Does anyone have any vector based artwork for RBI? I'm looking to do some custom graphics work for my cabinet and am just curious if anyone has anything. Images of the players from the startup screen (like the ones used for the aviators would be cool).
If no vector stuff is out there, howzabout a nice big ol' Tiff or JPEG. Anything?
Thanks in advance.
If anyone has a jpeg I can probably have it vectorized or whatever.
No vector artwork to my knowledge. If you need in-game artwork the easiest thing to do is take snapshots from an emulator. Note that they won't be "big ol'" at all, since the maximum resolution of the NES is 256x240.
The first idea I had was to record the tv screen footage onto dv and then onto my computer. I was then gonna extract a still of what i needed to make the artwork. PITA to do it that way and I was looking to avoid it if possible. I'm just looking for the cleanest method that'll product the best output.
Maybe I'll give the screen capture a try off of the emulator and see what it gives me to work with.

Frankly, you're better off just taking screencaps from an emulator. The best video output you'll get from an NES is with a generic RCA video line (this predates S-Video and RGB appearing in home electronics).
If you're using FCEUltra, use F9 to take the screenshots, rather than using PrintScreen - F9 will just copy the NES screen, where PrintScreen will get the title and menu bar, too. Also, the built-in screenshot with F9 will save automatically, so you wouldn't have to paste it anywhere before taking another one.
Screenshots from FCE are in PNG format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Png) as an FYI. If you need that in JPG or TIFF, it's easy to convert and since PNG is lossless it should suit you fine...
Doesn't Joey D have some nice rbi artwork?
I'm using a Mac and rocknes. I launched it last night and it isn't very crisp on the visuals so the screens I took are a touch blurry. The gameplay is good but the graphics are a bit off due to blur for trying to do what I want to do.
Part of the charm of the original 8-bit is that it is kinda blocky. So, trying to blow it up and then vectorize it isn't gonna be all that hard I don't think. It'll just be made a bit easier if the pic I start from has the most detail possible.
How were the aviators created? Were they from a standard file or were they created from scratch?
Thanks for the input again and if anyone knows if Joey D has artwork for sure, please advise.
I really don't understand how you're seeing "blur" in taking screens from an emulator. Unless RockNES does something goofy like save in jpeg format, it's simply not possible. Like Beef said, you're taking screenshots through the emulator, not via some other graphics program, right?
Sorry, I meant that even just playing the game using the rocknes emulator, the game is displayed with blur. I have no idea why. Maybe I'll try making some settings changes to see if it does anything different. Again, it is nominally blurry. Nothing that takes much away from playing it.
Yeah, I don't use RockNES, much less own a Mac, so I'm not much help here. Look for output filters or something to that effect, and see if you can remove them. I didn't see anything useful in the RockNES (Win32) readme though.
You also might try a different emulator. NESCafe (http://www.davieboy.net/nescafe/) should work fine on any platform. I wasn't impressed with the speed, but if all you're doing is taking screenshot, that shouldn't matter. I believe FCEU should run on the Mac (OSX+), but I couldn't find a pre-compiled version of it in a quick Google search. More digging ...
Thanks for the help... ok, I was able to get this using a few different apps.... How true is it to the shape of what the player should look like? Seems pretty close to me. The only thing I wonder about is how the bat handle and the bat don't seem to line up. Is that what it really looks like and it's always just been so small that I never noticed it? LOL
What's the Vector, Victor?
I dare somebody to get an RBI player as a tattoo.
i'll get one at dee-nee fest this summer if someone gets one with me
You should know better than to dare a group that includes a guy with a Taco Bell tattoo.
I want to see it happen.

I'll do it.
nice mclane. who else is in?
If fknmclane shows up to dee-nee fest this summer, I will either get a Dee-Nee or Detroit Player tattoo...
A detroit player tattoo would be awesome.

I'm fucking there. And I'll get a Sl player. Scratch that...maybe I'll get a Poopydicks player or the red and black unis my first fantasy team had.
I think that I will get a detroit player RBI guy tattoo this summer. Good times.
Here's a pic of the fair/foul glitch
can you describe what happened? can't really tell from the pic?
the hit was called fair.
The easiest thing is to watch the video attached on post #39 of the arcade season thread, here is a series of pictures
more, not sure why the RF ump is the one making the fair call, maybe that was the problem
Would this same pic have arisen if there was a grounder to first and he threw it to the wall? Obvious it isn't but in case the conspiracy theories come out. Does the 1B up do something on a play like that?
I posted the set of 8 pics which makes it pretty clear what happened, plus anyone with VirtualNES can see the video posted in the Arcade thread.

From the first pic, it could be a throw from the 1B to the wall I guess, though the 1B would probably still be in the throwing motion.
