It's a glorious day in RBIville, as one of our favorites, Kevin Mitchell, turns 44 today. The day will be devoted to all things Mitchell, including his RBI prowess, off the field "transgressions" and just about anything else you got. I've started things off with a Puhl, vote and share your thoughts. We get 15-20 of them and I'll add it to the page....
Secondly, I'm calling everyone out for a Kevin Mitchell Database Drive. His db page needs a buttload of updating, including a short bio, maybe a section on Mitchell in RBI, the basic stats in the "bio" section, hall of shame entries, that cool career stats tables used on the Dale Murphy Page (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Dale_Murphy), external links and so on. Please do whatever you can to help:

Today's an imporant day, lets give Kevin Mitchell the love he deserve. Vote, post and edit!!!!
And if you vote first or last for Mitchell, be sure and rank the other two San Fran guys in a post so we know your whole order...
I personally like Mitchell, though I consider him last out of the bunch. Who I have first is darn close, but I'm inching towards the Candyman. Leonard is faster, Candy more powerful and I've had more good games with Maldonado - he shows up the most for me while Leonard and Mitchell are streakier...
1. Candy
2. Leonard (pronounced Lee-a-nerd by Octofranco)
3. Mitchell
This is tough, all these guys are streaky and I haven't played in a long time, but if memory serves correct my order was this:
Leonard
Mitchell
Candy
I voted the best since I play BPSP mostly.
He would be last in ATG.

I don't understand how/why. I'd think he be last in BPSP.
He's last. Maldonado was always good for me, and Leonard has been cleaning up in the fantasy league enough that I'm really recognizing his skills.
Their power numbers are all close, though Mitchell is last in that category. That's why I think streakiness is the most important factor for all of us. On any given day, these guys are so close in #'s that anyone can be the best....
Stock - Don't forget to list who you think is 2nd and 3rd....
Beef - So you going Candy, Leonard, Mitchell?

The Mitchell Page (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Kevin_Mitchell) has had a complete overhaul thanks to usc and myself. In fact, we were editing the page at the same time. I'm not 100% sure how wiki handles it, but I think it informs you if you are both editing a page and changing the exact same content. I saw no errors or warnings on my side, did you USC?
PS - The "history" tab is a great way to see what exactly changed betweeen each edit.
Like the idea with the captions for the pics at the bottom, nice work..

Yessir.
Sorry to keep pimping, but I would highly recommend that folks start reading the Mitchell page, fighton is adding mucho fun facts to his bio that I haven't heard before:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Kevin_Mitchell
I didn't see any warnings, and was surprised to see additional info.
I added a new tidbit about Mitchell - apparently, at the end of Game 6 of the 1986 WS, when Davey Johnson wanted him to pinch-hit in the ninth inning, he had to be tracked down in the clubhouse. Allegedly, he was on the phone in the clubhouse making reservations for a flight home back to San Diego. He would single and later score the tying run.
Here's where I got the link from (http://thisdaybaseball.blogspot.com/2005_01_09_thisdaybaseball_archive.html).
Yeah, I never heard that one before...
I'm pretty sure the Wiki allows multiple edits, but I think it only warns you if you've edited a spot that someone else has changed since you clicked on the edit button. It's smart like that...
In honor of the man's birthday, you could purchase an authentic, life-sized picture of Kevin Mitchell's head (http://cgi.ebay.com/1990-TOPPS-HEADS-UP-ODDBALL-KEVIN-MITCHELL_W0QQitemZ8710105503QQcategoryZ55933QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), complete with suction cups, so you can put in on your car's window and have Kevin Mitchell starting out at other motorists...
That's a most confusing item... Is it a picture with a suction cup on the back? Only $3, most tempting....

Your right. Not sure what I was thinking. I would rank him last in any style of play. He is tied for the slowest and has the worst power AND contact numbers. Maybe I was just giving him subconscious love for his birthday.
I would rank Leonard first in ATG, and Candy first in BPSP.
Apprently, it was a product called "Topps Heads Up" that Topps put out in 1990. According to a description I found, it was "cardboard cutouts of star players heads, with a small suction cup on the back so it could be stuck to a wall or window".
You can buy a complete set of all 24 players for $3 from a different vendor (http://cgi.ebay.com/1990-Topps-Heads-Up-Baseball-Wax-Box-24-ct_W0QQitemZ8746775748QQcategoryZ60444QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).
Aloing with Kevin Mitchell, RBIers included are:
- Tony Gwynn
- Will Clark
- Doc Gooden
- Bret Saberhagen
- Ryne Sandberg
- John Franco
- Mark McGwire
- Jose Canseco
- Don Mattingly
- Kirby Puckett
That second link looks like the one to get, though it's 24 one-card "packs" so technically you could get two of the same dudes...
And remember to vote people!
I refuse to participate in your elitist ranking system.
I just bought one, paid the extra buck for priority mail, pics to come in a few days.
In the description (which I skimmed) I got the impression that it's a case of the 24, like how they were shipped to card shows back in '90. I doubt there are duplicates.
I may put a circle and a line through the Raffy Palmeiro one to hang on my car.
mr. mitchell requests that there be no doughnuts or cupcakes at his birthday party.
But he would like a duffel bag ful of tacos, along with a car with a sunroof.
Maybe that's why he's coaching in Mexico - easy access to cheap tacos.
I think I may have had one of those head thingys, of Sandberg. I remember buying something like that and being excited when it was Ryno. I have no idea where it would be now, though; probably tossed when my little brother took over my old room.
1989'S MVP, 1986 WS Ring, and a checkered but entertaining past, quite a wrap sheet on the site's hall of shame section; it was front (sports) page news the day he knocked out a rival team's owner with just one punch. Thanks for the memories Mitch. Good luck south of the boarder, I hope you find your baseball sanctuary.
Happy Birthday, celebrate as only you can (bowl of coke and cheap mexican hookers).
Also.
1. candyman
2. mitch
3. jeff leonard
1.candy
2.mitch
3.leonard
sorry, beef, but there's never been a card board cut out of my sexy face.
I think they're all pretty good, but I'd go with:
Leonard
Candy
Mitchell
Oh shit, I hope Attezz doesn't bust me because I read this thread earlier today but am just now responding to it...
