The OH Contingency got a few games in tonight. 5 in all.
We played the arcade rom...good stuff. Although I have the stand up version, I am embarrassed to report that we were not at all familar with the teams. It was especially dicey when trying to figure out who/when to PH.
Anyway, per our usual, pitching was the dominant force. We randomly drew teams and match ups. I got Ok, At, Bo, Ch, and Sl. A few notes, since this was the first time I seriously sat down and played the arcade version (my stand up in more of a novelty for some shameful reason):
* NES Clemens is definitely better than Arcade Clemens
* Walters is really almost too good--movement was difficult for Riley to control.
* Spahn was my favorite/best P.
* Sutter should be side armed
* Ho still sucks
* Bob Gibson was disappointing
* Hack Wilson went 0-whatever for me, but I felt like everytime he made contact, it was a rocket--just was to a fielder every time
* Phil Niekro was much better than I expected
* NYY's line up is waaay too good (although they beat me only 1-0 and I challenge the Lou Gehrig HR...he was totally jammed/fooled on the pitch and didn't get a good swing--it was only because it was Lou).
Good time was had.
dunno if you checked the ratings, but atlanta clocks in with more power than new york. but depends if you like righties or elfties i guess.
Well Atlanta did end up with the biggest victory of the night (6-1), but still, that surprises me.

same here, he's just not that great in the game
with subbing in Adcock to lead off atlanta has 6 guys with 900 or better. NY after subs has 4. Atlanta has 1 weak spot in the order. #2 is basicaly a 750 hitter and thats the best you can do. the rest of the line-ups is murderer row.
I'll email yah my sheets i made with all the ratings after work.
Wow. I'm assuming NYY's four are Ruth, Mantle, Maris, and Gehrig? That does still leave 0 weaknesses between the other four, depending on match ups: Winfield, Mattingly, Yogi, Nettles, Munson.
Also, I was disappointed that Rickey Be Rickey didn't do shit. I was looking forward to him on the basepathes.
the 2 hitter for Atlanta has much success with the lefty hit, and isn't too slow either.
Octo and I played a 7 games series last night, I won the first, he won the next two, I won game 4, and in game 5...
I tied it up with one in the 8th, I threw King and Hernandez for 8 innings so Alexander was still quite fresh, he took Clemens out in the 8th (which is almost unheard of for Octo since the first four games were complete games), Schiraldi proceeded to give up a run and we were tied at 5.
In the 10th, I proceeded to give up two, in the bottom of the 10th, then Trammel got on and Gibby hit a bomb, DaEvans and Nokes proceeded to suck it up and we went to the 11th.
In the 11th, Rice (probably, he was on fire the entire series), hit a bomb, and that was that. Until I loaded the bases with two outs someone hit a squibbler, then Octo got out of the inning.
On to the 12th. With two outs and two on, my third baseman made a crucial error (one of his four in the six game series) on a hard hit ground ball, this was followed by a single and than a BOMB by Dewey Evans. 13-8 Octo.
Not over yet, bottom of the 12th, Brookens grounds out to third, Alexander gets out, by this point Stanley is done (he had been done for a few innings now), so, knowing this, I knew I still had a chance, Trammell gets on, Gibson hits another home run, DaEvans hits a clean single into right (that he barely beats out), and Nokes comes in, Octo had been throwing many balls trying to get goodl ocation, Nokes gets a hold of one...and lines out sharply to the right fielder a few feet in front of the wall (Nokes had three home runs in 5 games up to that point too).
I, HATE, unearned runs, and, as Octo mentioned on the Bop thread, I do indeed get an inordinate amount of bops, it was insane.
Also, very demoralized, I proceeded to be 10 run ruled in 4 innings in the next game from an onslaught of bombs from Boston, to lose the series 4 games to 2.

yeah thats right i believe. mattingly and Winfiled are needed subs with only 855 and 825 power. pretty good by most teams standards. NY realy doesnt have a glaring weakness on offense, but Atlanta just brings the lumber quite a bit more. NY also gets screwed by having a staff with little stamina. 36 for both starters, righetti and gossage cobine to equal 30.
Overall Atlanta seems to have better pitching. as a staff its not exactly comparable. atlanta has a lot more endurance, and better drop ball pitchers. gossage has very little stuff, while garber can bring lots of curve. Id say Atlanta puts the whooping on NY more often than not.
Nice recap attezz, very detailed. good stuff. 1 SP i assume?
This entire thread is quality...
Dirt - I too barely play the arcade version and honestly I prefer to play the Arcade cart in the NES. The controllers and space constraints just make it for a less enjoyable experience. That being said, I've only played about 5 or so arcade games on my cart...
Last night I played my Arcade machine for the first time in quite a while, first time I've played any RBI in probably 6-8 months, but I've been watching 15 games per week at super fast speed. It seemed like the Arcade machine was running in slow motion.

once again, my offer for the arcade team roster attributes. i just emailed dirtbag these, so im sure he'll be able to testify to thier awesomeness, along with my awesomeness.
Yeah, I see you sent 'em...thanks TBTer.
As unprecidented as it is, Riley and I got 3 more RBI games in this evening (the fam is out of town)...we hadn't played since the OH Tourney (end of June '05) and suddenly are able to get games in on back-to-back nights. Good stuff.
I was rolling. We played push-pull...where one guy would present the match up, but the other guy gets to pick his team.
Riley offered Cn vs Sf in game 1...I took SF. I really enjoyed Marichal's stuff...and the key vs. Walters is to take a little more when your opponent isn't well versed with his stuff.
Game 2, I offered At vs Ok...Riley took At. Again, Rickey Be Rickey disappointed me. So far, I can only think NES Coleman is much better. Anyway, despite the fact that I feel like At is the better team, I took a close match up (and found out that Vida has nice stuff and Fingers has shit for stuff).
Game 3, Riley offered up Ch vs. Bo and I was glad to take Bo. This one wasn't close in the beginning (I took a 4-0 lead), but was close in the middle (Riley tied it at 4 in the 7th) and then I took the lead for good in the 8th with a 2 run jack by Rice.
Also, of note:
* I had a no-no vs Riley in game one through 7.
* I had 1 hit in game 2 through 8 or so, but was winning 2-0 (Reggie walk + McGwire bomb)
I still think I like Spahn the best of the Ps I used in the 2 days, but I thought Marichal had dominant stuff, Vida was solid, Tiant was solid, too.
Is there anybody that considers themself "well versed" at the arcade game? I'd love to hear some insight on team preferences. I have to be honest, when Riley presented match ups, I didn't really know who to take and vise versa.
A few of my friends and I (other than Octo) almost exlusively played Arcade RBI for a few weeks.
But I only feel like answering one of your questions at the moment.
Which question is that?

I consider myself "well versed"

Maybe later.
hahaha...SUCKER! I got you to answer another question!
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." But only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line."
Pretty sure I'm more Sicilian than you.
1/4, take that, bitch.
My Italian heritage does not trace back to Sicily...but more importantly, it was a quote from the Princess Bride.
I'm more Italian than both of you and I knew that was a quote from the Princess Bride and I consider myself well verse on the Aracde, but sometimes I wonder if I really am.
I feel like I'm being baited here...

I thought you were black.
I'm half Italian, I think Dirt's full, but I've got Sicilian in me as well.
There was no reason for this post.

Galatasaray, their players went four months this year without being paid, were humiliated three weeks back, had numerous training strikes, but stuck it all out, and won the league this afternoon, two points clear the murdering Fenerbache, and I couldn't be more proud.
i don't really watch soccer. i don;t get the channels.
