TBT here......
heres the win loss records so far in round robbin.
TBT 1-4
goreds 0-2
briznok 2-1
gantry 1-1
riley 4-1
octo 1-1
attezobal 1-4
ronnie kruger 3-1
broiler 0-4
cordiano 0-0
mark bridges 7-0
sorry mclane...i got nothing today. already lost to mark bridges and ronnie. those guys games are sick. ive snowballed to hell from there. then dropped 2 games in the STL vs HOU flavor.
Why the fuck hasn't Dirty Joe played yet? And who are Bridges and Kruger? RBI nightmares or what?
broiler, sack up.
Bridges and Kruger are outsiders who are damn tough...
I'm 2-2 now after beating a clearly frustrated TBT and getting waxed by Broiler. Octo and I are up shortly...
Apparently a news team is coming by in a few minutes to cover the tourney, I'm on shit #3 of the day as we speak...
Genessee Cream Ale = heaven
Octo lost a 2-1 heartbreaker in 14 innings to Kruger, Houston vs Stl. Kruger loaded the bases and Ozzie Smith popped up to second. Octo went with the perfect legal in this tourney "let it drop double play" but because he never does it messed up the execution and the runner from third scored. Game of the day so far...
I'm now 4-2 with a clutch 1-0 win over a tough Ronnie from Kentucky. I gotta get my ass handed to me by Riley and JoeDirt (who STILL hasn't shown up yet) but for now I have hopes of making the final four...
A drunken GoReds and Atezz are locked into a legendary game right now, capped off by a dinger by Tommy Herr that got cheers and socials all around...
i beat goreds and briznock back to back. other than that i am sucking it
Riley kicked my ass and JoeDirt FINALLY showed up. Broiler, being the fanastic human that he is, beat Ronnie from Kentucky. So if JoeDirt beats Ronnie, I'm in the final four tomorrow...
Day One Final Results:
Dirt.....................10-1 (seed 1)
Riley...................9-2 (seed 2)
Bridges.............. 9-2 (seed 3)
Gantry................7-4 (seed 4)
-----
Kruger.................6-5 (5th place)
Octo.....................5-6 (6th place by tie breaker)
Briznock...............5-6 (7th place by tie breaker)
TBT.......................5-6 (8th place by tie breaker)
broiler..................4-7 (9th place)
GoReds................3-8 (10th place by tie breaker)
Attez....................3-8 (11th place)
Dorian..................0-11 (12th place)
what the eff, broiler??
go dirt and natty gann!!
Did I mention....
TWO home runs by Steve Lake on the weekend. One against me, then later, one BY me.
YES!!!
Nice work Gantry, no idea how you beat the ATG players to move into the top 4.

lemon party T-shirt
Has Gantry been playing with a pillow on his lap, the entire time?

I am also extremely impressed by this.
Hes a ringer.
I think I prefer this new way of picking teams, was the round robin single games or best of 3?
so when do we find out who won?
I hate me
I couldnt have played any worse.
I dont think tournament RBI is really something I enjoy. too much pressure, after I lost to Riley in my first game. (And a game I really thought I could have won) my head got all screwed up and I was really hung over. I really didnt start enjoying playing games until I started to get drunk, culminating with Attez and I playing the game of the weekend and capturing everyone else's attention with the eventual called Tommy Herr homer. Afterwards Gantry ten run ruled me and joedirt beat me 14-0. But Mike Witt did go complete game against dirt.

