Gantry,
I was wondering if you considered altering the post requirements for the reggie jackson level, lou whitaker level, ect. Now that we have some serious posts here I think it would be a good idea if we raised the bar for some of these things. How about something like this:
1001 and more posts Reggie Jackson level
600- 1000 posts Jim Rice level
301-600 posts lou Whitaker
1-300 posts Rafeal Santana level
The post count is set in the forum software, but I think you can download mods to change this and add more levels. It would be cool to get 10 levels and increase the posts upto 2,000 or so. I'll give a look-see in a few...
I'd also like to request the lowest number of posts be changed to Al Pedrique.
His name is synonomous with poor quality and undeserved fame.
Santana is just your run of the mill shitty player.
Must be a difference of locales, but Santana is pretty much the lowest of the low over here. Except for Steve Lake...
Al Pedrique is an All-Star, putting him slightly ahead of Rafae. I'd like to make it at minimum
Rafael Santana
Danny Gladden
Denny Walling
Lou Whitaker
Chili Davis
Jim Rice
Reggie Jackson
marc sullivan should be a level somewhere...
The new levels are set! I found a way to add groups, but those are manual. So here are the new levels:
1-49 posts - Rafel Santana Level
50-99 - Danny Gladden Levl
100-199 - Denny Walling Level
200-499 - Lou Whitaker Level
500-999 - Chili Davis Level
1000-1999 - Jim Rice Level
2000+ Reggie Jackson Level
I'm willing to take suggestions on Level names. I don't particularly like Gladden/Walling because I want to levels to be a clear difference in skill. Gladden and Walling are both pretty bad...
Shit, it doesn't work quite right. I have to manually add the "Jim Rice" and "Reggie Jackson" levels, when I do the Chili Davis Level for 500+ posts stays. Need more research but I'll keep the current situation and listening to suggestions...
Wow...I'm at the chili davis level....maybe one day I'll have that jackson level again. Props Gantry on the changes. I was going to create a new account once I hit 1000...but maybe now I'll hold on to this one.
Definitely keep it, and I believe you can always rename your account. I think that's what dlvdog/jrice did...
I didn't know that I could rename the account.....awesome! hmmmm, maybe I'll make a poll for a new name....
Just call it Jim Jackson or Reggie Rice.
This is a great idea. I love it! The forum is evolving with us and should continue to do so. Yeah i don't think you can rename your account but in your profile can change your "forum name"... that is what dvldog did. not to critisize that move, but i would avoid that cause i know all you guys be a particular name and if everybody changes it gets all confusing like now how we have to say dvldog/j.rice.
i had no idea that dog changed his name too rice....
Can we rename the "Anything Forum" to "Dove's Pub" with me as a mod in that forum?
Ah shit Harris...I'm back to the frickin' Lou Whitaker level?
That sucks because HE SUCKS!
AAAAAAH! Lou Whit is the man!
I knew I liked you Glass.
Whitaker can suck my ass!! :P
I think I'll change it again... J.Rice and dvldog aren't too unique or original
ShitPaw/JRice/DvlDog is confusing the shit out of me. He's like a quick-change artist. For some reason your picture won't load on my computer.
i saw it earlier... it was a shit colored paw... but now it won't load for me either
I may just change it to an RBI guy - more traditional and less iritating
I can throw together a patch to allow you more than 5 levels of posters without dealing with custom membergroups; how many do you need?
Nightwulf
Beautiful! Was trying to traverse the php, but I quickly gave up out of ignorance...
The only concern about a hand-patch is that it might affect future updates/upgrades to yabbse. Though apparently this is the last version, as they mightrating to a new codebase. So the levels would be:
1-49 posts
50-99
100-199
200-399
400-699
700-999
1000-1499
1500-1999
2000+
Nine levels of goodness....
