not necessarily from an rbi standpoint, which player(s) in rbi do you hate so much that you want to drill them every time they step up to the plate
my choices are roger clemens (at least in rbi they didn't include his stupid wordhole, or the yank-shits), and kirk gibson
for me, the players i hate are not necessarily cause they rake against me as they fail to do anything for me when i use them. i know gantry doesnt want to hear this but i absolutely hate the combo of meat and potatoes cause they NEVER do anything for me.
as for the atari, i used to be a big fan of joe adcock... however the guy stopped doing anything for me after his initial success. i now dispise him... i am now a fan of hack wilson.
I hate Bill Buckner because he never gets a hit. He hits like a girl. As for the Atari i hate Phil Neikro. His moves the one batters box to the other.
as ive once stated before, i hate the entire new york mets team...short of rafi santana.....and my least favorite piece of garbage on that squad is ray knight...everything about him makes me sick....
Yes the Mets are a dissapointing team. They can be frustrating if u r trying to pull of a win. The only good thing about that team is Strawberry, HES GOOD. Hes like a diamond in a pile of rocks.
Not to beat a dead horse on this forum, but Wade Anthony Boggs is my official most hated player at this point. I'm so tired of giving up dingers to that loser...
Even though Darrell Evans has a 3.000 slugging percentage against me lately, I can't say he's most hated. I respect his game, unlike the Wabbit...
not only does it suck to give up a bomb to "chicken boy" but then you get the privledge of facing RBI next...
i must admit that i hate the american league allstars... they are all in an enormous slump. mcgwire has done nothing but hit pregame warm up for infielders. taco bell has become a singles hitter. cal ripken(i hate him) is a weak five hitter, brett should be batting left, and baines is underachieving... the only guy on the team that is doing his job is don mattingly. the pitchers(except saberhagen) have been far from effective. righti has no movement and henke lasts for about three hitters.
Just added "Taco Bell" to George's nicknames, thanks Gwynn. I'm bit peeved that I didn't think of it earlier. We are big TB fans here at the dee-nee house, we typically eat it 2-4 times a week...
Speaking of TB, I gave up an opposite-field homer to Tom Brookens tonight, thank you Potsie. Sperling did the same thing to me a few weeks ago. What a fuck...
hold your head high gantry...being blessed by and opposite field shot to mr brookens is seen as a divine sign in most countries....
brookins is a hot/cold hitter... he gets in a groove and look out.. he has those stretches though where he needs to rest and let madlock/bergman get some hacks.
I can't think of any hit more frustrating than that Tom Brookens opposite field shot. Doubly so because he got seven more runs after that, all with two outs! I will not forget Tom Brookens, your time will come...
Brookens is one of the players that never has a slump. A bad game for him is still average. I hate Chicken Boggs, Ripken, Kirby Wifebeater, and Geena Davis.
in our contests, there have been times where brookins cant hit his way out of a wet paper sack. on the other hand, he has his moments where he picks up 5 rbi's with two swings of the bat.
with the solid bench in detroit, it is a tough decision... who gets the playing time? we all know that hearndon is getting benched... as for the rest, sometimes i like to take out lemon to add another lefty to the potent lineup.
I agree with Gwynn, Tom Brookens is typically feast or famine. Though he seems to be on quite the hot streak lately...
ill agree that there are times that brookens gets into a bit of a power slump, but for me, he always hits the ball hard....plays a remarkable thrid base....hits very well to "brookens alley", which is located in the bleacher seats directly between left and center...and is the most clutch hitter ive run into
also, to reference gwynn's earlier comment, i rarely take out anyone besides herndon...he should play for the mets....i cant bring myself to take out cheddar (or as he's known here, chester copperpot)....the only one i would ever dream of would be whitaker, becaues he seems to be the least consistent on the squad...
against a filthy righty like clemens, ryan or doc, inserting bergman in the six hole makes it 6 lefties in a row. by doing this, you can foul off their tough pitches and add to their pitch counts insuring that they will be history after the 5th inning and then you can go to work on the bullpen.
that is true...i hadnt thought of that, however, i dont play very heavily into the righty lefty thing....actually i find i have better luck pitching when im facing someone who is the opposite handed batting....and when hitting, unless its a sidearmer, i dont really have an advantage either way...but that is just me
i would agree with you unless it is clemens who just abuses right handers... he struggles mightily vs. the tigers lineup of lefties.
I usually just read post from this site I felt the need to write one after i read your analysis of Tom Brookens. I could not hate that man any more that i currently do. Every single game i play it seems like he hits 2 out of the park against me. just had to vent.
that is tommy brookins for ya, he'll either kill ya or be a non-factor... who knows which guy will show up each game and that is where it takes a solid manager who knows when to play him and when to sit him.
I've always taken out Brookens, usually sub in madlock there, even before the Sheridan hype PS was a full-time player for me, he always went in for Herndon. Now Brookens is playing well, its a tough decision now, Madlock and Sheridan and Brookens, 2 are going to start, one will have to sit. Usually depends on a righty or lefty throwing.
Well that last post by Burnzky was by GPines, forgot to log out. Another free one for Aaron.
Heep (who you may remember was the guy who first sent pics of the mini-pitcher glitch), myself and a few others need to start an anti-Brookens club. If he is on, it's very tough to beat Detroit..
