Title: Player most prone to ground into double plays...
Post by: pedriqrules on 05/07/02, 07:30:35 AM
Nothing is more frustrating than grounding into a double play.  And it seems, for me at least, that for certain players it is almost a foregone conclusion that they will ground into a double play when a runner is on first.  Here are my top five players most likely to groud into a double play

1.  Daryl Evans, Detriot.  This guy has decent pop, but grounds into so many double plays it sickens me.  One game, he grounded into four double plays for me.  He also so slow that he's one of the only players in RBI baseball where it is possible to perform the dreaded Rightfielder-to-firstbase groundout.

2.  Tony Armas, Boston.  Pretty much any type of grounder results in a dp with armas.

3.  Jack Clark.  Very frustrating whenever clark grounds into a dp, because he is really the only source of offense for st. louis

4.  Santiago, nl all stars.  My personal most hated player in the game.  I sub guerrero for him every time.

5.  Gary Carter, Mets.  He really isn't too good, although he probably has the best arm in the game.

all those guys are likely to ground into the twin killing...  others who roll into double plays more often than they should are:
gaetti, downing, maldonado, and kirby puckett.

There could be one of the most glaring differences between curve and straight, because I would list about 30 righties before a single lefty...

1)  Brian Downing
2)  Bill Madlock
3)  Rich Gedman
4)  George Hendrick
5)  Geena Davis

The 2-3-4 hitters on San Fran top the group race...

the teams loaded with righties always present a problem when it comes to bouncing into double plays...
boston has rice, baylor, evans, gedman all in a row.
minnesota has puckett,...,burnzky, gagne(if you leave him in),  and laudner.
frisco, well, they dont hit for me so i dont hit into double plays with them cause that would require a base runner...  the giants are my least favorite team.

Pretty much any righty will ground into many double plays, escpecially straight pitch, when you always put it on the corner you have to try to pull it, so you get many groundballs to short.

Laudner is on the top of my head, just got done playing with Mn, he must have done it 3 times.

Also to note grounding out to RF occurs a lot in straight pitch. It happens at least once a game.

The ground out to RF is a big play in straight pitch, you have to keep your fielders ready when you have slow lefty batters with a runner on first...

I really need to get Jack Clark on my DP list, I'll put him at the five spot over Geena...

I am really hating the straight pitch game, I have lost 3 of the last 4, all on walk-off homers, so frusterating.

But that is all they will play, so I'm off for more. OUT!!

pines... you've always been a glutton for punishment.  which style of straight pitch are you playing?  the one where you can locate on the plate or the one where you just press A.

I think same as Gantry and the Dee-Nee Crew, move pitcher, but cant curve the ball.

Oh and the slow ball(Up and A) can never be thrown.

I'll probably get my ass handed to me when I get home and play curves again.

righies have such a disadvantage...they dont have the benefit of the leftie hit....but id say that all the slow running oafs (laudner, armas, jack clark, gedman) they all run into the problems there....i have to disagree and say that mr six (d evans) is one of the most clutch hitters in the game...rarely does he ground into DPs

bban,  when you say d evans... you have to be more specific.  if you  are referring to dwight... i agree...  darrell evans doesnt play well for me...  he is good for two dp's a game.

Darrell Evans rarely hits into double plays for us.  He gets many groundouts to the right fielder, but his DPs are usually the result of a bad swing or the first baseman nabs the grounder deep in the hole.  He is a bit more prone than most lefties, but he's no righty...

And we play slowballs with less than two strikes...
