Title: Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?
Post by: Gantry on 01/06/04, 03:28:32 PM
If so, how do you handle the subs?  Just curious...

Grich gets 1 pitch. That's it. If it's a homerun--he gets one more.
Boone can stay in until he's up at a crucial point in the game.

Grich never sees a pitch.

I always used to sub for Boone but he stays now due to a couple unfortunate events:
1. My cousin hit 4 HR's against me in a game with Boone.
2. Another time I took him out after going 2 for 2 b/c I thought I needed some more pop off the bench.  My friends informed me that the RBI gods would make me pay b/c that's no way to treat someone who had just been canned by the Reds the day before.  I told them to fuck off and subbed anyway and subsequently watched a 12-3 lead turn into a 14-13 loss.
Moral of the story: Don't fuck with Bob Boone.

I prefer not to use Califorinia.... but I would sub for both of them... Boon and Grich

Out of Dave Henderson, Ellis Burks and Tony Armas,.....   Which 2 of the three  do u sub into the Linup at the start of the game and who do u leave to pinch hit later?
Title: Re:Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?
Post by: Gantry on 01/06/04, 04:05:12 PM
I use them all.  Armas at #1, Burks at #2 and Hendu at #8

That leave no one good to pinch hit with though...  Thats why I leave armas on the bench....

pete - you cant manage your bench anyways
Title: Re:Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?
Post by: Baines on 01/06/04, 04:11:51 PM
I go with Burks at #1 and Armas at #8.  Then I give Buckner, Boggs and Gedman an AB or 2 to decide who pisses me off the worst and gets yanked for Hendu.

Yeah Maybe.. But who is the current RBI Champ???
Title: Re:Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?

I'll almost always play it by ear, sometimes they each(Boone, Grich) get 1 AB, depends on the game

As for Boston:

Always Burks #1 Armas #8, save Henderson for when needed,
once in a blue moon I'll let Barret or Owen bat

Grich or Boone NEVER SEE A FUCKING PITCH!!!!

For the Sox, Burks leads off, Hendu bats second and Armas is my power anchor at 8 (although GlassJoe would walk him to get to the pitcher.)

Yeah    Boone knocked one out for me tonight...

Oh and Boston you bat Burks at 1, Hendu at 2, and Armas at 8...

But that topic can be a Powder Keg over here sometimes...

For some reason I like Armas in the leadoff spot.  I simply don't like him up with runners on, he's way too double-play prone.  When you think about it, Armas really isn't that good considering his 918 power rating.  Way too inconsistent, give me Burks...

QuoteOh and Boston you bat Burks at 1, Hendu at 2, and Armas at 3...

You telling me you leave Spike Owen in the game?  You sir are crazy...

My Bo Lineup
Burks
Henderson
Boggs
J.Rice
Baylor
Evans
Gedman

EDIT: Gantry beat me to the Owen comment

Gantry, good point on Armas.  He is kinda overrated, especially after the espn feature.  Plus he has the slow, righty double play factor.  There's probably nothing I hate more in RBI than a double play.  I get suicidal.

The best part about playing Armas is that I have gotten him on the "groundball to the 3rd baseman, who beats you to first" play.  So beautiful...

I've seen that twice in a game......unfortunately  I was controlling Armas, and Shitbag Briznock was the opposing player

Never seen it.

It's very rare, done it about 6-7 times.  Only once against someone not named Armas...

You're a fucking genius Mclane....I use the same approach, and it seems to work pretty damn well.  California's bench is way too good to not use, and who better to take out of a game than Grich and Boone....and Pettis.  He sucks.

Grich always gets taken out for hendrick, but boone stays in.  People always tell me to take him out in the beginning of the  game but he seems to come up clutch in the end.  As for Boston i put armas at number 1 and burks a number 8.

You bat Rupperto at leadoff then?
Title: Re:Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?
Post by: fknmclane on 01/08/04, 01:12:20 AM
Ruppert has got to be 6.  He was born to dominate the 6-hole.

I keep both in to start the game but i always have grich on probation. sometimes hell step up in the clutch for me, but most of the time its a routine grounder to thrid to end the inning. Most of the time i have Jones come in because of his homers and he is another lefty in the lineup. Boone stays in only because i know that he will get it done, and im one huge reds fan who believes he was outsed on bad judgement.

Speaking of Boone--anyone want his home phone number?
I got a list of sports phone numbers today. Most are not working, but his wife--Sue answered.

Let's call him up Reg!

"It's Bob Boone today at the ballpark."

Rupert is in the #1 slot, he has to get in the game, he is one of our highest ranked players.

How different we all are..  Wilfong is definitely my leadoff guy.   Rupperto is the top bench man in the game, but the 6 spot is his home....

I said it before, I'll say it again.  Rupert was born to hit sixth on RBI.  That's his purpose on this planet.

Not too long ago I left Bob Boone in because he was just fired from the Reds and he hit 4 HRs that day.....to the amazement of all that witnessed it.

I can safely say I've never gotten 4 dingers with Boone.  I'm pretty sure I've never gotten two, well done!
Title: Re:Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?

I've never hit it out of the infield with Boone.

Unfortunately, I was on the receiving end of Boone's offensive explosion.

I've left him in ever since and had pretty good results.

Hmm...  Boone's power rating is actually higher than Wilfongs.  I'll give him a few games and lets see what he does...

Don't do it Boone will only lead to double-play madness.
Title: Re:Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?

That's true, but Hendrick is no picnic either with the grounders.  It would be good to mix it up, I've played the same lineup with Cali for about 7 years now.  Lets see how they do with two bench guys and a weaker #8 hitter.  Should be interesting...
Title: Re:Does anyone keep Grich or Boone in?
Post by: fknmclane on 01/15/04, 01:38:00 AM
You gotta mix it up every once in while.  I fucking lost to SF even though I was AL all-stars.  Totally ridiculous.  I hate the fucking AL ass-stars.  Weak hitters.  Bunch of pussies.

I'm starting to question everything I ever believed about this game beacuse I get abused so much by people who should never get an AB.

I damn near lost to Spike_Owen#1 last night (won 19-17 Mn over Ca) when he hit a granny with Grich.  He leaves in the starters 90% of the time and has this uncanny bullshit luck with them.  Hell that's where he got his username after hitting a wallzie with Spike against me.

Fucking Uribe killed me last night.  I'm pretty sure he hit for the cycle, stole a couple of bases (how, I don't know,) and knocked in three runs.  Unbelievable.
