Figured I'd start a new thread about things that need to be done on the server for today. Here is the tentative list:
1) Upgrade forums to SMF 1.1 RC2
2) Upgrade RBIdb to Mediwiki 1.5.x branch
3) Get clyon access to the site again for RBI 2006
4) Upgrade php to fix new security flaws
5) Add Mediawiki spam modules
Nightwulf - you have time to work on tonight? I'd likely leave SMF up to you while I upgrade the wiki software on RBIdb.
PS - The mem=384M line worked like a charm, thanks! Hopefully the OOM errors will stop...
what sort of new goodies will come with the upgrade?
still says RC1 at the bottom...

It hasn't been updated yet.
The only thing I've done so far is fix the stupid memory issue. The forum upgrade would take place at 11pm tonight, as it makes database changes that could keep things down for an hour. Once the forums are back up, I would update php and the RBIdb...
The best new goodie that I've seen is edit-in-place. I'm sure there's others, but I haven't toyed with the software myself yet. Still a good idea to upgrade, as there's always security closures.
You think 11pm is good to take the forums down? I was thinking more like 2am or so. Ideally would be 4 or 5am, but I can't do that shit tonight.

There's an RBI database?
2am is too late for me, as I got next to no sleep last night and have an early day. We'll do midnight, sound good?
I think I'm going to upgrade php from 4.3.11 to 4.4.2 right now. Hopefully the forums won't crash and burn during this...
what's this "edit-in-place"?
Test php 4.4.2, are we up?

From the release post (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=62731.0):
Some of the other notable changes in this release are:
* AJAX editing
o Edit a post without page reloads
o Double click to edit topic subjects on message index (Need quick moderation enabled)
* Added new search features including
o Search within a topic
o Search within personal messages
o Search participation levels are now shown
o A new feature to create a custom index for searching messages, and more.
* Most Online Today and Most Online Ever has been added to the Info Center.
Nightwulf, we should probably make a list of features that we hand-edited in to make sure we keep a copy and adjust the proper source.
* Chat button
* Bolded topics in the thread view
* Attachment 800x600 resizing
* Replace the default SMF logo with the Dee-Nee logo
Am I missing anything else?
if for some reason something goes wrong and this spells the end of dee-nee, then i will sorely miss you guys.
I think I'm going to push the upgrade back to midnight, as there is quite a bit of activity on the forums. Plus I haven't seen much of nightwulf and I'm hoping he'll be around to keep an eye on things in case the conversion takes hours...
Front page update done, link to clyon81 new ROMs
Bah, I missed the time change to midnight. Add "replace the default SMF logo with the Dee-Nee logo" and I think we're good.
Back to watching Newsradio. Picked up the season 1&2 DVD for 17 bucks! Back in an hour ...

Added.... I'm goign to leave the SMF upgrade to you, as upgrade.php will apparently do a statusbar for the long coversion process. I don't think I'm goign to make it past 1-1:30am or so tonight to keep track...
Going to backup all the databases now, see ya at midnight. I'll join chat at 11:45 or so. When the clock strikes midnight, forums and RBIdb will go DOWN...
PS - You probably saw, but there is a post-RC2 upgrade as well. Looks like the proper procedure it to upgrade.php to RC2 and use the update manager in admin to do RC2-1
Wumpst is dead, but I"m in chat...
We're back! Test post...

I had a few issues when upgrading from 4.3.11 to 4.4.2, but I was able to get them ironed out. Nothing too difficult.
I'm beta testing on 5.1 with the software we're using for the new site to make sure the transition to 5.X in the future will be smooth sailing. There's a LOT of differences, but for the most part, seems ok. One cool thing about 5.X is the object oriented scripting.
MySQL 5.X is kinda nice too... with the stored procedures and whatnot.
can someone explain in plain english what the hell you guys are talking about?
Thanks,
Mr. Retard
Chat light is flashing...Yet i am not in chat.

Since the SMF (forum) software does 99.9% of the php code and DB work, I'm sticking with MySQL 3.23 since it "ain't broke" - ditto with php. I only do php upgrades because the version of RedHat I'm using was very slow to fix a security update, so I hand-compiled a new version awhile back. So periodically I compile a new one when security updates come into play. Much to nightwulf's chagrin, I've become an rpm (precompiled packages) whore and prefer to let Redhat release the updates.
The hardware for dee-nee is a bit slow and we pretty much max out RAM (384MB) right now, so a new server will come at some point. I'm just lazy and there isn't a pressing need yet. If I found out that SMF would run quicker and with less memory under php/mysql 5, then I'd compile. But for now everything is chugging along nicely...
EDIT - Quick edit fkn rules!
I think it also puts the choice that you voted for in a poll in bold.
Ah, good catch! It certainly does...

which RedHat distro are you using? I've used 7.2(i think), 9.0 and now i'm using RHEL (AS) that I found on bittorrent. It's pretty sweet... kinda like Fedora but a lot better.
Dee-Nee runs on RedHat 7.3, which is probably close to 5 years since the original install. Thus, finding updated packages for it is pretty much nonexistant, hence the need to sometimes compile. Until there is a compelling reason to upgrade, however, it'll likely stay...
If I were to upgrade tomorrow, it would be running CentOS 4.x (http://www.centos.org), which is a free, binary perfect version of RHEL 4.
One day I will storm the Dee-Nee office, guns blazing, and install Slackware.
