Just trying to find out who plays what. :)
slurve
Straight pitch, all the time, but I think we're probably the minority.
Always curve
Curve, unless I'm playing with newbies.
Curve all of the time unless I am winning by like 9 runs and I don't want the game to end just yet.
fclane, did you define slurve per my last post about it? So many threads I think i lost it. Give me a good defininition and I'll put in the glossary....
i play curve, but then again i'm playing against the computer at work :-(
Gantry, I think I just use different terminology. Slurve is not curved straight pitch. Every pitch must end up being over the plate. Not hittable, but actually be called a strike. The pitcher can throw from anywhere on the mound, but the ball MUST be a strike. Penalty is 5 drinks.
McLane--that's the way we play.
The only tricky situation is knuckleballs that drop.
It's a strike, and it's legal--but frowned upon.
If someone struck me out on one of those, I'd just K him with a shitty pitch next inning.
Fuck you! Don't strike me out and that won't happen.
It would be cool if "pitch style" could be added to member profile, then you could just click on someone and see what type of RBI someone plays. I added Curve_pitch as my YIM, since it doesn't seem like anyone uses the instant messenger fields
Straight
Captain--I thought you were gay??
We play curve for competition. Straight pitch for drinking. And I drink a lot.
I usually play the computer and thus always curve like a mofo.
VEGAS, you curve against the computer? That isn't really necessary I don't think. That makes zero fun.
VGP, changeups/knucklers/sinkers/whatever are perfectly legal even if they drop. It ends up over the plate. I guess they are the exception to the rule but are totally legal.
When I play the computer all I do is press the pitch button. Nothing else. Just chuck meatballs hoping that the freaking Tengen computer will give me a decent game.
I'm mostly with Dove on the pitching, although I vary inside and outside pitches and throw quite a few fastballs; I also sometimes refrain from taking extra bases, as otherwise the number of doubles and triples gets a little wacky. In addition, if a fast player hits a potential double, I'll often leave him at first and have him steal second. With a team like SL, it's not incredibly hard to hit double-digits in steals, assuming the game lasts long enough.
I use slurve against the computer, just because it is boring to give up HR after HR, but I want them to put in play so I can field. I've tried many things to make the games last, I use Houston don't take excessive bases, don't use Mike Scott or Nolan Ryan, and once in a while the games go 7-8 innings
I still throw slurve but don't hold back on the hitting or baserunning side. Ever.
Curve - anything goes. I've thrown three drops in a row. I love earning a walk as well. Even better to have their batter swing at three balls way off the plate. Patience & strategy are the key.

MarquisEXB's style DEFINITELY requires the most skill...and that's how we play, too.
I think Marquis was talking about playing against the computer, which takes NO skill.
Curve all the way. RBI is 80% pitching and defense.

LOL I was talking about PvP. Vs. the Computer, I just hit the pitch button. I really dont play the computer much anymore, if at all.
