Title: RBI strategy/things you do to win
Post by: Sarc on 08/01/06, 04:20:16 PM
One of the reasons I even searched for "RBI Baseball" online is because even though I think I'm a pretty good RBI'er, I am always of the thinking that you can always improve. Hence why I looked for other fans of the game that enjoyed it as much as I do. That being said what do some of you guys do to improve your chances of winning a game? My brother gets pissed off a lot because I win a majority of the games we play, but IMO he doesn't do the little things to score those 1 or 2 extra runs that might make a difference.

I usually do little things like:

-Hit & Run a lot, or "fake" steal if you will. I only start running once he starts pitching so I don't get picked off. Anything to lessen a potential double play or possibly advance an extra base on a hit [i.e go from 1st to 3rd instead of 1st to 2nd only]

-Hitting to the opposite field. My brother still hasn't grasped the whole "manufacturing" a run bit.

-I tend to try to hit to the opposite field [depending upon the batter] if I have a man on 3rd with less than two outs. I usually start running/fake steal and then hit towards the first base side with good results. Almost always an assured run unless it's a fly out.

-Knowing the strengths/weaknesses of the team you are playing with. For example, if you are SL, don't try to pull the ball with Vince Coleman [unless there are people on base]. His job is to get on base, not drive in runs. If he hits to the SS or 3rd he almost always gets on thus raising my chances of scoring in the inning.

-Another thing my brother does is leave his pitcher in waaaay to long. I usually win games by having a huge inning. Maybe in Straight pitch it doesn't really matter, but since we play curve ball 90% of the time it makes a huge difference.

How about you guys? Anyone else have any certain strategy that puts the odds in your favor?

Hey Sarc, who do you normally play RBI against?

Just my brother. We've both been playing the game since it came out. I was 13 when the original 8-bit Nintendo came out and it was one of the first games we got. Man we played the hell out of it. Though back then I was partial to "contra". But I also was able to play against all of my friends back then as well. I just turned 33 and my brother is 37. He lives about two blocks from where I live so we hang out quite a bit still. I don't really play the computer all that much anymore, there's no challenge in it.

i hit aggressively. I move with the pitch in or out. I like to be up in the box and on top of the plate so I can catch curves before they bite in or out, I create my own sweet spot and optimize it. I may move back and forth, and I just go with my intuition and awareness. With 2 strikes, I move back in the box and go with the contact hits, sometimes.

Baserunning, aggresive but smart. And getting good reads on the throw from the catcher and outfielders to get that extra base or stolen base.
Pitching, movement is the key and changing speeds at crucial times for that punch out. Against the hitters I know who have a low chance of hurting me, I just give them a little piece of the ball so they can play pepper with my infielders.

Great hand eye coordination is what seperates the average players from the elite. My hand eye is top notch.

My best strategy is to never play another Dee-Nee member so no one will be able to find out how good or bad I am.

If I started being less agressive running the bases, I would win more often.  I run myself out of at least 2 innings and 4-6runs per game and proabably more when I am hitting well.

Funny. Wake and Bake and RBI always gives me the edge. I love pitching when I am baked.

This is an overexaggerration.....Briz runs bad...but not 4-6 runs bad.

I used to play wearing just a hat, but rastein handed me my first hat-only loss during our 24 hour marathon.
