Title: Bringing the leather day in & day out
Post by: Donnie Paradise on 03/22/04, 05:19:00 PM
We play All-Star games, anything goes. It seems some are better in the field then others. Benito Santiago definitely has a better arm behind the plate then his AL counterpart. And it seems there's nothing getting past Mike Schmidt down the line. Is this our imagination?

It is all imaginary, as we've seen zero evidence to support individual fielding abilities.  But I swear that Doug Decinces is the steadiest glove in the game.  So to each their own...

Just like pitchers at the plate - we have hard evidence that all pitchers have the same hitting abilites but I'm certain that Don Sutton and Danny Cox are the two best pitcher bats in the game...

While there is hard evidence, as Gantry mentioned, I am also convinced that some players have betters arms and fielding abilities.  I do think some pitchers are better hitters, as well.  Gantry is right on Cox and Mike Scott can rip the ball as well.

Donnie, you really need to sign in/register.

I don't think there is a difference in fielding ability but some players are faster than others which helps.  Thats about the only advantage one player would have over another another in the field.

Actually, in the field, all players run the same, too.  You can pretty much tell this by watching them move in unison.  RBI doesn't track which position each player plays, so there's no way it could have them all move separately.

Are they better than Fernando at the plate?  No way...

Curt Ford and Andre Dawson have cannons...2 of the better arms in the game, IMO.

See, that's what I always thought too until a couple weeks ago I was playing with spike_owen#1 and he overthrew third but I just left my runner there and didn't score.  The screen didn't reset with the ball still in play so he was just screwing around trying to get all the fielders in one spot.  When he did, he started moving them around in one big group but when moving them all the same direction, some started to pull away from the pack.  I never thought the game was even set up to reflect player attributes in the field but I can't think of any other way to expiain that.

I've noticed that too Baines, though I didn't experiement enough to figure out if certain players are faster or if it's a certain position always being faster...
