Title: Fantasy RBI (Actual Fantasy style)
Post by: ultimate7 on 03/28/07, 01:00:27 PM
After USC finished this season, I had an idea to do a normal NES season, but also to have a fantasy set up.  Just like in actual fantasy baseball you would have players from all the teams and all you would be concerned with are individual stats.

I would do some sort of simple point system like below not final

1 point per TB, Run, and RBI (and Walks)
maybe -1 per out, additional -1 per K

For pitchers 3 points per IP
1 point per K, 3 per win 2 per save
-1 per run, -2 per loss

Would there be 10 people interested in doing this?

What is wrong with another American League Fantasy season? I'd prefer that.

Or standard 5X5 categories so you would have to pick some speedsters and guys who can throw K's and shit.

No matter how you run it, I'm sure I'll be willing to participate.

I was planning to do it in aggregate as opposed to head to head, since I could easily add that on to a regular season without a lot more work, I would certainly add SBs scoring.  I honestly have no idea what the 5x5 categories are.

I definitely agree with that idea, although the computer steals with so few players that it might be too easy to corner that market.  Pitching strikeouts would be almost a complete crapshoot, but I agree that it'd be cool to have.

I'm in if there's room in the league.

I'm in, though it is worth considering that SBs are not in abundance as in real life, so this would be a difficult category since so many teams will have between 0 and 3.

Runs, HRs, RBI, SB, BA
W, K, SV, ERA, WHIP

It would have to be like a roto league where stats accumulate through the season and not head to head matchups.

Also would you override the 10 run mercy rule so everybody played the same amount of innings?

Also also, would you keep the standard lineups and have normal watch games so you would have a couple of guys playing in each game?  I like that idea.

I'd leave the 10 run rule, so that's up to chance, you could get screwed

But yes it will be regular ROM with regular lineups

Any thoughts on rosters?  Full teams, or just starters?  Can we have any number of starters and relievers?  I don't know how that works in "real" fantasy baseball.

I would say each player has 3 OF and 1 at each position (all regular starters)

Then you get 1 #1 Bench guy, 1 #2 Bench guy 1 #3, 1 #4

Plus 1 #1 pitcher, 1 #2, 1, #3, and 1 #4

How do the 5x5 work in a roto league?  It's my understanding that in head to head if you win 6 of the 10 catergories you get a win for the week, right?  But how does it work roto style?  How do you decide who does the best?

I think you just total everything up throughout the season and rank everyone 1-10 in each category.  10 points for first, 9 for second, etc. in each category; highest total points wins.  If there's a tie for a spot, you split the points for the places they hold together, so you always end up with the same number of points - if two guys tie for third, they each get 7.5, or if three guys tie for fourth, they each get 6.

Note that I have never actually played in a roto league, so this is my recollection from reading Fantasyland.

Fot the bench players, the #3 and #4 guys rarely get in the game so there's not much point in drafting them.  Might be more interesting to just draft one bench player (or two at most).

I like your idea of drafting individual infield positions rather than just 4 generic IF positions.

I just like it from the standpoint of havig every player in the league assigned to someone, it will probably be easier for me to do that then to exclude just 20 or 30 players

I would definitly be in.

Personally, I lean more towards H2H as that's the style of fantasy that I'm more used to, but would be fine with any setup.

I would advocate not using SB's or SV's though, as there are so few of these that it would either A) be cornered by a few players (in the case of stolen bases) or B) be such a total crapshoot that luck wins over actual skill in identifying/drafting players (in the case of saves).

Didn't GDavis have this idea a few years back?

I'm in.

He actually was the brainchild behind the current Fantasy RBI league where you can draft your own players and play them against other teams.

It is now season IV, and his idea has to be the best thing ever. The league and his brilliant idea has evolved since season I. GDavis is a fuckin genius.
