Clemens will likely retire, where the hell are Franco and Santiago? Franco pitched for Houston a little last year but his current whereabouts are unknown to me. As for Santiago, He played at bit with Pittsburgh last year, I thought he was on the Mets but couldn't find him on there official site on any of the rosters. So, is Julio the last RBIer still in the big leagues?
John Franco was last seen (heard) doing a horrible job for ESPN Radio during the Braves/'stros series last postseason (horrible is not relative to the rest of ESPN's announcers, because if it was relative to the rest of ESPN's announcers, who pronounce Ratislav as "Rastaslav" and refer to the "slot" as the "top of the key" on several occasions), then John Franco was practically Vin Scully)
Benito opted out of his AAA contract with the Mets but intends to play in 2006 (but he won't, although I wouldn't be surprised at all if he latches on with the Yanks)
Haven't you guys been updating this?
We've discussed it so many times, it's not worth searching for because you'll get so many hits.
Clemens will pitch in '06.
I must have just not gotten in on any of those discussions. Really, someone throw me a bone, where the hell are Santiago and Franco gonna be in 2006.

Do you not read posts or just assume that we can see into the future?
Yes, I've found it spices things up a bit in what would ultimately be am ordinary day. Telepathy is something I dabble in from time to time.
So then why don't you fucking tell us?
You gotta pay for that kind of info
I thought John Franco and Benny retired. If they play, it won't be more than a couple games played or innings pitched. Clemens is still way too good to quit. I say he and Julio will be the final 2 then Clemens will retire before Julio quits at age 50.
I have complete lists of the current RBI 2 and 3 players, I gotta go dig 'em up somewhere. New faces like Junior Griffey, Biggio, Frank Thomas, and Bonds appear for the first time on these two. Senior Griffey is also on both.
I'd have to check the 1983-1989 divisional winners from RBI 3 and check for current players. There ain't many.
Who was the first RBIer to retire?
First name in my head was Bobby Grich. BR says his last game was 10/2/1986....
Franco was still playing before Ronald Reagan even began his 2nd term as President.
I think Nolan Ryan has played through the most Presidents, it's 7 or 8 I believe.
Julio won't get much playing time this year or next, with Delgado at first. There goes his chance at 3,000 hits, I don't think he would've gotten there anyway. But he did miss a couple full seasons in the 1990s though, and I think the 2000 season, plus he was hurt almost all of 1992.
Keep eating those egg whites, Julio! Play until you're 60!
Julio's current line for the spring:
Quote Player TEAM POS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG
J Franco NYM 1B 15 26 5 10 3 0 0 6 13 6 4 0 0 .515 .500 .385
He's still got it, baby.
Cool. Maybe he will get more playing time now. Too bad the NL doesn't have a DH so Carlos Delgado could take that spot.
Like a fine wine...
Julio is the last man standing as far as I'm concerned.
Screw Clemens and his half-assed half-seasons. Roger can take as many millions as Steinbrenner dangles under his nose as he wants, he will never be a true man.
Julio plays in the off-season. He goes abroad when the MLB won't take him in. He doesn't just show up when he's damn good and ready.
Suck it, Rocket.
Not that I don't want to see any possible RBI'er still active in the majors, I just do not respect any claim of the Rocket to last surviving RBI'er if he keeps this shit up.
Onto business, Julio is basically just a figurehead among the overwhelmingly hispanic Los Metos de Yorko Nuevo and subsequently has been seeing shit for play. He's only appeared thus far as a pinch hitter, registering 3 plate appearances, but with no official at bats. This includes a sac fly, two walks, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Interestingly, on that sac fly, he also reached on an error.
There were about a dozen other threads I could have chosen from to bump.
I looked up Julio today as well and was going to post his early line. Pretty cool that his OBP is .667 and he has two runs scored with no official at bats. The man will play until he is 50, just incredible.
can a man with no legs play baseball? if yes, what would the strike zone be?
my point is that it would be great if kevin mitchell lost his legs somehow and came back to the majors
Julio continues to impress, keep on keeping on Senor Franco...

I do appreciate you choosing mine.
Long Live Julio.

Couldn't you just roll the ball to him, then?
I think you would have to have a set of rules for a player like this. I believe a stool of a certain height should be used for him to bat off of. The strike zone would be letters to the first rung of supports on the stool
If the player with no legs played in a wheel chair, it would be from the axle to the letters.

but the wheelchair couldn't be one of those electric ones, because thats just cheating.
Well, only if it was in the rules. Which could be change down the road. But if he did it before the rule was made, i wouldn't throw and asterisk on his stolen bases record.
we need to get ahold of that kid from meatballs 2

But how would he run the bases? Just fling himself off the stool as soon as he makes contact? If he starts on the ground, he can just run with his hands like the guy in "The Crippled Masters" without having to fall off a stool first.
If he can run on his fkn hands he can make the 2 foot drop from the stool. He needs to be up off the ground or he would have to learn to hit a rolling baseball. I figured this would put him in the same position to hit as a human being.
HA!
that no legged gent from that old movie freaks got around on his arms pretty well
There was a skateboard for legs homeless guy that used to hang outside of Phone Company Park a few years ago.
Couple days old, but for those who may have missed it... There's also a vid:
Franco the hero as Mets fend off Nats (http://mlb.com/news/gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20070413&content_id=1895898&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym)
Edit by Gantry: Fixed link
Actually no... The DNS servers I was using were flaky, so I linked to mlb.com instead of mlb.mlb.com, the latter of which did not work for me.
In summation - my bad
I dreamt last night that someone beaned Julio in the face.
Julio is just happy to contribute - this should be the mantra for all Dee-Nee forum members...
So the Chicago Tribune reported that Clemens will almost certainly pitch for the Astros this year barring injury or terrible minor league performances.
I hadn't read the blog rumors, but Phil Rogers is fairly well respected. I guess the Astros need to sell tickets.
I assume they are well out of the hunt?
Clemens is such a tool
Gantry, you really can't be serious that you don't know if the Astros are out of the playoff hunt?
In case you are that rock dumb: no, the Astros are still. In the hunt. If they can get Ken Camaniti back and Derek Bell starts to hit again, they'll be in great shape!
::)
