Title: Like a Virgin
Post by: Big Apple RBI Champ on 10/19/06, 09:16:32 AM
Guys,

I discovered the All-Stars.  For some reason I never played with them, but I figured "why not?" as they are not much better than BO or DT or CA.  It's like I just discovered sex.  Dick dick dick dick dick dick dick dick.

Much great new and exciting RBI in my future.

Yeah it seems like a lot of guys around here are against playing with All-Stars, and I don't know why.  It's like neglecting 20% of the game if you don't play with them, and I've played a lot of man vs. man games of Detroit vs. AL/NL and had Detroit win.  I don't know how the other teams fare because to be honest with you, we rarely pick a team outside those three, although Boston, Cal, Minnesota, and San Fran all get chosen from time to time.

Anyways, I think when I host the tournament, hopefully this summer, I'm looking to find a way to include the all-star teams as an option for the tournament, maybe by allowing each player a one-time use of an All-Star team, and it's up to him as to whether he wants to use it in the first round or championship, or whatever, or maybe allow all-stars anytime, as long as the other team agrees to it, and he can then use the opposite all-star team maybe.  I don't know, the only problem I see is that the NL is just so much better than the AL.  First off, you've got Valenzuela pitching for NL, who is one of the best I think for man vs. man, if not THE best. (This would be for ATG style...Valenzuela's movement is deadly in ATG) but then if you do your subsitutions right, you can have a lineup in the NL that starts like this: Raines, Guerrero, Murphy, Dawson, ED, Schmidt. That's freaking deadly.

Well, I got sidetracked a little bit, but anyways, using the All-Stars is a big part of RBI fun in my opinion.

since we follow the rules that you can only use a team once, we opened up the option for an allstar game final.  both people have to agree on it.  we only did it once on a night we did double elimination and the guy who battled throught the losers bracket ran out of teams.

if you've missed these polls(Puhls) check em out.  everyone voted for who they thought were thier top 4 teams in the game.  Bos, Det, NL were obviously the cream of the crop in both Puhls, with Bos winning both.  NL finished 2nd and 3rd.  AL was for the most part considered the 5th best team according to this.

1 starting pitcher games.  ATG.

2 starting pitcher games. ATG

in a recent tourney we had the AL and NL were bumped out in round 1/best of 3 series.  Bos over AL 2-0  and Det over NL 2-1.   The AL did advance to finish 4th in the conso bracket.  NL lost 1-0 in thier only game the conso bracket.   it proved to me that the al star teams can be thrown in the mix and not cause that much of a problem.

Lance...check my tourney's "team selection" rules for a great way to get Am/Na involved without pissing off the haters.

Joe...just checked out your tourney page, I really like the way you set that up, perfect way so that if both guys are cool with using all-stars, they can do it in a fair way.  I coulg go on...but that's just a really good way of doing it.  Nice work.  When's the deadline for signing up for your tourney?

I generally only allow All-Star usage in rare occasions or if I am playing against an RBI newcomer so that they can learn with better hitting than your average team.

i'm just surprised that you've been around here so long--and obviously playing the game for so long--that you never gave them a chance.

i'm a big proponent of all-stars.

i guess i just always assumed they were so much better than the other teams, but now that i have observed all this analysis about all-stars, i see they are mortals.
