Title: Another annoying question
Post by: lancemeister2006 on 12/11/06, 02:16:16 PM
Can someone please explain how fantasy RBI works, and how I can get in on it?  Considering fantasy sports and RBI Baseball are two of my great loves in life,  I have to think that RBI Baseball and fantasy sports combined has got to be real good.

Basically, we just have a draft of all the players in RBI, use an editor to put the teams together, and pit the teams against each other in Watch Mode.

Rosters are set up like those in RBI - you have to have 2 SP and 2 RP, and you can set your batting order however you'd like, as long as the starting lineup has 3 OF, 4 IF, and 1 C.  Bench players are assigned a fielding position for fantasy purposes - Ellis Burks can start, but only at an outfield spot.

there have been a few other types of fantasy leagues on here, but probably none as popular as fightonusc's league.

stock did a league where people drafted teams and he played straightpitch against himself or the computer.

ultimate7 completed a league that bastardo started where people drafted teams from nes and arcade rbi.  the games were done in watch mode like fighton's.

strategizing for teams that are played in watch mode is a different technique than if you had human players controlling the action.  i can't give away any secrets, but for some reason doc gooden has been a world champion two years in a row.

This all sounds quite intriguing indeed...for the next one let me know, I want in if there is room.  I really need to figure out how to do that stuff on my PC.  On a sidenote, have any of you ever kept stats of seasons you play?  This is not something I have admitted to very many people, but I have loads and loads of data on my PC from keeping track of stats with every team, playing against the computer.  I quit keeping track of pitcher stats a long time ago, but of hitting stats I've got loads of it.  One my more nerdy hobbies.  I've been trying to figure out a way to get a website up where I could post my stats, but no luck so far, I'm not too bright with that stuff.

I don't know if any of you have done that, if you do, I'd be interested to hear about it.  I know that for me, there are certain magic numbers I always try to hit (or exceed) during a nine game season.  For individual players, the numbers are batting average of .800, 9 HR, 30 RBI, and 2.000 Slugging percentage.  I've yet to have a player accomplish all four of those in one season.  The 30 RBI's, in particular, is extremely difficult, I think I should maybe bring the number down to 25.  And if you want to reach that, the team has to almost not play too well, to give that player enough at bats to reach 30.  Anyways, I'm glad I got this out in the open, me and a buddy started keeping stats when we were about 8 years old, now we're 24, and we're still going strong.  We quit when we were like 12 years old, and then a couple years ago when reunited at college as roommates...we were back in business, now we're both married and live 1,000 miles apart, but we're always emailing eachother updated stat info...it's pretty sweet.

Just let me know if any of you have done this.

Just to rub it into mclane, when we play, I'm going to let the cat pick our lineup...then you'll not only lose to the OC, it'll be the OC run by a kitten
