Title: RBI Tourney Today!
Post by: TbT on 10/14/06, 10:34:33 AM
Fort Dodge style folks.  just got wind of this a couple days ago.  4 of us cats will square off.  As far as i know we'll each draft 2 teams, bracket em up randomly, and go at it.  Whats usually on tap for this event is ATG/1SP play.

im gonna push for a losers bracket.   1game elimination/2SP format just to entend the gameplay a tad and give us a 3rd place team.

3 of us are pretty evenly matched.  the 4th guy usuaslly doesnt win a game, but hopefully that will change today.  i wanted to work with him to help improve his game, but short notice on the tourney didnt allow that.  i havent played rbi in months so hopefully i can overcome the rust in the 1st series and get a win.

Losers bracket is a must. Good Luck. I would kill everybody there if I were there playing with my toes.

weve got 2 series done so far.  1st we drew cards to see what positions u would draft.  either 1-8, or 2-7, etc, etc.

of the 4 i got the lowest card and was given the leftovers and drafted 1st and 8th.

the draft
1 Bos  TBT
2 NL    Jeff
3AL     Chad
4 Det   Brian
5 Cal    Brian
6 NY     Chad
7 SF     Jeff
8 MIN  TBT

then we randomly set up the match-ups.  you cannott face the same human in both 1st round series.

BOS vs AL
DET vs NL

CAL vs NY
SF vs MIN

1st series and i play the guy who i consider to be just as good as me.
Game 1.  Bos 5  AL 4.
I(Bos) build up a 4-2 lead.  a bop on an inning ending grounder leads to molitor PH'ing for the pitcher and goes yard on me in the 7th or 8th(?)to tie.  I get 1 more Baylor homer in the 9th and pull it out.    demoralizing homer i gave up, but mcgwire was batting lead off so i needed to attack.
Homers.....Baylor 3   Rice 1 Armas 1.....Bell 1 Molitor 1.

Game 2.  Bos 3  AL 1.
I start stanley and get 3+ outta him.  Hurst is a beast, and Shrialdi doesnt come in till i believe the 9th.
Homers.... Evans 1 Henderson 1.....Scroeder 1.

i did a pretty good job at wearing down chads pitchers.  i continually won the arms race.  tough series.

Next series

Game 1.  Det 8  NL 2.
A late game homer barage of about 4 homers in the 6th inning on, blows this game open.
Homers....Dawson 1......Trammel 1(1-sb also)  Evans 1  Madlock 1  Nokes 1 Brookens 1

Game 2.  NL 2  DET 1.
Jeff gets his 1st ever tourney win.  he was prolly 0-9 in his career before this game but comes thru huge with sutcliffe.  Tramel hits a shot late, trailing 2-0.
Homers...Dawson 1...Trammel 1.

Game 3.  Det 7  NL 0
a couple bops a slew of doubles lead to a lopsided game.  i believ it was 6-0 by the end of the 6th.
Homers.....Nokes 1 Trammel 1.

ok so that means BOS vs DET in the quarter finals.
NL and AL will square off in a 1 game elimination in the losers bracket and they can use both SP's in that game.

currently game 1 of NY CAL is going on, scoreless in the 2nd.  i lucked out like a mofo since i got MIN.  the top 4 teams drafted were all selected randomly to play in the top half of the bracket, and MIN gets to play in the bracket with the bottom 4......so i have a chance to win a series or 2 down there as well.  tough games up ahead for me, but i cant face my nemesis chad for a least a few more series.  that guy is tougher than shit to beat.  so far brian has looked alright as well.  Jeff has showed me something today.  he's played tough, cant sleep on him in the SF/MIN series.

more recaps later.
NY 2 CAL 1.....Joyner just went yard in the 4th.

NY took a 4-1 win over CAL, and leads 1-0.  only homer was by Joyner.

Post by: TbT on 10/14/06, 06:06:10 PM
game 2.....Hojo hits a 3 run PH BOMB...outta the stadium.  NY leads CAL 4-0 after one.  does not look good for Brian trailing by 4 and down a game in the series.

i was hoping brian would win this series.  i dont think its gonna happen now.

EDIT  Strawberry hit one out over the scoreboard.  Cal counters with manufacturing a run thanks to a pettis flyball, and a groundout by decinces...NY leads 5-1 top 4th.  Brian started Corbet and he got rocked....Cal now has Sutton in.  Chad/NY started orosco, and now had gone to Ojeda to get out Reggie with Joyner on 2nd.  Big out thanks to a K.

Strawman just went yard in the 8th against moore.........7-1 NY is rolling.  Cal is toast.  bad series for brian.

Joyner just hit a triple.....they yelled write it down bitch!  Jackson apararently hit an infiedl single? and joyner scores.  chad is bogarting the laptop in the room with the nes...hjes a gambling junkie and needs to keep up with the college scores while he plays.

