Is now the oldest player in the history of baseball to hit a home run.
Opposite field in Petco, no less.
how many pitches was Peavy up to? Why did they pull him
Peavy was under 100, but was pinch hit for with the bases loaded and no outs in the 8th, Pads come up empty, but no big deal because Linebrink and Hoffman only need to get 6 outs.
Nope, maybe they should have just let Peavy taken a strike out, and not pinch hit for Dave Roberts?
YES!
God bless you Julio.
I waited the final two months of last season to see this, but it never happened.
Glad to know that man finally squeezed it in. God fucking bless him. And he does love god, and Jesus too.
Also, opposite field should be a given.
That should make him 2/7 now. He has only appeared this season as a PH. Think his 2006 baseball cards will reflect this?
How can you not like Julio? And I don't think anyone really believes he's actually 48. I'm sure he's really in his 50's.
The guy who caught the ball traded it for a bat. I wish he would have asked Julio to sign a copy of RBI Baseball.

and then asked him why he is so bad in the game
...that too
Give Julio a break. Unbeknownst to us, but knownst to him and the RBI programmers, he was still a good 15 - 20 years away from his "prime." He was just a pup in RBI.
He got a decent ovation when he came to bat in the 8th, which I found surprising considerng it was a one run game with a guy on second and only one out.

Is Julio Franco a HOFer?
nate and i were debating that last night. we think he will be.
nacho, how is it that you are coming to chicago and saturday and didn't tell us? we found out from payne...for shame.
AS much as I like Julio, there's no way in hell he's a Hall of Famer.

Am I missing something here?
edit I'm keeping my post up. Fuck it. Everyone already knows I'm a complete and utter retard. A little reinforcement never hurts.
Did you think he was 357 years old?
In drunk mclane land, there are only 355 days in a year.

I was literally only there for about 4 hours. I presented a paper at a Political Science conference, had a beer at the hotel bar (where the conference was held) and left. I suppose I coulda stayed and called you guys, but I pulled a Sally and came back right away.
Julio just knocked in two runs with a base hit then stole second.
Oldest player to steal a base?
no. The oldest is 49 in 1909.
I'm sure the catcher isn't going to live that one down for awhile...
Batting a solid .400, sweet.
I think Julio holds the record for oldest to steal 3rd, and possibly oldest to steal two bases in one game.
I wonder if Julio is regretting this arrangement with the Mets now though. You know the guy loves to play ball, but getting a pinch hit every other game is probably not what he expected, especially not after being the starting first baseman for Atlanta for a third of the time last season. Is Delgado injury prone? Maybe Julio will yet get a chance to show off the leather...
My Dee-Nee should raise funds to take Delgado out, Anna Benson might contibute some
Pretty soon it is rumored that Franco may be the oldest person to live...
Julio got his second start of the season today, going 2-4 with a walk to bring his average up to an even .300.
This behind Tom Glavine, who incidentally gets his 8th win of the season.
I wish they were still on the Braves.
Also, the Mets traded away Jorge Julio so it won't confuse the fuck out of me for a second looking at the box score anymore.
Update:
El Generalisimo is up to a staggering .349 batting average, having hit safely in 4 of his last 5 pinch hit appearences. This has also brought his career batting average back up to an even .300, incidentally.
.349? What a fucking stallion...
1-4, 1 run, 1 rbi, and he stole third.
His average has now dipped to .333
Julio is a base-stealing master...
Stole third? What a fucking stallion!
Is there anything he can't do?!

yes...be good in RBI
d'oh!
Starting at 1B tonight, oldest MLBer involved in a 8-4-3 DP? possibly
Jewels is a doubles machine. Six of his last seven hits have been two-baggers. Finally saw a ton of play (relatively) during interleague, although I would be surprised if he got many more starts the rest of the season.
Julio's average has dipped to .273 and he's been whiffing a LOT, but he's still holding strong. Got the start against his former team (Atl.) yesterday and went 2 for 3 with a walk. Unfortunately I did not watch/see the game, so I don't know if he was received as well by the fans as he was before, but I assume they still love him.
And another notch in his belt, Julio Franco becomes the oldest player to be subbed in as a pinch runner for Delgado today. At least I am assuming no one older has ever done this. Could be wrong.
Oh yeah, he also promptly stole second after being subbed in. That's the most important part.

I assume this stolen base broke his own record for the oldest man to steal a base?
Julio drew the largest crowd in Braves history upon his return, slightly edging out Hank Aaron's number 715 crowd.
he had an rbi single last night
Now that the Mets have clinched, Julio is getting a start today...
...
...
At third base...
....
...
For the first time since 1982.
C'mon Julio, you gotta make that postseason roster...
