Title: Official Columbus Play-In Tourney Thread
Post by: Baines on 05/19/07, 12:53:54 AM
I'll start this thread to check out interest in a satellite tournamment for a spot in the columbus tournament next month with 4 players at $25 apiece.

I'm assuming this is cool with Joe Dirt since there are plenty of spots left and this would fill one, otherwise I'll just lock this thread down.

Anyway, I know I'm good for one spot in the satellite tourney and probably a friend or two from home, most of whom will show up that weekend anyway.  But I thought any other dee-nee'ers who planned on coming (malnu/GoReds/Gantry) might be interested at a lower price with lesser competition.

PLAYERS:
1. Baines (arrival Friday A.M.)
2. Malnu (arrival Thursday 6:30 p.m.)
3. SalBando (lives there)
4. Gerlost (arrival Friday 8:55 a.m.)

TIME:
As early as possible Friday (will update)

FORMAT:
Double elimination

back in the day, the Satcom F4 satellite was the one with American XXXstasy.   It was high quality, high grain porn.

I'm in, and to quote my hero Lips;

"YOUR GOING DOWN IN A MONTH!"

Changed the thread title to make it more descriptive and bump it to the top. For those attendees who aren't willing to drop 100 on the tourney, this is a fkn quality opportunity to participate and also fill some spots.

Like I said in chat, I'll play if I go, but at this point it's a long shot

Why is it a long shot?  You should definitely get out here!

One more confirmed.  My cousin, who about 5 total posts on here under the name SalBando, is in.

I had figured as much, as my most consistent RBI partner over the last 20 years who also just happens to live in Columbus anyway, but I wanted to wait until I talked to him today to make sure.

Awesome.  We now have our four.

Ideally, I'd like to get this underway as early as possible Friday, preferrably before heading to the baseball game. I'll search for arrival times and I'll call my cousin to see when we can get this thing going.

As for format, I'm thinking double elimination just like the big tourney.  It would basically work like a college baseball regional.  Whether our matchups are single games or series is basicaclly up to time constraints and everybody's preferance.

First post updated with details.

We have a dilemma on our hands...

I just called SalBando to see when we can get this thing started on Friday.  Problem is, he's free all day for the play-in, but now has to work until 5 on Saturday, meaning that he couldn't play in the main event if he won.

If worst comes to worst, he's willing to go ahead and play so things don't get screwed up, and then figure something out if he wins, but he'd prefer that somebody else take his spot.

PMs have been sent and messages left with some of the local guys so hopefully we can work this thing out.

we are counting on someone from the satellite representing.  plus whos to say he'll win the thing anyways

The satellite will be played Friday and have a representative no matter what.

We're just looking for a possible replacement who can be there for the whole thing.  It would just make things run smoother and eliminate the need to have somebody drop $25 on a tournament where they can't advance if they win.

Apparently no takers on SalBando's spot so it's on as originally planned begininning at 11-12ish tomorrow morning.

Something that just occurred to me is that we'll need a NES at the hotel at that time (I can bring an RBI cart).  It seems like TBT was bringing an NES, hopefully someone can confirm this for me.

the nes is already hooked up and working

So far:

Baines over malnu in one first round series:
Ca 2
SF  0

NY  5
Bo  6   14 innings

Second game was a fkn marathon.  Baines takes an early 4-0 lead on a bunch of solo bombs.  Malnu goes up 5=-4 in the 8th when baines struggles with Bruce hurst.  It was a battle of attrition until Baines got a walk off with Rice in the 14th off McDowell.

Gantry was the winner here, moving onto the big tourney, with Baines pulling the biggest collapse since OSU basketball and football COMBINED.

Can someone please give details of the Gantry/Baines game now?

Baines was three sheets to the wind when I got the NL poker chip against Baines' St. Louis.  Though clearly drunk beyond belief, Baines was still pitching like a champ and took an early lead with a dinger by Vince fkn Coleman.

We go to the 11th inning and single sack Kruk is at the plate.  Bloop single that turns into an inside the park homer to cost Baines the tourney.

Gantry making it to Day Two is the most impressive thing since Lips pulled off the feat in '05!
