Title: making a rom
Post by: nomaaa on 12/17/06, 11:38:56 AM
if i wanted to make a rom consisting of current players, where would i look for good player values?

This is what I did as a starting point.

I took the Actual RBI Contact/Power values and ran two separate scatter plots against their actual avg/HR from the original ROM.
Then I just ran a linear regression line through it to get a formula.
You can then plug in the current players' actual HR/avg. numbers to get an equivelent value.
You may then want to slide the rule based on NES original actual hr/avg values vs the players you select for current (ie.. higher averages and home runs now, would make for much more powerful line-ups if you didn't normalize it somehow).

Then I went in and did manual adjustments as I saw fit.

I found that this works pretty well.

For speed values and Pitcher attributes, you can use the attributes for any of the new X-box or Playstation games to get decent values.

The linear regression line where x = batting average * 1000:
Contact = -0.2341x + 86.317 (for values b/w .193 and .370 among non-pitchers).
The average BA in the game is .281.  R2 = .87.

The linear regression line where x = home runs:
Power = 4.1402x + 756.3 (for values b/w 0 and 49 among non-pitchers).
The average # of HRs in the game is 15.6.  R2 = .66.

DeJesus and Brown without a doubt must be starters.  Take your pick between Gathright and Sanders though.  I'd probably go with Sanders since he's a veteran.  Put Gathright as a bench spot.