My suggesions:
1-49 Rafael Santana
50-99 Mookie Wilson
100-199 Kevin Bass or Wade Boggs
200-399 Lou Whitaker
400-699 Wally Joyner
700-999 Chili Davis
1000-1499 Reggie Jackson
1500-1999 Andre"Hawk" Dawson
2000+ McGwire (arcade version)
I like the list, but can't bring myself to use All-Stars or put anyone above Reggie Jackson. Mookie Wilson is a good one though...
Rice above Davis is fine, but the key is to use clear levels between players. You want the next level to be definitely better than the player below. Rice and Baylor are too close in ability...
Actually now that I look, Joyner and Chili are close as well. This is very tough...

I suggest to include Rice and Baylor
I would put Baylor between Chilli and Reggie
Baylor or Rice, either is fine. So lets do a rough draft
1-49 - Rafael Santana
50-99 - Mookie Wilson or Dan Gladden
100-199 - Kevin Bass or Wade Boggs
200-399 -
400-699 - Lou Whitaker
700-999 -
1000-1499 - Chili Davis
1500-1999 - Baylor or Rice
2000+ Potatoes
So what we needs is a player that is clearly between Bass/Whitaker and Whitaker/Davis. Let hear them....
Can we get a Jesse Orosco level?
700-999 - Gaetti?
200-300 - McGee?
I was thinking McGee too, Gaetti is a good one. So to space out the teams, we have:
1-49 - Santana
50-99 - Gladden
100-199 - Walling
200-399 - McGee
400-699 - Whitaker
700-999 - Gaetti
1000-1499 - Davis
1500-1999 - Rice
2000+ - Jackson
Nine levels, all 8 teams represented...
1-49 - Rafael Santana
50-99 - Mookie Wilson or Dan Gladden (I vote Mookie, since Gladden is faster)
100-199 - Kevin Bass or Wade Boggs (I vote Bass, since Boggs is a real life HOF)
200-399 - Pendleton/Grich/Puckett (in that order)
400-699 - Lou Whitaker
700-999 - Glenn Davis/Downing/Joyner/Leonard
1000-1499 - Chili Davis
1500-1999 - Baylor or Rice (Baylor = more power & more speed [136!])
2000+ Potatoes
IMHO
I like the representation of the 8 teams.

Yeah, they've been allegedly starting fresh with YabbSE2 for a while though, don't bet on it. Either way, it's not terribly difficult to rewrite a patch for a new version. Made several changes to the PSOZ boards and kept up with 'em.
I'll grab a new copy of 1.5.4 and start playing with it. Gimme a day or two ...
Nightwulf
Strike that; did some snooping at the yabbse site and maybe they finally are going to introduce yabbse2 (as SMF). It looks similar enough; I'm sure it can be modified as well.
Anyway, I finished the patches. Check your PMs if you haven't already, Gantry.
Nightwulf
I cant believe that Darrell Evans isn't represented here.
He's got to be next to Reggie.
VGP....is that bruce campell as your avatar?
Yes it is. I was going through the avitars and saw Bruce--I decided to go with a couple of Evil Dead 2 quotes.
what do you guys think about making the levels equal the number of hits an RBI'r got during his career? a quick baseball-reference.com search should turn up some stuff... can we find someone with so few at-bats though?
Teddy, you wouldn't even be Raphael Santana.
TeddyBGame, I would go with career homers since RBI is such a power-hitting game... I think that would still leave Reggie on top.
Mark McGwire actually has the most.
Are we including All-Stars in it now? :)
The new groups are set! Thanks for nightwulf for editing up the php and database changes needed. A little problems with my extra groups mod, but it all seems solid now. The groups:
1-49 - Santana
50-99 - Gladden
100-199 - Walling
200-399 - McGee
400-699 - Whitaker
700-999 - Gaetti
1000-1499 - Davis
1500-1999 - Rice
2000+ - Jackson
Errr, maybe not... Looks like we have the new groups in the center but the posts are checking the old levels. Give me a few...
All fixed!
