Title: 12-16 Tourney results thread.
Post by: TbT on 12/16/06, 10:05:33 AM
Since that nommmaaaa character decided to fill the other thread with a bunch of Tecmo and brackets drivel, i felt a fresh thread was in order.   ;D

TBT-NY & HOU
Nate Nate Nate-SF & CAL
Chad- AL & MIN
Brian-DET & STL
Jeff- BOS & NL

1st round match-ups are.....
AL vs SF
DET vs NL

and.....
CAL vs NY
MIN vs BOS

we should start here with in the hour.  i dont play in the 1st 2 games so i should be able to drop some early results on those series.  If i dont play in the loser's 1 game play off to face HOU and STL i can add more updates throught the 1st couple hours.

Im not playing of yet...TBT has NY & HOU...Nate Nate Nate has SF & CAL.

DET just beat NL 6-5......Al leads SF 3-0 in the top of the 7th in the possible deciding game 2.  Nate is in a hole and needs to rally.

SF gets killed 10-1 and loses to AL 2-0 in the series.  DET leads NL 1-0 in the 4th in the other match-up.

overall series results
AL over SF(nate) 2-0
DET over NL 2-0

NY(TBT) over CAL(NATE) 2-0
MIN leads over BOS 1 game to 0.  BOS lead 3-2 in the 4th of game 2.

SF faces NL in 1 game elimination to face HOU
CAL faces the loser of MIN/BOS in 1 game elimination to face STL.

i had a dilema to deal with in the NY/CAL series.  I took a 5-0 lead early and had started orosco.  i brought in gooden then...but then i thought about it and had wished i brought in ojeda instead.  i was pretty sure i wasnt going to lose the game with ojeda in, and that would have left gooden for game 2 and a possible close out.  but i that would have left ojeda for game 3 and i was a little leary of that.

either way, i got it done in game 2.

as i typed this MIN just came back on BOS in game 2 and leads 5-3 in the 8th inning.  BOS bats 2 more times.

Boggs goes walk off in the bottom of the 9th beat MIN 8-6.  Both hurst and Viola went 7 innings in the game.  Game 3 is just starting.

MIN is killing BOS in game 3 6-1 in the 8th inning..this one is prolly over.

EDIT...MIN takes out BOS 2-1.

I must say that hearing simultaneously the music from 2 different games of RBi being played isa bit much.

round 2 games are under way along with 1 of the 1 game play ins to face HOU/STL.

In sitting out for about an 45 minutes it looks like as i wait for my next opponent.

1 game play in to face HOU.....SF(NATE) beats NL 1-0.

now CAL(NATE) faces BOS in a 1 game setting with the winner to face STL.

AM beat DET 8-6 in game 1 of round 2.

im kidding bro..i was just as responsible for just as many Tecmo and bracket reponses.
crimany, a ton of games here recently.  to recap the 2nd round.

HOU(TBT) and SF(NATE) are about to face off.

other round 2 results.
AL beat DET 2 games to 0 to advance to face the winner of SF/HOU

in the bottom half.......
NY(TBT) snuck by MIN 2-1
and CAL(nate) beat STL 2-0

in the coinciding losers bracket.

DET will play HOU if they lose..if SF loses, then they are elimnated due to them getting back into the winner bracket with the 1 game win over NL.

and MIN/STL are about to start off.

ok, the 4 teams in the winner bracket semi finals.

SF(Nate) vs AL
NY(TBT) vs CAL(nate)

the losers bracket
has DET to play HOU(TBT)
and MIn just beat STL

Nate has gone on a tear since facing elimination.  He used SF to beat me with HOU 1-0 then 3-2.  crazy battles for sure.

Were set to do the NY/CAL series right now.

we're getting down to the nitty gritty.  still best of 3.
Jeff and Brian have been eliminated.....

heres what left in the winners bracket.
SF(NATE) vs AL(CHAD)
with the winner facing CAL(nate)

as for the loser bracket which is still a 1 game elimination......
HOU(TBT) beat DET 2-1, thanks to a throwing error in the bottom of the 10th.  HOU will get a bye if SF loses, and if AL loses will face them.

in the other side of the losers bracket, MIN(Chad) will face NY(TBT).  i won a best of 3 series earlier in this match-up to send MIN to the losers bracket.

At the moment, there is no score in the SF/AL game in the bottom of the 4th.

Nate has gone on a tear of late.  he started cold and lost his way into the 1 game play elimination/play in vs HOU and STL, then has gone nuts.  However he cant afford to lose another series with either of his teams.  SF/CAL.

In the winners bracket AL beat SF again 2 games to 0.  Sf was elimianted  This sets up the last 2 teams from the winners bracket as CAL(Nate) vs AL(Chad)...NY is the last team from the losers bracket left as we've reached the final 3.

