Title: Editing Pitch speeds
Post by: clyon81 on 03/28/06, 02:56:00 AM
I was going to try and do this under the radar, and suprise you all,but seeing as im frustrated, i'll ask for help anyway...

Is there an easy way to equate pitch speeds with pitch ratings in nightwulfs editor? When I make 2k3, i didnt have an accurate measure for pitch speeds, and I got some complains, but this time around, i have it to the exact mph, but how do i translate 97 mph into the numbered rating?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And, hello again  ;)

Nightwulf toyed with the idea of making the RBI Editor have pitch speeds instead of typing in ratings; in the end, he decided it was too unwieldy.  However, he still has the sample page up, which you can use to check your ratings:

You're the creator of the previous modern RBI roms?  You are my hero.

We tried making a rom during last postseason with the eight playoff teams, but it ultimately fell through.  Lemme see if I can bump it in case it's any help to you.

Also, hello.

So, by "fell through", you mean "completed"?

Precisely.

Not all of the modern roms, but I was responsible for creating the RBI2k3 roms that consisted of 30 teams.

I kind of wanted to keep my new project under wraps, because I announced a 2k4 version, and had some personal issues at the time and did not complete it.

I will officially announce the release of my new project when it gets closer to completion. I have between 12-20 hours already invested, and I would guess Im 45% finished.  I dont want to sound overconfident by saying this, but I will venture to say this will be the best custom rbi rom project ever.

I'll keep you posted...

Holy shit, where've you been ?!

I completely forgot about that editor page with the pitch speeds. It's not impossible, I just lost track of it.

There's also a thread here (http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?topic=2807.0) that explains the algorithm and Dryden posted a table which lists the speed possibility for every rating.

Ive been around, just been busy with other stuff I guess. It's that time of year again, looking forward to baseball, so I thought I'd get back to work....

NWulf, you have really done great things with your editor since I used it last. This time around has been much more enjoyable then last time when I had to change the graphics manually.

Maybe instead of changing the ratings to show pitching in the editor, you could just add a drop down list in the "explanation" part of the pitcher editing page?

Also, Im not sure if there is a way to do this, but lets say I want to mix and match the teams this year, but I dont want to have to go through and retype out all the stats to make 9 roms so each team plays each. Is there anyway possible to just be able to upload certin teams so I can mix/match divisional roms.

I dont know how hard this all would be, but just thought id bring them up.

Thanks,

Chet

i'd be willing to design the logos for each team on the "pick team" menu, if you're interested.

edit:  like so...

Yeah, that's a possibility. I've been intending to "de-ugly" the editor for like over a year now, but it's hard to find that kind of time.

Actually, another Dee-Nee'er who pops in once in a while (cafetero) was working on his own editor that did just that, but I haven't heard from him in quite a while. If nothing else, you're welcome to send me any ROMs with instructions on how to combine them. Or, if you're Perl-savvy, I can throw a script together to handle it.

I just took a short class of Dee-Nee history.  The zitb6 thread was very informative.

It's been awhile, and I had forgotten about that little incident. In retrospect, I should have not gotten so upset about the criticism of the work I did. I guess I was just a little edgy because of all the time I put in on the project. Most RBIers liked it enough to play it, and tell me they enjoyed it, so that should have been enough for me.  I shouldnt have taken it personal. It seems kind of silly now.

I don't want to start any new, or rehash old arguments, I just want to create some kick-ass roms so all the hardcore RBIers have something fun and fresh to play.

I apologize if I offended anybody...

Chet
