Now that we can do this in the ROMs, I wanted to get people's thoughts... Here's the situation. Let's look at Don Drysdale's numbers for 1958.
.227/7/0 (BA/HR/SB)
But he hit those 7 homers in only 66 at-bats. If he had 450 at-bats in a season, he would have hit 48 homers at that rate.
So where do we rank him for power? Do we give him the power of a 7 homer guy, the power of a 48 homer guy, or somewhere in between?
What do people feel the "pitcher discount" for hitting ought to be?
Looking at his career numbers, he had about two full seasons as a batter & hit 29 HRs, but with a poor SLG & OBP. However he did have two seasons of .500+ SLG, but there were in a limited amount of ABs. My conclusion, give him the SLG of someone that hits 10-20 HRs, but a poor CNT.
Excellent idea to go with the career averages, that's what I'm going to do.
