Title: Great '86 Mets site
Post by: Mets_bs on 03/22/04, 10:31:24 PM
Great site about the '86 Mets by a guy who's writing a book about them. Good read.

The Bad Guys Won (http://www.thebadguyswon.com/index.html)

My favorite excerpt:

Tim Teufel
Position: Second Baseman
Nicknames: Teuf, Richard Head
Born: July 7, 1958
From: Greenwich, Ct
1986 Statistics: .247 4 home runs, 31 RBIs
1986 Highlight: Hit the first grand slam of his career while pinch hitting in Mets' 8-4 win over Philadelphia on June 10 at Shea Stadium
1986 Ratings (1-5 stars):
Power:**
Speed: **
Average: **
Defense: **
Clubhouse Presence: ***
Leadership: *
Jeff Pearlman's take: Soft-spoken newcomer was overmatched by the Mets' venomous collection of bad-asses. Became the beating boy for many in-flight altercations, and finally lost his steam with Darryl Strawberry. A nice guy who deserved better.
What's He Up To: Manager, Class A St. Lucie of the Florida State League

interesting...I didn't realize Mitchell was also on that team (I knew he came up with the Mets and now that I think about it, his '87 tops card is in a Met uni)...

I wonder how many players overlap teams like that?  That'd be a great FAQ for Gantry.

You're right, that would be a nice tidbit...  Anyone know more?

Tonight:

"30 for 30: Doc & Darryl," (9 p.m., ESPN).

The Bad Guys Won was a great book, pick it up if you can.  Think I gave my copy to someone on these here forums.
