tbt is up.  i've seen him come and go from the thread a few times...  i hope he's not getting too nervous about his no. 3 pick.

guys, i'm sorry, i'm going to have to take some more time and consider my pick.  i'll try to choose the #4 pick of the draft before 10pm pacific.  thanks for your patience.

2 spots higher than last season

I thought he'd be a top 3 pick, but then again, I never use the All-Star teams so I am largely unaware of the smorgasboard of potential picks there.

I thought there was a chance that Gantry would take him, but it looks like logic is overriding sentiment for the Poopydicks.

My partner in crime didn't even mention Potatos.  The Dawson pick was all him, I had my sights set on Jorge Bell.

My feeling is that the Hawk is the consensus #1, anyone picking otherwise is making a mistake.  I had a chance to trade for Andre last season, I have no idea why I didn't do it.

well, we'll see how reggie pans out for us this year.  i had certain reasons for choosing him this year among who was available.

ult, did we offer dawson to you last year?  i don't recall.  who did we try to get from you?
Title: Re: Official 2006 Fantasy Draft Comments

Dawson for Evans plus an exchange of picks during the draft, you wanted to move up to pick someone

Post by: TβG on 10/25/06, 11:23:43 AM
interesting, i get so schizo sometimes during the draft.

this year i don't think you'll mind picking in the 10-11 spot.  that's where we were the first year.  there's a lot of good guys around for you and the sandwich pick works for great strategy.

Whatever, we totally get Kirk Gibson twice now.

It's my bad, I told Rack in a PM to go ahead and it seemed like you guys were getting ancy and Rack wasn't on.

It would be much more embarrassing had Rack selected Charlie Kerfeld.

Can they?

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/berman.jpg): Welcome to ESPN's exclusive coverage of the Fantasy RBI Baseball Draft. We're here at Madison Square Garden. As always, I'm joined by our draft experts, Mel Kiper and Jay Bilas. Guys, up until the middle of the second round, everything was going according to plan. Then Attarack made their second round pick, and suddenly we had our first questionable pick of the draft when they went with Tim "Singing in the" Raines. Guys?

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/kiper_170x220.jpg): Well, you could hear that the crowd was all over this pick. It was almost 50/50 between cheers and boos, with a lot of gasps thrown in there. Then again, most of the booing probably came from Jets fans who came here to root on Ryno's team and get their booing practice in for the 2007 NFL Draft.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/berman.jpg): But was it a good pick?

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/kiper_170x220.jpg): Look, Tim Raines is a complete player, but you have to wonder if he wouldn't have been available in a later round. There are a lot of guys with more power that were available, and power is so key in Fantasy RBI.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/BilasJay5.jpg): Mel, I disagree. Tim Raines is one of the most athletic players in the game. With his combination of speed, power and average, he is the most diverse player in the draft. Really, he has almost unlimited upside potential.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/berman.jpg): Certainly, a controversial pick. Let's go to Linda Cohn, who is at Attarack team headquarters right now.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/LindaCohn_717.jpg): Thanks guys, and I'm outside of the War Room where team co-owners Attezz and Racktacular just made this pick. I see Attezz now – let me see if I can get a word with him. Attezz, why did you go with Tim Raines?

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/Attezz.jpg): Is this ESPN? You're the chick with ESPN, right?

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/LindaCohn_717.jpg): Uh, yeah...I was just....

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/Attezz.jpg): THEN FUCK YOU!!! ESPN CAN SUCK MY DICK! What, are you going to ask me how this pick might impact the Yankees now?!? What do you know about Fantasy RBI, Linda? I mean, you're so glib, and not very attractive! At least they could have sent me that redheaded chick Marlo.

FUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!

<Attezz then rips the ESPN logo off of Cohn's mic and eats it. Camera cuts back to the draft set, with Joe Buck in Chris Berman's spot>

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/180px-Joe_Buck.jpg): Folks, I want to apologize for that disgusting display. I'm sorry you had to ACK!...

<Buck is tackled by a large security guard and knocked off-frame. After a brief struggle, he is hogtied and taken away screaming while Berman re-enters the picture.>

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/180px-Joe_Buck.jpg): NO! I HAVE TO DO EVERY SPORTING EVENT EVER! BASEBALL, FOOTBALL, RBI, LACROSSE...I'LL DO EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME! YOU'LL SEE!!!

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/berman.jpg): Wow, sorry about that. I went to the bathroom for a second and suddenly that guy shows up. How did he get through security? Guys, didn't you notice this?

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/kiper_170x220.jpg): Sorry, I was reapplying a layer of silicon to my hair....

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/BilasJay5.jpg): And I was on the phone with Coach K, who gave me some interesting insight about the draft since he's the smartest, most amazing and wonderful person alive. According to him, the...

