If you want to keep up on the latest Canseco news you need to check out this hi-larious site:

The photo gallery may be the funniest thing ever.  Just for my own personal amusement and to help carry on the torch of RBI, I really hope he wins a job on the Dodgers.

If any dee nee members live in the Florida area they should attend the open tryout and give us a first hand account of Mr Jose.

That picture can't be Jose. Why the mustache?
He's got to get back to using gear so he can be the cleanup guy for the Dodgers.

Why did seddrah post a picture of A.C. Slater?

Why the Hell does ESPN have Canseco's head shot with an Expos hat, he never played for Montreal?

It was from the college years. I think I saw Bob Golic in the background.

If I recall correctly, he was briefly signed by the Expos a year or two ago.  I don't believe he ever ended up playing; I think they decided he wasn't going to be worth the hassle before he got onto the field.

Why is Jose trying out for an NL team?  The only place I would stick Canseco is at DH, meaning the AL would be a better fit.  Perhaps this was the only club to give him a shot...

I mean he was a terrible fielder 15 years ago, I don't want to see him out there now....

The guys that go to these tryouts don't get put on big league rosters.  I wonder if this is a sign that he will be willing to go through an extended minor league stint a la Ricky, and hope to get signed later in the season.

The real story about Montreal is that Jose basically had a roster spot sewn up, BUT he was too stubborn to accept a platoon role--he needed (and still needs) to hit those elusive 38 homeruns to get to #500.  He insisted that he couldn't be productive playing part-time, and hoped that Montreal would agree to let him start every day.  Instead, Montreal said "fine. good bye."  This all happened in spring training.

I remember distinctly an interview with Jim Rome around that time where Jose boasted that he was going to "surprise some people with his glove" [!!] and if given a season of at bats could easily "go 50/50." [!!!].  This is all true, it can be looked up.

I personally think that he KNEW how bad of a fielder he is and did not want to embarass himself.  The attention around him being dropped from Montreal might have sparked some interest from an AL club, so he hoped. And then he could play the only position that he's really ever been able to: DH.

This time around, however, I think he is willing to take anything he can get.

Looks like this is over, Dodgers got rid of him and he doesn't want to play in the minors.
