My NES is a piece of shit. would all I need is that 76 pin connector, a new one that is, to get it working better?? where can I get one?
thanks.
who the fuck is this guy?
Why did TRoogs choose the online forum for this thread?
you can get 'em all day long on ebay.
from what i've read, it's a pain in th ass to take the NES apart and do this.
Erhajj bought one of those new systems that plays NES games and he said everything works fine. I'm thinking it cost less than $50.
My NES is also a piece of shit. . . . for now, the stacked manuever is working for me. Once that fails, I'll have to replace it.
i also got a newer NES knock off that only cost $30 brand new. its very compact and perfect for travel
Yes i bought one for 30 dollars and it is called a toploader. Works perfectly fine actually better than the old systems.
thats not entirely true. when they are new they work really well and you dont need to do any tricks to start the games like in the old systems. but the toploaders are built much cheaper and mine is already starting to get fucked up.
Does anyone here have a genuine Nintendo top loader? I've heard that those things work like a charm, but they cost a shitload of money.
I don't think mine is genuine nintendo. But at least if it falls apart in a year or two it only cost me 30 dollars.
I have a genuine Nintendo top loader, but I don't like it much since it only has the RF connector, not the RCA connectors that the original had. The picture quality is not good at all.
I also have one of those Chinese top loaders and like broiler said, they aren't built to last. I have to unplug and replug the controllers a couple of times before it recognizes them.
i have had the same problem with the controller inputs.

I've got a buddy who has one...and it works, first try, everytime...any game...its truly fantastic.
Has anyone else replaced the pin connector on their old NES? I'd like to do that, but I'd like to make sure it's something that's not too horribly easy to screw up.
You'll need to prepare that pin connector with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And you're gonna need about ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, make that Quaker State.
and dont forget the power crystals
That's weird how the top loader don't have rca outputs. I can't remember the last time I used the other connector.
Also, I found one of my old, beat up Nintendos here, and I'm thinking of making a wooden casing for it to replace the broken plastic. I'll probably get lazy and give up on it though.
my generic toploader has rca

I did this...it's very simple to do. My biggest trouble was removing rusty screws to get the case off.
You can add RCA output to the toploader, if you're comfortable with soldering and that sort of thing ...
the most important thing with dis-assembling the nes is getting the screws out without stripping the heads. you need a phillips #1 i believe. the screws require a small phillips head, and its easy to strip out the heads of the screws if your not careful. apply good pressure once you know for sure that its in there properly and turn slowly.
Its not hard at all to take the nes apart and replace the pins. scour goodwill and garage sales if your scared to take apart a working nes, and find a shitty one that dont work to see how it all comes apart. i got my feet wet on one that was completely trashed. you ned to use a little casution when removing the 72 pin connector so that you dont damage the circuit board's pins that the connector touches. yet another reason to have some spare parts around.
a few of my NES problems were that the pin connector was just really dirty. i took it apart and merely cleaned 2 or 3 of them NES systems with alcohol and put it right back in and those work fine now. you can test the nes while its still apart to determine if it just needed cleaning or needs new pins.
theres a lot of tutorials online that show you how to do each step.