I am not the Det guru, those like the others, I win most of my games with them. I always go PS in the five spot and Bergman at six. Chet Lemon is a non-factor for me, though he's absolutely crushed me last night. Been talking too much smack about him lately. Lips likes to keep Lemon in until there is a lefty on first, then it's Bergman and lefty-hit time...
We all still haven't seen the mini-pitcher glitch in action...
i am going to have to put jesse orozco on my hated players list. the guy is so damn old he owes jesus money... i dont see how he is still pulling a pay check. if the only qualification is to be a lefthanded reliever then maybe tug mcgraw can come back too. RETIRE already!
Does that mean Orosco made a roster? He has the double fame - RBI legened and one of the ugliest players in the league. Not at Willie McGee level, but he's certainly no looker...
its been a while since ive posted because ive been working alot, but an anti-tom brookens club stired my stew a little too much to let it go....i can take some solice in knowing its because the man has been a clutch performer and a terror to you guys and that fuels the hatred...but boys, much like the messiah coming to set you free, you must accept and embrace his glory....you will only torment yourself more until you realize the man cannot be stopped...he will never stop until all are converted to covenant.....so please, gentlemen, i beg you...give in to the ganduer which is tom brookens baseball.....
I'm pretty sure I saw Jesse Orosco warming up in the Dodger bullpen the other day. He looks like he is about 50 years old!
in reality the old fart is 45. he is so damn old i dont see how he is getting hitters out. what does it say for the dodgers minor league system if they are relying on this stale piece of poo. one of these days his arm might just fall off.
Gantry,
I would gladly start a brookens hate club, the only teams i play with are the mets and sometimes the cards (yes i know they are prolly two of the worst hitting teams, i just love the speed they bring) anyway the only team i ever face it seems like is the dann tigers and i always try to keep ojeda in for just one more batter and brooken makes me pay for it, damn him.
Also i meant to tell you we had another glitch that happened the other day, similar to the minipitcher glitch only this time he was standing on second base and he looked giant, it was really weird, we took a picture, i'll send it to you as soon as i get it.
A Brookens hate club might defnitely be in the works, looks like we can scrap up a few more members...
Send that pic over and I'll put it up right away, keep up the good work. Wondering if I'm ever going to see any form of the mini-pitcher glitch...
Boy, the night owls are on the board! 3 users and a guest at 3am?
please guys...tom has feelings too.......
as far as glitches go, i think ive found a way to make them happen...now this isnt a hundred percent effective, but works at about a 75% clip....what you need to do is press start and pause the game where you can make the pitcher and the batter not be on the screen yet....this is most effective after a half inning or if you can do it before a new batter....if you do it and substitute a hitter, the pitcher has the tendency to be located somewhere else...ive had pitcher at second, pitcher located about halfway between the mound and home....sometimes at third....ive had the pitcher be located on the plate and sometimes even behind it....and it will stay like this until the batter makes contact....so try that if you can, im not sure if anyone else had noticed that
Worst player is Robby Thompson. Has he ever gotten a hit??? EVER???? He has 10 homers but i think its impossible to hit a dinger with him. If anyone has let me know.
GDavis, I put in Aldrete for Thompson, and Speilman in leadoff.
I would like to hear about making the glitch happen by pressing start before the pitcher and hitter get set. Anyone else had any luck, I will try it later tonight.
Like Piner, somehow I missed bban's post about the moving pitcher glitch. I have yet to see this glitch happen live, so I'll definitely give it a shot. Though nothing will happen until after tourney time...
As an update, I have been kicking Potsie's ass the last couple weeks. Have 6 victories in 7 games or somtehing like that. Cali is really starting to swing and Potsie is losing his Detroit touch. Played only one game tonight, 5 inning slaughter with Cali and 14 dingers. Last game before the tourney, I'm ready...
like i said boys....it doesnt work everytime and you need to make a substitution to make it happen....with your batter...its best if it is between innings....cause then you can keep hitting start fast and get it before they set....i did it to t yesterday and my pitcher was standing right in front of the plate
Nobody more than I hate than J Clark of the Cardinals... you get used the the unpowerful hitting of the Cards, but then JC comes up at clean up hitter and goes yard...
Brookens rules! I have no quarrel with Brookens. However, I hate Tony Armas. Not only are his stats complete bullshit (they never really happened), but he is a big fucking turd!
tony armas' production has dropped steadily over the years. when the game first came out, he was one of the most feared hitters in the game... i think his hands have slowed like moises alou's and his best years are behind him... on top of this, the guy grounds into way too many double plays.
I will now take this opportunity to correct myself. Armas' stats did actually happen. However, they happened in 1984, not 1986. Also, Reggie Jackson's stats are from the 1982 season.
I agree with Gywnn on Tony Armas. Many people think he's one of the top couple players in the game, but he's doesn't do quite damange he did back in the day. My only theory (admittedly a weak one) is that he's a good off-swing power hitter, making him much more potent when you are developing your swing...
And the RBI programmers are well-known for their inconsistency regarding the player stats. Some of those pitcher ERAs came outta thin air...
i'll say... all the offensive stats these guys have and the pitchers era's are under two... these guys all era's that bob gibson would be proud of.
