since i'm unbelievably bored and currently disallusioned with the state of the current real life phillies, i thought i'd try something silly to kill some time and start a franchise mode with that nice rbi 2k6 rom linked on the front page here. this thread will contain results and spotty stats of my nine game season. if i finish with 6 or more wins (arbitrarily chosen as good enough to win a 5 team division in a 9 game season), i will play a selected american league team in the world series.
to make things interesting, all pitching to the computer will be fastballs right down the middle. also, i will not be allowed to throw the ball in the field. that should make for some tough games.
without further ado...

PHILLIES OUTLAST METS IN 17-16 THRILLER
(http://tcaa.puretecmo.com/gm1.gif)
It all came down to the final at bat. After entering the bottom of the ninth with a 17-13 lead, Phillies closer Tom "Flash" Gordon had squandered three runs on one swing of Cliff Floyd's bat. With Xavier Nady on third, he would face the nine-hole hitter with 2 outs and a 17-16 advantage. Gordon waited for Mets manager Willie Randolph to send out someone to pinch hit for pitcher Pedro Martinez, who had earlier been inserted in relief of Tom Glavine. Incredibly, he chose not to do so.
"Pedro's the man out there..." said Randolph, who had actually pinch hit for his 8-hole hitter Kaz Matsui in the previous at-bat. "Actually, I thought he was Edgar Martinez or something. My bad."
Martinez, predictably, innocently grounded to Ryan Howard at first, and the Phillies escaped with a much-undeserved 17-16 win.
"The inability to legally throw the ball hurt us," said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. "So did the fact that this is the first game I've managed in months, and I was too retarded to have my guys hit practically any home runs. Isnt this supposed to be the game where each team hits twenty homers a game? Oh well, we'll take it."
The Phillies move to 1-0 on the season with the victory.

PHILLES WALLOP HAPLESS NATIONALS 47-13
(http://tcaa.puretecmo.com/gm2.gif)
The Phillies absolutely demolished Washington, recording MLB record marks for hits (53), homers (13), and runs scored (47) in a game in the process. Everybody who batted for Philadelphia, excepting Jimmy Rollins, recorded at least one home run. Some say, perhaps, that this Phillies team should be facing tougher competition.
"They keep telling me to play in something called an 'online league'," remarked manager Charlie Manuel, who has never owned a computer. "I like winning like this here just fine."
Highlights included a complete game by Brett Myers, who helped himself with three hits including an inside the park home-run. "I don't know what happened... I hit a little dribbler in between first and second base, and all the fielders got really confused for some reason, aimlessly running towards the wall" said Myers, describing his first major league round-tripper.
Phenom second baseman Chase Utley had a perfect day, going 8-for-8 with 3 homers, 9 rbi, and a successful bid for the cycle.
The Phillies move to 2-0 on the season with the victory.
