Title: First Copy of RBI
Post by: lancemeister2006 on 12/08/06, 01:14:09 PM
How'd you guys get your first copies of RBI Baseball?  I got mine because a buddy of mine had one for a while, and I wanted one so bad, but my parents had just got me Tecmo Bowl recently, so I knew they wouldn't be getting me another game for a while, but then a copy fell into my lap when my buddy's sisters started house sitting for some people that were gone, and when he went over there with them to feed their pets and such, they had a note saying go ahead and use the video games if they wanted to.  So he snagged RBI from them for me to "borrow" and then the "borrowing" turned into mine to keep, since they never asked about where their game went.  I've always felt guilty about it, and my mom would always ask me where I got the game...but ironic that one of my greatest joys in life came from stolen property.

I actually didn't own a copy of RBI until last Christmas, when my wife got me both it and RBI 3.  One of my good friends growing up had it, and I played it exclusively at his house (unless he brought it over during a sleepover or something).  RBI 3 was strictly a rental.  Once we moved on to Super Nintendo, my RBI playing was exclusively on emulators until I got my copies last year.

You mean you never play it on the real thing?  This is just wrong.

my friend had a copy when i was younger but i didn't play it on a regular basis.  the first time i played rbi on nes since junior high (1989) probably was when fighton and i got together in the summer of 2005.

I still have my original copy (black cart).  I bought it at KayBee toys for $20

For years prior to owning it, my buddy and I would rent it every weekend. . . . it was impossible to find in our little bassackwards town.

I didn't own an NES until 2000, I had only played it in the arcade, at my buddy's house, and on emulators.  I made the mistake of assuming RBI 4 for the Genesis was the same game when I bought a Genesis in 1999.

I remember having it, I'm sure I got it new possibly as a gift but I don't remember how or when it was acquired.

Didn't even know there was an RBI 4.

i actually didn't get my first copy until 1996 or so.  my best friend growing up gave me all his games then, since his nintendo stopped working.  I got RBI, Tecmo Super Bowl AND Golf in the same haul.

Yes indeed, although they changed it quite a bit - fielding is from a more zoomed-in perspective, and they give you radar like in Griffey on the SNES.  On non-NES platforms, there was RBI 3 and 4 for the Genesis, Super RBI Baseball for the SNES, and a few with numbered years (I know one was RBI '94) on the Genesis.

Purchased with Gauntlet for $14.99 each (after rebate!) from Venture circa 1991.

I got one in 88 when it came out. I think everybody had it back then. It was the only show in town.
