My worst RBI moment HAS to be the second the game was handed to me as a kid.  Yep that is it.  oh yeah and the billy hacther 2 homer game was bad too.  And the time Jimmy Key took me deep.  In fact Im going to rank them......

Worst RBI moments for Briznock
#1. Receiving the stupid game as a present from parents.  Its haunted my life ever since.
t-#2 Every moment after getting RBI that involved RBI

Least worst moment ever... yet to happen.
This would be the final working copy of the game being destroyed.... In fact i can see a movie script in the future
Lord of the RBI's.  YES!!!!  Ill make millions.  If this works out maybe I can forgive my precious RBI Baseball....

I shouldnt admit this but I have given up a homer to Ozzie. That is very very sad day though. I will not mention who it was but he is on here and he knows who he is and he has lost to Houston with National.

I once blew an 8 run lead in the ninth inning.  2 fielding errors in the same inning killed me  >:(

Reg, I think it's about time we play some more RBI so I can go on another weekend long scoring binge with the St. Louis Fighting Jim Lindemans.

Did I really lose to Houston with the NL? Was I driniking box wine heavily?

Seriously, the worst RBI moment I've had was when I thought I had the tourney wrapped up after beating Payton 30-24. Then you beat me 4-2 in the biggest pitchers duel in the history of straight pitch.

That game easily made the bars of downtown Portsmouth an extra $50 that night.

Mr.Baines,
this i believe was a night full of drinking, not box wine though, i believe it was a night of beer. Hey we should host a RBI tourney in P-Town, Im sure we can rent out the life center to do so. That'd be wonderful
Then we'd all go on a friendly trip to Wyncote, PA. To visit the RBI Mecca (Reginald Martinez Jackson's Birth Place!!)

My worst moment in rbi was losing the atari title to my friend jeff.  I had only lost like 2 games to him and when he wins he really likes to rub it in. But right after i beat my brother for the undisputed title so it was ok.

My worst RBI moment is every moment that I am not simultaneously drinking and playing the game.  Basically if I am in heaven than Briznock is in hell and vice versa.  Drunken dee-nee!  (hope you guys know that by placing the ! after dee-nee it indicates no only that I'm making the sound outloud as I type but also that I'm stabbing my free hand into the air in a fist of defiance.)

I don't remember most of my worst RBI moments and I'd prefer to keep it that way....

Losing to Lips in the finals this year was a tough one to swallow.  Especially since I lost first pick thanks to Potsie throwing the controller and resetting the game, thus giving lips a slaughter and the tiebreaker...

So my worst rbi moment is potsie throwing the controller.  Sad...

Y'know.....My worst moment is every game I played tonight.....

A great player rarely remembers his big wins, but knows exactly what went down on his worst beats...

Being undefeated in all series matchups leading up to the championship series in both COTUTs.  Then losing two back-to-back series in both championship series.  I'm cursed with 2nd place for the rest of my life.

When we play the drinkin game, every time there is a homerun you get to pour a bit of whatever your drinking into this giant stein. And it keeps getting more full throughout the night with beer, tequilla, rum, you name it. And if anyone gives up a homer into the black hole in center field you have to drink it. We once went two weeks without a homer into the black hole and the stein was in the fridge the entire time until I gave one up and had to drink it. Got totally F'd up, but puked later that night. Kinda sucked.

That's pretty gross...  Mixtures of beers are bad enough, but weeks worth and hard liquor?  Geez...

I've been known to mix some pretty disgusting shit but I think that would have done me in.  I don't think it's what was mixed as much as the fact that it sat for 2 weeks.  At least it was in the fridge and not warm.

I don't know that I can remember and terrible RBI moments.  I'm usually too hammered to recollect anything from the night before.

I just had quite possibly my worst RBI moment... I'm Bos vs. NY bottom of the 14th.  My roommate gets 1st and 3rd, one out, I intentionally walk Keith to bring up Carter.  Go 3-1 on him then strike him out.  Straw then hits a huge popup right to my pitcher, I didn't even have to move him.  It should have ended the inning but of course he BOPed it.  Game over.

Post by: Glassjoe on 02/09/04, 10:55:00 AM
Why the F would anybody every intentionally walk "I'm Keith Hernandez" to get to Carter, when the double play is already set up???

In my opinion, you deserved to lose and the game of RBI was telling you so.
Title: Re:Worst RBI Moments....
Post by: RockRaines4life on 02/09/04, 12:29:17 PM
Valid question, I had two reasons for doing so:
1) I had a lefty on the mound, and prefer facing batters of the opposite hand so I can use the outside corner better
2) Righties hit into way more double plays in my experience.
Plus although Carter is much more likely to hit a HR I don't know that he's that much more likely to get a basehit than Keith, and in this situation any hit would win the game.

Rock...I begrudenly accept your testimony.  I personally would still go after Keith in that situation, but you have restored my faith in your ability as a playa.

Tony Pena.....That's all I can say.  It's too painful to talk about.  Let FknMclane tell the story.

Tony F'n Pena

Post by: fknmclane on 02/10/04, 12:30:11 AM
I think every time I have Pena up against Chubbs is his worst RBI moment.  He starts sweating profusely and mumbling to himself.  His asshole probably tightens up for all I know.

