Title: Dave Smith (51) and Jose Uribe (47) had birthdays yesterday!
Post by: Gantry on 01/22/06, 10:47:39 PM
Looks like January 21st is a popular day for RBI'ers.  Lets discuss these two guys as well...

How good of a reliever is Dave Smith?  I know he has a little heat, but I rarely pitch with the guy....

Also needs some major database work...

I think Dave Smith is on the bottom end of the RP ranking list...and Jose Uribe, well, he's great......at keeping the lead off spot warm for Mr. Spilman.

Worse than say Schraldi?  I figured his decent speed at least puts him in the middle, but my ignorance is showing here...

I'm not sure I'd take it that far.  There's not much worse than Schraldi...'cept for King and Moore maybe.

I'd probably put Davey boy up there right ahead of Schraldi.  But since Ryan is such an innings eater, Davey can be limited to an inning or less often...so that's probably really the biggest difference.

Just put Uribe's stats up on the db, he's even worse than I remember.  747 power is pretty fkn terrible and a 128 speed is pretty pathetic speed for a leadoff hitter.  Might be the worst the game...

Willie Randolph is also a 128.

Dave Smith had a wicked hair helmet. Kind of like that kid on Eight is Enough. If I remember correctly, Uribe lost his wife and kid(s) is a car wreck while he was still playing.

Dave Smith is amoung the 4 worst RPs it's tough to seperate them, Uribe is one of the worst lead off hitters, not a good RBI birthday day.

This thread isn't nearly as good as the Mike Krukow thread.

No it isn't, even with two players we can't get anyone to talk about these fine gentlemen.  Interesting blurb from Uribe's wikipedia page:

Jose was also humorously the "Player to Really be Named Later". Early in his career, he was delivered as "the player to be named later" in a trade between the Giants and the Cardinals. Between the time of the initial trade and his delivery, he changed his name from Jose Uribe Gonzalez (Gonzalez is his mother's name) to just Jose Uribe (Uribe is his father's name) in order to minimize confusion with the more common name of Gonzalez. Thus he really was "named later".

Added Uribe in RBI, Career Stats, etc - basically we have a full page now and I'm sick of updating his page, as it has WAY too much detail for such a shitty real life and RBI player.  Career .614 OPS?

The only thing I need is to find more of his baseball cards from 1988 (I only have Donruss).  Usc - you have a secret for doing this?  I do all the image searches and usually ebay after that, but I'm not getting too far with uribe...

I uploaded a (uninteresting) pic to Dave Smith's page (I always thought he was black), I tired to add a description but I'm not sure how.

Help!

Atezz, you have to use the "thumb" option with [[Image]], as that'll let you add a description.  Use the one previously on the page as an example:

[[Image:smithwings.jpg|thumb|175px|'''Dave Smith''' with wings]]

The "175px" option is the size of the picture in pixels.  Either take that out (where it'll determine it's own size) or play with a larger number to get it to work.  Remember too - use Preview until you get it where you want before you save.  Give it a whirl!

Even after seeing him pitch several times, I still think that Cliff Lee is black.

Those are my two main places to search - with eBay, you have to make sure to click on to search the categories and descriptions to get more results.

You can also search Froogle (http://froogle.google.com) for some additional pics.
