So in a recent topic, there was talk about how amazing it was how different baseball players looked before the mid nineties...well here is proof....And yes....it is hilarious! Hopw could anyone dislike Carney Lansford...look at him for god sakes!
I suggest that along with steroids testing the mlb insitutes a mustache policy... must have one to play. It's for the good of the game.
Or fu-man-chus.
If I remember correctly, Carney was one of the bigger dudes back in the days of the Bash Brothers. And look at him now. He looks like a midget.
Just look at Carney's smile...he's one happy motherfucker.
By the way...homeruns = boring. I never thought I'd see the day that I'd say that, but they've definitely become too commonplace in today's game. Now an Ozzie Smith homerun....that's a totally different story.
Don't get me wrong, home runs aren't a bad thing. I still get excited to see my team hit a shot to put them ahead. With that being said, I don't consider it "exciting" to see a team have 7 hits with 4 of them being home runs. That's when it becomes boring. My previous post was probably misleading (I tend to generalize when I'm lazy), but I am a huge fan of Whitey Ball....you know, manufacturing runs. Different strokes for different folks I guess....I think the 90's - present have kind of ruined the long ball for me....who knows, I might change my mind when they finally start cracking down on steroids.
The drama of baseballis the ninth inning.......
I always felt a pitching duel is more exciting than anything else. This is because every pitch becomes more and more important. The tension when your team has a runner on, waiting for a single or double to bring him around. Or when your pitcher is on the mound trying to shut down an opposing rally. Even the smallest thing like stealing a base, or moving a runner over becomes monumentally important. In addition, the game moves at a brisk pace.
