It's only an idea that can develop into one of our times greatest tournaments ever. Some time in the summer of 2004 I can seriously arange a tournament in Portsmouth Ohio. We have an extremely large room, enough tvs and systems with games. Me and few peeps have discused this quite often lately and it is very doable. Straight Pitch, Alcohol, RBI. Thats about what it would be like. A one day tounament that would last all day. Starting at 9 and ending at 12 (thast when the time goes out for rental). If we have a good response to this post then i will get back on here and have more details. I'd like to have around 40 people. If we have that many then a local hotel i know will give great rates. Let Me hear ya'll.
Would it be for fun or would we make it a little "interesting?"
This sounds like an excellent idea! 40 people may be tough though...
A little too far for me, but there seems to be a healthy Ohio RBI contingent...
Shoud have a $5-$10 entry to make it intersting, depends on the showing. And somebody bring a digital camera...
40 is definitely pushing it. I could be there if I arranged it to coincide with a visit to my relatives in Cincy. Are Cincy and Portsmouth close?
There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to get it together Reg, as far as I know, there aren't any other big straight pitch tourneys. 40 may be a bit generous but we should be able to get something pretty good together because we easily have about 15 from Portsmouth. We'll get word out and get a rough estimate of how many so we can plan for location, price, format, etc. I could handle 20-25 at my house which may be cheaper and easier than renting a public place. We'll have some kind of entry fee to make things interesting and cause it would be cool to throw together some kind of t-shirt or something for everybody. Basically it's in its early stages but we can easily have it together before summer.
So if anyone is interested, let us know on here or by IM. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, we'd be glad to hear them.
fknmclane,
If you look at Ohio, we're near the southern tip, about an hour and a half to 2 hours from Cincy depending on how you drive.
with the "entry fee" it would be interesting. It doesnt necissarily (imma a dumbass) in Portsmouth. Cincinnati might be a little more fitting or maybe Columbus. but then again im open all summer to go basically anywhere. I know that some of you are coming from Illinois maybe? well Chicago is about 6 hour drive from Portsmouth. For me that would be worth it, i dont know about your schedules , but i am sure we here in Portsmouth would be willing to work with you all to come up with dates. I do know that 40 people would be very very generous, but i think big. I do believe that 15-20 people in Portsmouth would definately be up for it. I say put a 10 buck entry fee, then give first second and third place prize money, and we could all have t-shirts made easy for cheap. Baines... do u think charles could hook us up with a good deal??? but in order for this to happen(which is very very likely) let us know.
If I talk to him I'm sure he'll hook us up. Since it would be a group thing, maybe not the freebies that we sometimes get but he definitely could give a pretty good deal on tshirts and trophies, etc.
What's the status on this one?
It's still in the works. We've all been kind of busy lately so we don't have much new as far as planning but here's what we're working with so far.
We are definitely having a tournament this summer. We already have around 15 from the area, so it's on for sure.
There will be a $10 - 20 entrance fee, enough to make things interesting but still get a lot of participation.
It will be in Portsmouth but location isn't definite yet, there are a few places we have to choose from.
There will definitely be cash prizes for 1st and 2nd places, maybe 3rd depending on size. Prizes will be all of the entrance fees, minus any expenses. It's not something we're doing to make money, just to get a bunch of people together to play RBI.
I still have to talk to some people but t-shirts are a possibility. If it's feasible, it would be nice for everyone to take home something, even if they get slaughtered.
Format will likely be double elimination. Round robin is an outside possibility based on number of participants, but it won't be single elimination. If people are paying for it, we're going to make sure they get in at least 2 games.
Late June, early July is the most likely possibility. I'm getting married the last week of July so that may get a little hectic. We would love any out of towners so if anyone wants in and wants to make the trip to Portsmouth, let me know and we may be able to work around your schedule since we're in the early stages of planning.
If there any questions just let me know on here or by PM.
Sounds good. I've never played even one inning of straight pitch, but I'd be willing to make the drive and give you guys my money.
The only thing I'd say is that there is a national curve tourney that is on the weekend of June 25, so I'd maybe not schedule it during that same time.
If I'm in Cincy, I'm definitely making the drive. Get the date set up and I let you know.
June 25 I'm getting married so that one's out anyway. Basically any date before that is good. If there is any date that would work out best, let me know and we can probably do it.
I'll be in Vesailles, OH June 12-13, but I've never played straight pitch, and as I write this I'm realizing I won't have all that much free time, so nevermind
I just re-read my last post. I was pretty intoxicated on 2/13 at 4:17AM. It's actually July that I'm getting married just to clarify. That's pretty fucking pathetic on my part. Anyway, we wouldn't want do anything at the same time as the big curve tourney so those two weekends are out.
Hell, I wish i could go to the other one too but I've played so much straight pitch that I'd be worthless. Used to play a little slurve with SalBando but it's been so long that any of those skills are definitely gone.
i am the rbi champ of upper michigan and i am looking for some good straight pitch competition i might be interested in the drive for some rbi.

"RBI champ of Upper Michigan" sounds kinda funny. Almost like he's the head of a clan or something.
With the sparse population of upper Michigan it's not to hard to be champion of anything.
Tony, have you checked out Halaris' RBI Page (http://home.mchsi.com/~jameshalaris/)? I think those guys are from Michigan...