You'll do it next year,
JoeDirt Jim Kelly.
Okay, here's the day two breakdown.
Seed 2 Riley and Seed 3 Bridges played until 1:30 AM last night...I was gone already, but apparently it was quite the series that could have gone either way. In the end, Bridges won in the final game of the series to advance to the championship.
Seed 1 Dirt and Seed 4 Gantry kicked off early Sun morning. The fact that Gantry was in the final four is a major accomplishment in itself. I did not have much trouble advancing past Gantry, but the level of respect that I have for his game is at an all-time high.
Championship Game: Dirt vs. Bridges. At this point in the tourney, my record was 13-1. I outscored my Sat opponents 45-9 (including Bridges 11-4) and was feeling really good about things. However, this is when my tourney went to hell. I couldn't see so good, I tell ya! I just couldn't hit...it wasn't nerves or anything like that...I always say that this game is a game of streaks, and my hot streak ended and turned into ice without a moment's notice.
So perhaps I am Jim Kelly, but I prefer to think of myself as Phil Michelson before he won one (we're both lefties, after all)...but I guess I can take a little solace in knowing that Jim Kelly is in the HOF.
Bridges won in 5.
I suck and I hate me!
PS...two things that really impressed me this weekend: 1) Gantry's over all performance (as already discussed), and the fact that my only loss in my 1st 14 games was to my dear friend, TBT (Sl 1 Ho 0).
I really only want to talk about 12 things.....
1. Tim Teuful. His name in German apparently means Satan. His mother bad decision to not abort has ruined my RBI life. And I am throwing a party when he dies. TBT sounds thrilled with this idea and all are welcome to join us.
2a. New York is officially the worst team on the game, hands down.
2b. AL is the 4th best team on the game. I got perfect gamed and struck out 6 times I think. I know it wasn't in double digits... How the F do you make contact 18 times with AL and not score a run.... Just shameful I am curious to see where my ERA ranks in the round robin...
In my mind, the top known ATG players in the world (in no particular order):
Dirt
Riley
Beales
Foster
Silverblatt
McCormick (Rory)
Bridges
Although I do wish to stipulate that a few of the above names have played in only one tourney...not really enough to go on, but they did very well in it...
from what i can understand about the tourney and brackets, it doesn't seem very fair.
to me, more of a round robin type of tourney would get the guys into a better seeding situation. but maybe that takes too long, i don't know, i've never hosted a tourney.
WTF are you even saying?! Explain yourself, sir!
Also, day one was totally round robin...each player played every other player one time. The best 4 records from day 1 advanced to day 2 to participate in a 4 man bracket (5 game rd 1 series and 7 game rd 2 series).
so did you not end up using the lottery system i picked out of a hat?
No because they were for 8 and 9 man scenarios...we didn't know how many players we were ultimately going to end up with, so we had yours for 8 and 9, and the round robin 1x game vs. every other player format for 10+.
I really cant stress enough how badly I played and how much I think I was in my own head this weekend. Truly disappointing.
ok, in the end i trust your judgment as i was not there to officiate. when i pulled the names out of the hat the situation looked pretty bad from what i could tell. i'm glad you didn't use them.
Did the news article air yet? I believe it needs to be linked/posted whenever that happens.
I don't think the news crew ever showed up.
I DID NOT get beaten by JoeDirt this weekend.
I did hit a home run off of Gantry with JUribe (this was seriously called, albeit before the at bat, not on the very pitch like with Herr). This was also a game where Gantry and I pitched a reliever all game.
I did beat Octo, and only gave up 2 runs against AM with Roger Clemens going the full nine.
Like GoReds, I was in my head all day too, there was not a moment in any game where I expected that I would win, and I think that ultimately cost me, since I was attacking, I was more sitting around waiting for the collapse each game.
the real tourney was on Friday!
Bridges is good people, congradulations!
It was a great tourney, I had a blast. Dirt, Mark and Riley clearly outclassed me but I felt like I was holding my own. By the end of the day I couldn't keep up but I learned a fuckton about curve pitch and I'll be signed up forall future tourneys...
I hope it is not in poor taste to bring up actual RBI strategy in this thread, but one major trait that all of the great ATG players have is already possessed by Gantry--the ability to quickly read your opponent's tendencies and adjust accordingly. This applies to both pitching and hitting.
Patience and defense were my two best traits (the little 'incident' in game 1 against Dirt notwithstanding) this weekend. But when it came down to it, I didn't have pitching consistency to hang with the big boys...
PS - I hate Mike Aldrete more than any human being hates anyone...
Sounds like the tourney went well. Round robin is the best format to go with in those kinds of situations.
Congrats to bridges and that's fuckin odd that JoeDirt choked again. ha ha ha
I wish I could have been there to win it all against you meat heads who think you know ball and rbi.......my time will come, but for now, I got a real tourney to play in over in Portugal.
Great shit guys and sooner or later I will show up to one of these tourneys.
Briz and TBT, I am dissapointed in you fucks.
Gantry, you even surprised me with your impressive showing. Good job.
What were the payouts?
my apologies to Dee-Nee for my performance. i sucked hard all day long. I shouldnt have started with the 1st game of the day. with the fucked up TV situatiosn (again) and trying to co-ordinate all this, i shoulda taken an hour to get organization underway 1st. it was a cluster fuck cause we had some issue with the TV's not working again.
mark bridges was a maniac in game one. I was pretty much shaking and nervous all game and didnt get my head straight, and lost 3-0. Then Ronnie beat me 4-2 and i took a small break to get my shit together.
didnt pan out as i then dropped back to back HOU vs STL games.....i manned each team one. from there. i considered my self eliminated and then played better the rest of the way out.
I ran thru all my opponents except joe dirt, then i went and played some tecmo to relax. I did beat Joe dirt later that night 1-0 STL over HOU. for what its worth, that was my world series for the day. to stink it up in that game would have been more disappointing than anything.
JoeDirt needs to update his website... I was going to send a link to Deadspin and see if they want to publicize his status as the Jim Kelly of RBI Baseball Tournaments.
TBT, you're still a champion in my heart.
at lunchtime i smoked a doobie and won 3 of my last 4. should have thought of that earlier
My most nervous moment was when a REALLY drunk Attezz and myself went with a hardfought SF vs NYM game. Atezz announces during the pitcher selection that he's pitching Robinson the whole game. So I gave Gooden one pitch (a strike) and put in McDowell for the rest of the game. I needed 7 runs in the last two innings to win by one.
I was VERY tempted to take out McDowell in the 8th when I was down 5, but I stuck to my guns and rallied back. Had I lost that game I would have been in a one-game playoff with Ronnie for the semifinals. And considering how many beers I had consumed by the time we went to Larrys, that would have been terrible...
I think GoReds needs to talk about my slaughter against him, which at the time was the first one of the tournament. Big Bruce Hurst fan, that GoReds...
Ultimate - I think my payout for 4th was $120, which considering that I only ponied up $25 for the qualifier, I'll take it.
Bainesby - I don't think I got your $25 yet, might have to work out some paypal love for that.