Awesom updates.

Post by: TbT on 10/14/06, 06:26:12 PM
holy shit.....brian strings some hits together and has the bases load trailing 7-3.  joyner hit a fly to left and he fucks up getting his guys on the bags right.  doesnt get the tag up and score with pettis, and the guy on 1st reaches second and there was a double play on the runner at 1st.........damn, reggie woulda been batting as the winning run had he not screwed it up, vs a tiring mcdowell.

good endinh though.

MIN-me vs SF and jeff to start here in 2 minutes......need to win this one fo shizzle.  i need to take many pitches.

ok.  game 1.  min 13 sf 3.  i went 5 and 6 pitches on krukow and he was toast early.  lead 7-3 after 7 then exploded for a 6 run 8th. jeff misplayed a couple flyballs and MIN had a ton of singles.  will post homer totals later.  blyleven had a no no into the 7th but tired and started to serve up gopherballs.

in game 1 the homers were by.........puckett 1 gagne 1  bruno 1/grandslam laudner 1...and mitchell 1 maldonado 1.

in game 2....MIN 4 SF 0.  Viola pitched a complete game 1 hitter.  jeff played much better by i costantly challenged the SF hitters all game, and rueschel was gassed by the top of the 4th inning.  i did a good job wearing those guys down.   1 homer in game 2.....Bruno.

Jeff is the least experience player.  also he tried to hard pitching to the twinkies.  u need to go after those hitters, and not try to be too cute.  with bly and viola, i spent a lot fot he game just throwing it up there on the outside for them to hit.  lots of 6 or less pitch innings.

the eliminations now begin....the race for 3rd place is on.  NL(Jeff) vs AL(Chad) in the conso bracket....we'll see if jeff can rebound vs a real tough team here.

AL NL game scoreless thru 6.  jeff has a chance cause i believe the NL has a nasty pitching staff.

NL defeats AL 1-0.  from the parts of the game i was able to watch i dont think jeff took a single pitch.  he reverted back to his old ways.

SF vs CAL.  Jeff gets on the board with a Uribe homer?  he forgot to sub him out and the bastard goes yard.  SF up 1-0 early.  hopefully jeff works the counts and takes some damn pitches vs CAL or he will be toast and have both of his teams done for the night.

Cal trailing 3-1 rallys in the bottom of the 9th to win 4-3.  they strung together a few hits and a untimely misplay on a ball smashed down the 1st baseline lead to schofield slapping a single up the middle past the pitcher to knock in the game winner.

homers......uribe 1 brenley 1 mitchel 1.

jeff played very well thru 8 inninings and showed he has some resolve in the rbi worl but comes up short in his final 2 games that went right down to the wire.

im up next BOS vs DET!
Title: Re: RBI Tourney Today!
Post by: TbT on 10/14/06, 09:28:04 PM
BOS vs DET   BOS 7  DET 2 game 1.  I took a ton of pitches and had morris very tired by the 3rd or 4th inning.  put on a hitting clinic and cruised.
HR's....Rice1 Henderson 1....madlock 1.

Game 2.  Bos 7  DET 1.  more of the same.  doyle gets tired early cause i was running eacj count to at least 3 or 4 pitches.  Doyle does give DET like 5 innings but he gives up 4 or 5 runs in the process.  lots of homers by BOS and its a masacre.

Bos and TBT are onto the finals.

The semifinals match between NY and MIN looks to be tough for me, cause i know how well NY pitches since they are probably my favorite team to use, and now i have to find a way to beat them.  at this point i decalre how i have yet not lost a game, and chad and brian are sure this will be the demise of me.

Game 1.  MIN 4  NY 1.  I go yard 4 times which is crazy from minny and the only mistake i give up is a PH bomb from Hojo.  dykstra is pesky but i roll.   Blyleven rolls deep into the game.  Gaetti goes yard off gooden in the 1st inning.
Homers by......Gaetti1 Laudner 2 Lombardozzi..........Hojo.

Game 2.  MIN 3 NY1.  istart reardon and manage to get 5 innings outta him.   Chad starts orosco who gives me fits but i hang in there and take a 2-1 lead.  i cant remember exactly when  or who i had on the mound, but dykstra and mokie get on thanks to some unfortunate bullshit...lefty hits er something......hernandez kills one deep but it looks like i got a bead on it so it holds the runners.  it bounces off the wall in str8 center but they cant score.  i get carter striking out....this makes me think this was the part of the game i brought in viola.  next is strawbery with the bases loaded and 2 outs.  straw hits it hard to left but my left fielder just barely gets to it...kind of a frozen rope shot he just got to.  chad and brian are sorta deflated by this.  viola cruises the rest of the way and i win the series.

it a 1st in fort dodge tournys but i have both teams in the championship round.  its our 3rd over all tourney like this.  im not 100%, but i am 90% sure im have yet to even trail in any game so far.

conso bracket recap.....which we changed up to 1 game elimination 2 sp.....

