Gantry maybe you can help. Why is forum time 20 minutes slow? Or do I just live in a world that is 20 minutes ahead of yours? Can you fix this problem or do we need a flux capacitor to do it?
How's that? It's they system time on my computer at work. Unfortunately it'll be slow on the next reboot, unless I remember to change it in the BIOS...
Why do you need to change it in BIOS?
Nightwulf
Most PCs won't keep the time if you change it in software. Next reboot the time goes back to the BIOS clock. At least this is true for Unix & Netware machines...
If your linux distro doesn't save the time to the hardware clock on shutdown, your linux distro is broken. :P

Hmm, the info/man page says it does, but I know I've set the date before to no avail on reboots. RH 7.3, though the mobo is a bit flaky at times. Not sure if it goes right to the clock or via the BIOS. If via the BIOS, it's probably my mobo...
Also had this issue on RH 6.1 on a HP Netserver...
Gantry, do you run this site out of your work? Where do you work that allows this madness?
Family business baby! I handle most of the machines at work, it doesn't affect them in any way. It literally is my PC at work, nothing fancy. Hand-built PCs using discarded parts from customer/broken machines...
Gotta love the family. I start work for my dad pretty soon. Just gotta pass the damn Series 3 and then I'll start making some money. :) No more Home Depot.
Series 3?
Its for commodities trading. Crude oil, gold silver, etc. Think Trading Places.
"Looking good Lewis... Feeling good Lewis"
Think I screwed that line up...
McLane, would you be a commodities trader or broker?
This summer, I got a call from a company interested in me becoming a broker specializing in commodities.
If this is what you would do, do you know if they usually start you in straight commision, or salary plus commission?
Broker, mostly. My pops has been doing it for years and has all kinds of programs set up. The minimum program is a $50,000 investment and the big dog is $250,000. They give us money, we give more back. I'm sure I'll end up doing some trading on the side, though. That's just after I get somewhat good. I'll mostly be doing bitch work for the first few months. Phone calls, paperwork, etc.
They're usually gonna start you on a combo salary and commission but the salary will be so minute that commission is key. What firm?
What do you do now?
I work in marketing for a mutual funds company. I also handle our shareholders retirement plans. It's a small company--so I'mvolved in most of everything here.
I can't remember the name of the company off hand--I'll get back with you on that.
My only problem with starting with that low a salary is I couldn't afford to pay rent while I get off the ground.

I am convinced that you are not a real person but a creation that was forged inside the information superhighway. You are the matrix of some sort of "Ghost in the Shell".
I think i'm real. :-\

Don't we all...
Nice work fixing the clock Gantry. Now I can stop being paranoid about what happened during that 20 minutes of time that my life just lapsed.
VGP, you don't know what company you work for? Nicely done.
You were referring to the commodities company, right?
I work for CGM Funds.