In the losers bracket.
HOU recieved a bye thanks to the Sf loss.  In the 1 game elimination between NY(TBT) and MIN, Dykstra hit a 3 run homer in the 7th for the 3-0 win.  NY(TBT) then beat HOU(nate) 2 games to 0.  Since they were both my teams, Nate then took HOU.

Cal and Ny cant lose another series.  if CAL loses to AL, then Ny automatically advances to the championship rpund vs AL.  that will be a best of 5 series, and Ny would have to beat AL twice.

AL defeats CAL 2 games to 0.  Nate and Cal are eliminated.

meaning that I play chad in the finals.  I have NY, he has AL.  I have to win back to back best of 5 series to win the championship.  thats a tall order.

we'l start here in a few minutes.

I hit a mazzili granny late in game 1 to win 7-4.  in game 2, Mcgwire hits a homer in the top of thr 10th to win game 2,  2-1.

i manage to win game 3 1-0 thanks to a dykstra single, stolen base and wilson single.  i am 1 win away from forceing a 2nd best of 5 for the championship.  i lead this series 2-1.

i manage to blow out CHAD and AL 7-2 in the deciding game of the series.  i win 3-1 and now play once more for the right to earn the championship.

best of 5 once again with Ny the road team this time out.  damn im beat, this has beena  crazy day of RBI.

AL wins game 1  3-1.  Tough defeat to take there, as i was unable to come back late.

a couple hernandez bombs ties the series at a game a piece as Ny wins 6-4.

lost game 3, 2-1.  tough loss to take.  if there is a hell, it is most defiantely endless hours of AL vs NY in RBI.

game 4...i toss a no hitter and prevail 2-0.  1 final game between chad and i to decide this thing.

fuck i get killed in game 5 and lose 5-1. i surrender 5 solo shots.  3 homers in a row to bell, canseco, andripken.  just demoralizing.  we played 9 straight NY/AL games.  i now hate those teams.

a runner up is me.

whew.  just got home from this fiasco.  just learned that i lost every game that Gooden was used in during the last 5 game series.  that bites.

we clocked in at right around 11 hours of RBI.  i count 41 games played.

the stats..below has the overall record, and the record of how many series they won/lost, along with the 1 game eliminations they played in.

AL(Chad)  12-5...5-1 in series play
NY(TBT) 11-7......4-2 in series play and 1-0 in 1 game eliminations
CAL(Nate) 6-5....2-2 in series play and 1-0 in 1 game eliminations
HOU(TBT) 1-4.....0-2 in series play and 1-0 in 1 game elimianations * 2 losses by Nate when NY and HOu met in loser bracket.
MIN(chad) 4-4....1-1 ins eries play and 1-1 in1 game elimiantions
SF(Nate) 4-4....1-2 in series play and 1-0 in 1 game eliminations
DET(Brian) 2-3....1-1 in series play and 0-1 in 1 game eliminations
STL (Brian) 0-3...0-1 in series play and 0-1 in 1 game eliminations
Bos(Jeff) 1-3.....0-1 in series play and 0-1 in 1 game eliminations
NL(Jeff) 0-3.......0-1 in series play and 0-1 in 1 game eliminations

overall records by players.
Chad 16-9
TBT 12-9....teams went 12-11
Nate 10-11...teams went 10-9
Brian 2-6
Jeff 1-6

im exhausted at the moment.  i did my best with NY, but trying to win 6 games out of a possible 10 vs the AL with a decent opponent proved to be just a little too much for me.

Theres talk we do this again late february, or early march.  overall things went fairly smoothly.  However having jeff lose out as fast as possible created a few problems with geting the right match-ups with4 guys and 2 TV's to play non stop and have all participants playing.  some had to wait for a game or series to be resolved before it was thier turn again which slowed things down.

Tough break TBT, but there is only room for one at the top. Do better next time and make us proud dammit.
AL has a tough lineup, but nothing of the superfreak nature.

this is still biting my ass that i didnt win this tourney.  oh well.  having HOU in the top half that AL came out of hurt my chances.

I didnt get a shot at them early on in which i mighta been able to knock em out to the losers bracket.  nate could not do shit vs them(AL) in 3 series with SF and CAL.  After i took NY from the losers bracket into the championship round and won the 1st series 3-1 i thought i might have the AL figured out.  but NY is so damn tought to score runs with.  Its a game long process of manufacturing runs.  Chad had a good strategy though as he went after a lot of the Ny hitters since they have low power numbers. made the whole taking pitches game a moot point, cuase i was continually taking strikes, and not realy helping my cause of trying to wear out his pitchers.

considering what i did with NY if i had a 2nd team other than HOU i believe that i could have taken this tourney.  i need to get me that same teams cart that i forgot about and then we can do away with HOU/STL in these tourneys.

this tourney was one hell of day.  completely rigorous and grueling.  9 straight NY vs AL games to decide the tourney made me want to claw out my eyes and stab my testicles with an ice pick.
