Title: Do radio announcers count for WATN?
Post by: BeefMaster on 01/07/04, 10:17:16 AM
I think I may have posted this awhile ago, but it was during a period when Gantry wasn't doing much site updating, so I don't know whether it was ignored or simply doesn't qualify for the site.  Dan Gladden works as the radio color man for Twins away games (Herb Carneal, the play-by-play guy who's been there for 40 years, doesn't travel anymore, so the home color man does play-by-play for away games).  When Gladden went to Sturgis last year for the motorcycle rally, Gene Larkin was his substitute.  Kirby Puckett has also subbed for Gladden, and I think Kent Hrbek has, too, although I'm not positive.

Completely irrelevant side story: I was at a Twins game a few years ago in which Kent Hrbek and Jesse Ventura (when he was governor) sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" together for the seventh-inning stretch.  It was horrible.

Here's a problem / question on another side note. Who actually likes / sings "Take me out to the Ballgame"?
I'm not 7 anymore--why should I sing some fucking kids song?
Does anyone want to know why baseball lags behind football in popularity--it's not Pete Rose--it is that you feel like a pussy when you go to a game with all that kiddie shit.

Other stupid baseball stuff---the wave--woo hoo --look at me! Lets stand up and make that pretty wave thing! End the wave--it's fucking stupid. Just sit the fuck down and watch the damn game.

Grown men bringing gloves to the game: Be a fucking man and catch it with your hands. If you can't, move out of the way so someone with balls can catch it.

Passing a beach ball around: Sounds like a good time to me--Knock it the fuck off! Save it for the fucking beach. Better yet--save it for the kids.

I think that's it for now.

All that shit is annoying for grown men at a game, but it promotes a family environment, which brings fans for the next 20 years.

"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is about some high-maintenace twat who wants her man to buy her shit - I guess that has evolved to become the bratty anthem of kiddy baseball fans.

That said, I hate kids and think they shouldn't be allowed into games -- neither should gloves.  All of those pussies who have reached out onto the field of play wouldn't have done so without a glove.  You want a free ball?... Stick your bare hand out and quit being a walking vagina.

"Quit being a walking vagina" is the phrase of the day.

Gladden has been added, must have missed that one Beef...

I have Blyleven as an announcer for Minnesota as well, is that still accurate?

A couple years ago when the DBacks got swept by the Cards in the first round my buddy and I had outfield seats for Game 3.  We went real early, had a few beers and then watched BP.

Andy Benes was on the Cards at the time and used to be a DBack, our first pick in the expansion draft if I'm not mistaken (hmmmm, Daryl Kile or Andy Benes - I'll take fat, whiny bitches for 200, Alex.)

Anyway, this douchebag pussy motherfucker wearing all this Cardinal gear and wearing his little glove yells out to Benes (who is playing long toss right in front of us,) "Hey Andy, glad to have you back!"  Needless to say, the 10 year old in front of me was immediately covered in regurgitated Miller Lite.

I'm still on probation from my assault and battery conviction.  They never would have gotten it if the beating wasn't broadcast on the damn Jumbotron.

Yeah, Blyleven's still working as the TV analyst.  He'll actually be here in Rochester next week for "TwinsFest"... I may have to see about getting a ticket.  A picture with or autograph from an RBI legend would be pretty cool.
