using desktop now instead of my old lady's laptop but when I click on chat, the border for the page shows up but in the middle of my screen its blank with a little button to click that says "float" and when clicked the button does nothing.
Try downloading and installing this:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Just downloaded and I still have the problem
I would use mIRC or some other client to connect to chatroom. No java conflicts there.
It's working fine for me, and I haven't updated Java for a few months.
rdub, what browser are you using? A lot of time, alternate browsers such as Firefox and Opera have trouble with plugins such as Java even after you have downloaded and installed the latest versions. As Gerlost said, I would recommend using mIRC or some other IRC client. To get the chat running in mIRC after installing it, enter this into your internet browser:
irc://irc.everywherechat.com/dee-nee
In mIRC you should then be connected to the everywherechat server and join the Dee-Nee channel. Make sure that you set up your nickname and everything in mIRC first, which shouldn't be too hard since the configuration options window comes up automatically the first time you run mIRC.

Uh, not really. But mIRC is nicer to use (since you don't have the overhead of Java).
Oh, yes, really sir. My god damn epic battle with shitty Opera and Firefox has just begin, they never load any of my Java applets.
That would be a problem with your JVM, not the browser. Check about:plugins to ensure it's registered correctly. If it is, it's not the browser. If it's not, you've not installed it correctly.

You win :(
Well, I wasn't insinuating that you're an idiot. Check about:plugins for a Java handler, and if you don't see one, it's usually easiest to just uninstall and reinstall Java. Also, if you're not using IE, get Sun's JVM instead of Microsoft's piece of shit.
So if you guys are so damn smart, what's the fix to the "float" issue? This crap about java not being updated or installed correctly is a scam, man.
mIRC is the answer to all of your problems :(
I don't even know what the F that means. That's how stupid I am.
http://mirc.com
It is a non browser, non Java IRC client, and it will solve all of your life's problems.
I still no get what it is.
It lets you talk in dee-nee chat without any browser or Java shenanigans. It will solve all of your life's problems.

Every time I've tried to help you, you didn't respond to my questions. You're on your own.

If I saw you lying on the side of the road hungry and in need, I would spit on you.

We're not here for you.
Damn you, Matrix. I did everything you said, but nothing worked. I just didn't want to be a pain so I dropped it.

If it is, and Java's not installed, you should be seeing a "additional plugins required to display all the content on this page" notice. Also check the URL about:plugins and see if there's anything there to handle Java.
If nothing else, grab the latest install from here (http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=22&PartDetailId=jre-1.5.0_01-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg). (use the Windows Online Installation).
I'm waiting to hear if a handler was registered for Java, as shown in about:plugins. You should see something like 7 different sections titled "Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 Update 6" or something similar.
