Oh it was about an hour I guess.  I never kept track of the time.  I know some of those stats are already posted somewhere on the site too.  I'm deciding whether to do pitchers now, I sure as hell ain't doing it tonight.  And lots of those players have had great games like that, after the dates listed, but I don't have many Donruss cards after 1992 so I can't list 'em..

Jose Canseco – 0 FOR 3, 1 HBP, and caught stealing in his lone game as a member of the San Diego Surfdawgs.

I went to a Jays game where Canseco with 0-4 with 4 K's.  A fan also called him a "stupid WOP".

Shit, after reading this I realized I forgot to mention that his 0 for 3 consisted of 3 K's.

I don't think he made contact until his third AB.

On the Fourth of July, 1983, Rags threw a 4-0 no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox.

In 1985, Dr. K  won his league's pitching Triple Crown, led the entire major leagues in wins (24-4) strikeouts (268) and ERA (1.53).  He led the National League in complete games (16) and innings pitched (276 2/3). He became one of only 12 African-American pitchers to win 20 games and became the youngest-ever recipient of the Cy Young Award. All at the age of 20.

Found a good old one for Trammell, and he was just 20:

5 Hits on 7/7/78 vs. Rangers

I also found a few RBI'ers who hit a homer in their 1st official MLB at-bats:

Gary Gaetti  on 9/20/81 (47th player to do it)

Will Clark in 1986 (also on 1st ever swing)

Tim Laudner hit one in his first game, but wasn't in his 1st at bat.

These are RBI 2 and 3 guys but I'll list 'em anyway:

Tim Wallach on 9/6/80
Terry Steinbach on 9/12/86 (54th overall to do it)
Ricky Jordan on 7/17/88 (31st in NL history)
Junior Felix on 5/4/89 (60th overall to do it)

I was also looking at the back of Wade Boggs' 1990 Donruss card.  In 8 years played, and 1,183 games he had 1,597 Hits, and a career .352 Average, which was 3rd best alltime at that time.  Had he just played two more seasons, that'd have been 10 years and he could have retired and made the HOF with the 3rd best AVG ever.  Still,  .328 and 3,000+ hits aren't bad either though.

I watched Julio beat the giants last year on a base hit, that was bitter sweet.

I'd just appreciate it if his manager would give him 250-300 at bats this year, just to see the results, the guy can still run and hit.

Pat Sheridan
Jay Bell

Mike Fitzgerald
Will Clark
Junior Felix
Ricky Jordan
Gary Gaetti
Tim Wallach
Mike Greenwell (it was a 2-run 13th inning gw-homer, then he hit another game winner the very next night, plus his 3rd MLB Hit was also a homerun).  Interesting stuff.

I'm guessing Stinky Sullivan's will be something like

1/3 2B, K, 2 rbi

I'm not sure about Sullivan.....I don't have any of his Donruss cards, just an '87 Topps I guess.  These things have to be online somewhere too, I never thought of that.

This seems like it should go in the RBI Database (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) somewhere.

"Junior Felix" is a name I haven't thought of in many a year.

I know this has been mentioned somewhere but Kevin Mitchell gave one of the greatest managerial performances by an RBIer when he punched out his own owner as the skipper of the Sonoma County Crushers.

Heh,

I found another player who hit a HR in their first AB, but it's not an RBI'er, but it was Jose Offerman.

I'm gonna send in a question to Baseball Digest online and ask them if they could list all players who hit a homer their first at-bat.

I already had one question printed out in the magazine, the one from a few years ago with Scott Rolen on the cover, I forget the month/year, but I'm guessing it's 2004.

I also remember a great game by Cal Ripken, from either 1998 or 1999 (probably the season where he hit .340), he had 6 Hits in the game, and every other Oriole had at least one, with Brady Anderson finally getting his first hit in the game, going 1-5 or 1-6 I believe.
