou Whitaker
Tony Pena

"Ellis" Burks
Randy Bush
Davey Lopes
John Lindeman

Nolan Ryan
Doc Gooden
Juan Berenguer
Jesse Orosco

Team speed is my strength, and I made sure to pick some guys who have the speed/power combo (Straw, Trammel, Burks).  I almost went with the all-speed team (Coleman, Ozzie, Doran, Pettis), but I got about halfway through and realized that they sucked.
Title: Re:All-Time Team
Post by: Gantry on 12/17/03, 11:18:46 AM
Yeah, small ball isn't going to win against the lineups we've been posting.  Christ, I pitch half the speedsters donw the middle just to get it over with...
Title: Re:All-Time Team
Post by: fknmclane on 12/17/03, 11:26:53 AM
Beef, you have a lineup full of drag-racers!  I love it.  But I think Gantry is right.  I don't know if they can keep up with the power of the rest of the lineups posted.  I'd love to have an all-speed team.  Raines, Coleman, Ozzie, Straw, Trammell.  I'm getting goosebumps.
Title: Re:All-Time Team
Post by: BeefMaster on 12/17/03, 11:38:37 AM
There aren't any fast 1Bs, so I decided to forget about it for a moment and take my all-time favorite Twin.  3B is another position mostly devoid of speed, so I figured Gaetti would do.

I think my lineup would keep up with the other teams pretty well - I don't have a masher like Reggie, but I have four or five pretty big hitters, plus I can bring Burks off the bench for another speed/power combo.
Title: Re:All-Time Team
Post by: fknmclane on 12/17/03, 11:58:46 AM
No speed at third?  You're forgetting Terry Pendlesack, the anchor of my infield.  He may not be a true speed demon but he's faster than most.
Title: Re:All-Time Team

Not a bad idea at all.

Here's another that just popped into my head... maybe someone will want to do this as a future project: Have a draft!  Pick 8 "owners" and have them draft from the available players in RBI.
Title: Re:All-Time Team
Post by: BeefMaster on 12/17/03, 12:28:20 PM
Uh, Red, have you been gone for awhile?  We just did this a few weeks ago.  We put together a 5-team league (myself, dvldog, Glassjoe, vgp100, and GDavis), put our drafted teams into a custom ROM, and had the computer play an 8-game season, followed by a World Series.  Right now, the World Series between myself and dvldog is tied at one game apiece.  Check the "Tengen League RBI" board for game recaps, stats, standings, etc.

Tony Pena at catcher?
Title: Re:All-Time Team
Post by: BeefMaster on 12/17/03, 02:37:55 PM
I know it's illogical, because he isn't really very good, but I've always had a soft spot for Pena.  He always played really well for me back in my younger days using the Cards for repeated World Series against one of my friends, and I couldn't bring myself to leave him off.  I almost threw in Laudner, but I already had two Twins in my starting lineup.

What are you doing starting Burks? What kind of fantasy land do you live in.
In the real world Burks first name is Tim and he's on the bench. Gedman and George Brett are righties and Dwight Evans plays centerfield. That's just the way it is!
Title: Re:All-Time Team

Maybe I should change mine. I'd like Steve Carlton to be my starting picher. Maybe Bo Jackson in the outfield.

vgp100,

You tread a fine line when you challenge my logic :)  I choose burks and baylor becuase of their speed.  Most players are ill equiped to handle my baserunning skill.  Having speed in the lineup helps tremendously espically if you play curve style and have to leg out hits.

Fantasy land?  Or pure genious?  I choose the latter.

This should make me look like a moron/dumbass - I can't remember the final tally on that one...

sucka gets to keep his lineup, but nobody else can change theirs - abstractly thinking of the idea of originality - and the idea that he finally DID post a team - I'll have to suck up to sucka and let him have his team the way it is.

It also should serve as a basis of improvement if someone wants to do one of these in the future.

By the way sucka, what did you think about those Rose websites?

Thanks for looking out Dog.  I have seen those websites about rose but my opinion still stays as it is.  Rose is coming out with a tell-all book on January 8th!!!  I'll defintily be reading this when it comes out.  Its rumored that he may be writting that he did bet on some games.  The details of the book have been keep pretty secretive.  Can't wait.

I had some gripes with F'ing McKlane when he first showed up but then he read the glossary and everything seemed peachy.  Now I hear that he doesn't do Breakfast Club?  You can eat my as F'ing Die Hard guy!  Go and watch 3 Emilo Estevez movies immediately.  You get bonus points for every Brook Sheilds sighting too!  As for sex with women and drinking.  Those are Dee-Nee priorities 2 and 3.  If you don't love them plus love RBI even more... you might need to shut down.

I am proud to use my 400th post to report that my team is a bunch of studs.  I wanted to test their mettle so I set to watch a game of my boys vs. the forum "a" team.  We beat them down 24-19 in classic brawl.  Da. Evans didn't contribute much though shitting himself the whole game to match his uni.  Nolan Ryan even gave up a top 2nd 2 run triple to Doc Gooden.  I immediately poured the appropriate 10 drinks directly onto my cpu.  Despite these opening day miscues my boys performed admirably with such moves as a pinch hit 2 run blast by none other than Urmas himself.  Looking forward to welcoming all comers!

QuoteI can play it on MAME, right?

No.  You need a NES emulator - MAME only works for arcade ROMs, which we don't know how to edit.  The consensus is that your best bet is FCEUltra - get it here (http://xodnizel.net/fceultra/).  FYI, to change from window to full-screen and back, press F4 - that took me awhile to figure out the first time I used it.

JimRice/Dvldog, how do you get all this shit done for us?  You're like a dee-nee Christmas angel or some shit.

Notice that sucka got the ole *asterisk* next to his name.  Better fix that up.  Great work as usual dvldog, but I think we will need a more comprehensive sample to uncover our teams true tendencies i.e. my total dominance.

7th place kinda sucks. I think the problem is--the computer is an asshole. If a player used my team it would be dominant. I arranged that squad for human play. That's why the computer has held a grudge against the team from Provo. (The story is Provo)

This is like the BCS.
We need to take into consideration strength of schedule, quality wins and Human polls.

[Once a letter has been used in each slot, I don't think it can be used again - ex. (If Reggie wants Rg, Retard Guy will have to think of a different two-letter name)  I didn't have much with it last time, so I just used the default.  We'll see how it goes this time]

This is still open; Reggie requested to be put on the team, so there are 9 spots open.  Quite a few new members have joined since (not because of) I posted the Guest incentive thread.

Ya know how a lot of new members post once or twice, and never really get into it?

Well the idea was to provide a "push start" if anyone wanted one.  Halaris' crew doesn't seem to need one, though, and I think they are the big reason for all of these new guests... but it's open for any new guests from "seddrah" on... technically, BDawk as well.