AL
vs =     AL
NL       VS  =  AL

           DET

CAL
VS =    CAL
SF        VS = Not yet played to meet AL for 3rd place.

            NY

and the winner bracket has Bos vs MIN.  which then changes to a best of 5.  I'll being taking Bos and we'll have a card draw to see who gets MIN.

in the coso bracket AL just beat DET in a crazy ass game that i missed most of typing the last post.

AL 9  DET 8
Brian/DET took a big lead early 4-0, AL scored 8 unanswered runs, before a DET counter of 4.  Ripken hit the difference maker, and AL prevailed.

Homers....Bell 1 Mcgwire 2 Mattingly 1 Ripken 1 Baines 1....Gibson 2....Nokes 2

CAL/NY being played now.

Once Jeff had NL and SF eliminated he tok off.  Brian left as well leaving chad and I to battle it out for the finish.  Chad had both his teams NL and NY left for the 3rd place game in the conso bracket.

He took AL, and I got NY.  on the 1st pitch Mcgwire went opo and put it out, giving my opponent the lead for the 1st time al night.  crazy  ???

I tie it up the next inning, and then Hernandez goes yard knocking in 3 to give me a 4-1 lead.  Hernandez tacks on another homer and NY cruises 5-3.  it was kinda weird in the conso bracket cause sometimes we would forget that we had 2 SP's at out disposal.  i believe  started the game with orosco, but im not for certain.  NY takes 3rd palce...AL takes 4th.  not a bad night for Chad though.

In the finals.  Chad is gassed and only wants to play a best of 3 series, which is cool by me.

Game 1.  Bos 8  MIN 1.  From what i remember this game slowly came unravelled for chad as i got a few runs here and there.  Homers by....Boggs 1  Baylor 1 Armas 1......Bush.

I didnt notice at the time but in the 8th inning icant remember the batter but he hit a pop up that i should have got with my 2b, but i went after with my pitcher...anyways it fell in for a hit breaking up my nohitter from clemens.  crazy that neither of noticed this was going on.  Bush PH in the next inning and went yard on clemens giving them thier only run.

Game 2.  Bos 3  MIN 1.  Homers by Henderson 1 Burks 1 rICE 1......Bruno provided the highlights.  This game was contested pretty tightly as i only lead 2-0 thru probably 5.

in the series i got a good dose of the greatness that is blyleven.....didnt get the o goign till he came out, then i fkn pounded sr smoke.

Overall Player records

TBT 11-0
Chad 5-5
Brian 3-7
Jeff 1-6

Team records.

1. Bos 6-0
2. Min 4-2
3. NY 4-2
4. A.L. 2-3
5. Det 2-4
6. CAL 1-3
7. N.L. 1-3
8. SF 0-3

we didnt really document our other tourneys too well so i cant look them up, but i do remember losing in the championship round during the1st tourney we had.  I also remember not even making it to the championship round the 2nd time around.  To dominate like this was quite feat.

Looks like all those hours with nate getting ready for the cotu paid off.  I havent played against these guys in roughly a year.  that time we just had 3 of us(chad/brian) and we played 3 game cotut sets, and no tourney like this.  i stunk it up in that get together and went 1-5 that night.  so this was a huge improvement.  I dont know if it was just the 1SP thing or what.  I did get Boston who i am very comfortable with, and MIN didnt have an unbeatable opponent in the brackets either so those 2 factors possibly helped.

player home run totals to come next.

Incredibly thorough recap.  We all have to be impressed with TBT.

I must believe that the Iowa loss has got to be crushing many folks on this board.  I have to believe Bucky will be ahead of Hawkeyes in the polls.  Now that old man Frye is gone, paint the locker rooms a real fckng color.  That is the gayest sht in college or pro sports.  Embarrassingly unsportsmanlike to have visiting pink locker rooms.  We'll see you soon at your place.  Please paint the locker room before we get there.  The sooner, the more you'l regain respect on a national scale.

Lastly, have you noticed how many bombs were hit in the FD tourney?  Goes to my point... speed means little.

Lastly, have you noticed how many bombs were hit in the FD tourney?  Goes to my point... speed means little.

it was 1SP games for the most part (20 games total/15 games 1SP) so that usually does mean more offense.  There was also a fair share of bad pitching from the other guys.  I gave up 12 homers in 11 games, so i think i did my part pitching wise.

Im not down on the factor that speed translates to.  Dykstra and Mookie used thier speed to get me in the biggest jam i faced all night clinging to a small lead, bases load/1 out, and Carter/Strawberry due up.  A lefty hit, and a very hard hit ball that was a BOP allowed both to reach base.

In another scenario, Burks repeatedly beat out double play attempts for me all night so the big bats could get busy with some men on base.