Anyway, we were playing a 5 game series, me St Louis, him NL.  I took him to game 5 and Pena was up in the bottom of the ninth with the game on the line.  Homer, game over.  Boo ya!
Title: Re:Worst RBI Moments....
Post by: Baines on 02/10/04, 12:59:53 AM
I love Tony Pena.  He's always been clutch for me.  The only problem is that he never hits any bombs for me, just a lot of WTP.  He's always good for that double that you think is a homerun but looks like it bounces out of the first row.

I agree with Gantry's take on the 8 spot when playing with StL:

"This position is strictly a matter of taste. Many keep Tony Pena is because of his pseudo-power, but I feel he is too slow."
Time for Lindy...
Title: Re:Worst RBI Moments....
Post by: SeitzerorFranco on 02/10/04, 10:42:50 AM
I agree with Gantry too on this one. Although TP does have occasional power, he clogs up the basepaths when the top of the St. Louis order gets up. Hard to utilize the speed of Vince and Ozzie with lard ass Pena chilling on base. Lindy is a better call in the 8 spot.

Post by: ultimate7 on 02/10/04, 10:47:50 AM
It's not as if Lindeman is fast
Title: Re:Worst RBI Moments....
Post by: Baines on 02/10/04, 12:20:36 PM
I personally like to get Lindy in at #3 for Herr.  I leave Tony in to swing away because like Ultimate7 said, it's not like Lindeman has blazing speed either.

Personally, every time I try to use too much strategy with StL and play small ball it comes back to bite me in the ass.  My philosophy is that regardless of who they have on their team, after all it's still RBI Baseball and you're better off swinging for the fences.
Title: Re:Worst RBI Moments....
Post by: fknmclane on 02/10/04, 12:20:44 PM
Lindy goes in the seven hole.  No questions asked.  Tony Pena will forever be my 8 hitter after dismantling Chubbs in our classic series.
But I've always been that way.

Lindman also has mass power.  Dude hit's the shit out of the ball.

7 spot for me too.
Even though I wouldn't be the Cardinals, cuz Tony Pena is the devil

I view Herr as a quality 3 spot...in a weak lineup, he's actually one of the brighter spots. IMO

Tommy Herr was my favorite player as a kid (the actual player, not just in RBI). Loved him, no idea why. I can *never* take him out of the lineup. :)

Honestly, I always liked Herr and I'd love to leave him in but it seems like he pops up too much.  Actually, not just him but the StL team in general.  I'd love to just turn them all loose on the basepaths but it seems like every time I try to do it they hit the damn ball in the air.   I used to let Herr and Ford each get a couple AB's to decide who pissed me off the most before bringing in Lindeman but as I've become a bigger Lindeman fan, I like to get him in as soon as possible.

I had to bring this thread back because I have to vent about my worst night of RBI ever last night.  This shit always seems to happen after I go on a tear like I've had recently.  I went fucking 4-6 last night which shouldn't be the end of the world but pisses me off because I just don't lose at RBI to certain people.

It started off innocently enough when I dropped a 15-5 on Payton7 with SF vs. AM and then followed up with an 18-8 over NY with AM.  Then he beat me in a 16-15 heartbreaker with BO over DT.  It ends on a double play with Gibson lining out to the 1B standing on the bag to double off Trammell.

I didn't think anything of it at the time but this is where the ass pounding begins.  Next up I lose to spike_owen#1 by 1 run in the CA-MN rivalry.  Like a dumbass, I finally convince him he needs Jones in the lineup and he hits 4 bombs.  About an hour later we play a rematch and I quit for the first time ever down 10-5 in the 4th.  I'm not one to quit but regardless of the score, it was a matter of principle.  At that point Gaetti, Kirby, Fat Hrbek, and Brunansky were hitless while I'm getting destroyed by Schoefield, Grich and Boone.  I just put the controller down and walked out and went to the gym without saying a word.

Then I come back later only to lose 4 of 6 in the other rivalry with NY vs. AM.  Not that it should be that big a deal losing to AM but I usually own them with NY.

Let's concentrate on the good points. What did you do well last night?

All, the old leaving the game in the middle.  I've done it myself a couple times, disgraceful as it is.  Though the couple times I did I was drunk.  Was this a sober walkoff?

Chubbs has gotten pretty good at the storm-off.  It usually only happens when we're completely hammered.  I've perfected the "I choose not to play" routine after a series of agonizing defeats.

I can never do that, especially when drunk.  I will not walk away from the game if I just lost badly...

This actually was a sober walkoff.  Now that I think of it though I have walked out one other time where I was drunk, walked out and fired half a Keystone down the street.  I think I had the Twins that time also.

QuoteI've perfected the "I choose not to play" routine after a series of agonizing defeats.

Also did this one for the first time last night.

Danny Heep was clutch.  Other than that all I did well was give up homers to below average hitters and lose twice to the worst RBI player we know.

This is sad but for the first time ever, I'm so bitter toward RBI that I refuse to play it tonight.  Fuck it.  We're drinking and playing Halo.

Taking a break can definitely help.  Our RBI level is pathetic lately, but when we were all living together and playing RBI, everyone had slumps.  It was like you couldn't win even if your opponent had Houston.  You just get so mad and can't time that swing.   Nothing worse than losing your swing in straight pitch.  And yes, it does happen...