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/fightonusc/RBI%20Baseball/berman.jpg): Whoops, sorry, we're out of time. We'll be providing updates throughout the draft. Stay tuned to ESPN for coverage of the World Series of Lawn Darts Day 12. Goodbye!

the last catcher(s) is/are held for the team(s) without one.  it happened to be steve lake for me last year and he turned out pretty well.

if you draft three catchers, you're a jerk.
Title: Re: Official 2006 Fantasy Draft Comments
Post by: fightonusc on 10/25/06, 02:57:53 PM
As commissioner, I'd jump in and freeze drafting any more catchers if there was only one left and a team hadn't drafted one yet. However, if you want a bench of all catchers, go for it - just make sure you get Stinky Sullivan early.

NFL style whoever is next gets to make their pick and so on, meanwhile person with due pick gets to make it at any time?

fighton should not have to make phonecalls to tell people that their pick is up.  in ryno's situation i can understand, but either do proxies or sit and agonize over the draft like the rest of us have to.  the first two days of the draft are critical, people.

Darkside's Fantasy Watch

So far, ATTARACK seems to have the edge with his first two picks. This unprecedented speed and power package is lethal and unmatched in dee nee.
THE FRANK TANANA ALL-STARS went for great contact hitters with strong muscle power in Mark McGwire and Mike Schmidt. Wise picks.
GDavis made prudent choices in Bell and Armas. Both with consistent above average power.
THE BUTTE CHEEKS going with Canseco and Burks is a brilliant choice. They can hit for average, superman power, and can run a bit.

The rest of the first two picks lacked imagination and were uhm.............so-so.

Updates to come.

You the man, thanks Darkside.

With the first pick, imagination is something you want to stay away from.  The Hawk has the highest power rating in the game and decent speed/contact.  Absolute no-brainer.

TBG fucked me on my second pick.  Well, not really, I was just hoping Brunansky was going to keep falling right into my lap.  Still happy with Rupperto and Brookens.

I'm wondering where my co-counsel is.  I'm sure he'll be happy to see Rupperto on our squad.  As well as the moustache king.

No love.

I have my own rating system on how I judge the players in RBI. I have a system for determining the contact-average, contact-power, and contact-consistency elements. Some players have bigger sweet spots or happy zones if you will.
Those first two picks were  borderline from being a top choice on my list.
However, Strawberry and Baylor are very streaky hitters.

I'm wondering where my co-counsel is.  I'm sure he'll be happy to see Rupperto on our squad.  As well as the moustache king.

I approve of both picks...  Sorry, but out at customers all day and was a bit behind.  Mclane came through and took care of business.  We have the best player, the bench pinch hitter, the best third baseman and the best mustache in the game.  Lookin good!

You're not actually going to put Rupperto on the bench, are you?

but i don't know if that will help since the next pick goes right back to gerlost...  should we just wait til 10 am pacific?  i hate all this crap.  you want to follow the rules, but you don't want people to get screwed over.

get your proxy picks in, people.

Question about bench spots.  I know you can only start 3 OF'ers in the starting lineup, but how do bench players get in the game?  Do they only get subbed in for the pitcher?  Can we decide what subs can be made prior to the game>  How does that work?
Title: Re: Official 2006 Fantasy Draft Comments
Post by: ultimate7 on 10/26/06, 11:42:17 AM
The games are played by the CPU.  If the pitcher comes to bat in the top of the 5th or bottom of the 4th and you are losing, or up by less than 3, the CPU will PH(with rare exceptions)

Same goes for the pitchers spot in the bottom of 7 or top of 8.  And same goes for the 8 and 9 spots in the 8th inning on for both teams as PH's remain.

This maybe should go in a FAQ or something

Rack, you also get to set which order the bench players should be in, not that it really matters all that much.  But you would of course put Santana dead fucking last if you had him.
Title: Re: Official 2006 Fantasy Draft Comments

good description, ult.  i'll also add.... in this league you can fill your bench with whatever players you want.  you can have 4 outfielders on your bench if you'd like.

but keep this in mind:  if you don't like the performance of one of your guys and you'd like to take a guy from your bench and put him in the starting lineup, you can do that for the next weeks games.  since we have ten teams in the league, there will be no free agents, so if you can't use a guy off your bench, you'll have to make a trade.

Darkside's Fantasy watch

A recent swirl of confusion has influenced the fantasy draft thus far. No shows and delayed picks has caused an outrage among the RBI loyalists and Jedi Masters. In theory, the draft is suppose to run without any problems and glitches. But the organizers of this fantasy draft have been working double time to ensure that the draft runs accordingly. Multiple questions concerning pitchers and pinch hitters has created a sense of insecurity in the actual play of the winter league. A unifying agreement on these issues has yet to be reached.

In other news,  catcher Matt Nokes was bypassed by team AttaRack in favor of Tim Laudner. A brave and surprising pick.

We will keep you updated on today's draft a little later.

Nimrods picking Gedman was solid.  He was great for me last year and was probably the best performing catcher.    The 'rods are lucky Attarack skipped over him to draft laudner.

Blank Morris can get on a roll and pound them out.

Do catchers count as If'er, if you already have a catcher?  So can we start 2 catchers if we want to?
