Title: Ozzie Smith
Post by: Logan on 12/30/06, 12:55:52 PM
Last night a friend hit a legitimate dinger with Ozzie Smith, not a wallzie.  I hadn't ever seen this in all my years of RBI.

How common is it to go yard with the O Smith?

I've seen it many times not super common, but if you play enough games with STL (esp 1 SP) you will see it.

I have never played 1 SP that I can recall.  And I have 6 Ozzie Smith legitimate homers.  And a Wallzie.

OF course.  I am the best.  When it isn't extra innings.

He hit 4 home runs in 171 ABs in my str8 pitch fantasy league last year.
That is about 2.3% of the time.  However, that number may be understated since there are times that I was not trying to hit a home run with him.

Coleman hit one off me the other night.  I felt like I'd been raped.

I think the only (non-pitcher) player I've never seen hit a home run is Santana, and that's only because I have literally not let him see an at bat for several years.  Maybe Backman too for the same reason.  Barrett and Owen have done it once or twice when my whim gave them the chance, and even Vince and Oz do it now and then (usually off me rather than for me).

Which does beg the bigger question...

Has anyone ever seen Santana hit a homer?  Ever?  Like, even in a fantasy league?  Seriously.  Man, eff Santana.

I certainly have not.  And he's seen his fair share of at bats for us.  Often when he's up for the first time in our ATG games, the pitcher will offer a straight "A ball" right over the heart of the plate to Santana if he stays in.

This offer is often tempting and sometimes accepted...but he's yet to hit a homer for us.  In fact, in these situations his BA is probably .100 or so...  :(  He just sucks.

I personally have never hit a home run with Santana OR Backman.
However, combined, I have only seen about 10-20 ABs from them in my life.
I have even hit several with pedriq.

That being said.  I HAVE hit a home run with a pitcher.

I have never seen a Santana homer either, definitely rarer than Ozzie Smith...

I usually use Backman and he has gone deep for me a few times. He can go in a dry spell, but I like him in there.

Coleman has gone deep over the walzie for me a few times in the right-center gap.

Santana has as many at bats and homeruns as Uribe......0. They never play for me and I have never seen anyone use them.

I've hit several with Ozzie and Vince. I'm going to say that I've hit more than 10 (each) with them the last few years.

I've never seen Santana go  yard, but I will make the effort from now on. Not that I play much RBI since my move to the twin cities.

He did, though it was in a pinch-hit role.

I doubt it's been done in his standard 8 hole with the Mets.

Yeah, perhaps with the +64 power boost he can go deep, but I'm saying without it--he cannot.

Without looking it up, he's gotta have the same or better power #'s than a pitcher, and they can go yard...

So nobody has ever seen a Santana homer on a non-emulated version of RBI?

Yes, Santana has 68 more power points than a pitcher (9 less than backman).
So he is a little more powerful than a pitcher with a pinch hit bonus.

I don't doubt at all that I could not hit a home run with him.  I think it is just that fact that I never EVER use him.

Agreed, I've never seen a Santana homer because I've never seen Santana bat.