With no disrespect to anyone, Bridges was the best pitcher that I've ever seen...
what technique/strategy does he use?

Piss off! I beat Bridges 11-4 in our round robin game! :)
I think Bridges is good...really good. I don't think he's better than me/Riley/Silverblatt/Beales/Foster, etc. At this level, it really comes down to two things, 1) who's hot and 2) who gets the breaks.
Bridges said that he got the breaks vs Riley, and he was pretty hot when we played in day 2.
But to answer your question, BH, he doesn't use any particular strategy. He doesn't cock or retreat or anything like that. He doesn't even know how to pull back a home run, but he's just a solid fundamental player.

I know. I'm at the point where I need to add a page to have 2007 results separated from 2005 results, but I don't know how to add a page...just edit the existing pages. :(

I guess I was asking mainly about pitching strategy
normal ATG style...hit the corners often, try not to fuck up...bust inside often even to keep it in the back of the batter's mind, but no more than that.
I greatly enjoyed Riley's Coked-Out-Quin-Snyder batting stance.
If Riley were ever in a band, it would be called The Wiggling Tettletons
Hey if you are counting the dorian luca forfiet, I won thrice. I beat ronnie, and attez also. I'm just saying.
Whatever, you only beat me by like 17.

it was a close 17. And I think Tommy Herr's homer counted for at least 15 runs. So we'll call it 2.
So then GoReds and Attez both finished 3-8, with GoReds "winning" 10th place due to h2h tie breaker? I'll adjust the standings...sorry GR. Site hasn't been updated yet, at least.
A WINNER IS ME!!!!!!!!!
well, you are and you aren't.
i almost never throw fastballs. perhaps i should start to integrate that into my game more. fast balls produce 3 things.....
1. moonshots out into the parking lots
2. weak dribblers/pop-ups for outs
3. foul balls
i hate this whole drawing board thing.
You have no idea.
Also, I'm not not updating the site because I'm still bitter (that is to say, my bitterness is not a factor in the lack of update to the site)...I PMed defen with the info per his request, but have yet to hear back...
Is Bridges = Mark? As in the Mark with a new, hot wife?
Matt, Mark, what?
No, Bridges does not equal Mark.
todd?
No, todd does not equal Mark.
Mark is Arkansas and Todd was Lousiville, no?
